Antiques Roadshow was classier in those days. That young lady really impressed me 👍
Me too. She was genuinely interested and did not screech when the value was revealed.
She seemed to be there to learn, not to be seen on TV with a pricy antique.
Much respect to him for the knowledge of his profession.
He goes and looks it up on the internet before filming
There’s a lot of fire in that diamond. Gorgeous!
I like how interested she is, seems genuinely curious rather than waiting for whatever it might be worth. Also strange thing to say about a girl who is now a woman 21 years older than when this was filmed
Agreed - she does ask some great questions. In the video, she says that the ring belongs to her brother; it was passed down to him.
@@WoodlandDance That's why she didn't ask what it's worth!
He was so immersed in sharing his wealth of knowledge with her too. I was so impressed to watch their incredible interaction.
She’s a girl to most in that room!
I really like that cut, I wish they still did it. It seems more sparkly than the modern cut.
Yes they tend to flash, which is much more dramatic than the sort of overall bright "crushed ice" appearance of modern diamonds.
Ur right it's beautiful
@@brt5273- If your diamond looks like crushed ice, it’s not good. I sold diamonds for several years in a family business.
You can get old cuts from Jewels by Grace from the US, also from the US, Distinctive Gem have designed modern cushion and round diamonds cut to the old proportions but maximised to give the greatest sparkle.
@@mchapman1928 Absolutely right, crushed ice in a diamond generally indicates it's a pooper, especially in round cut diamonds. In some fancy shapes, crushed ice is permissible if you like that sort of thing and the stone performs.
The young lady asking good relevant questions really drew out the description given by the specialist. Great informative clip.
I like they go into detail, a lot of times people just want to know value right away
Beautiful ring!
110 years old? Maybe sold 110 years ago. What a beauty
Do you have difficulty reading titles.
Technically, 3,500,000,000 years old would be a more accurate description.
The setting, the platinum around the diamond is dated 1910. The said that Brazilian yellow diamonds dated further back
Or maybe it was bought 110 years ago! Who knows? Who cares!!
so a long time ❤❤❤❤
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Personally, I would pay anything for his hairstylist. This guy fascinates me.
The epitome of the chill, frosty reactions and minimal enthusiasm that Brits are known for. I know. I was born there and lived there, and regardless of age, wealth or "class", it's quite uniform. Brrrrrrr!
Yeah, we don’t whoop, air fist pump, or act like 12 year olds.
Low key, subtle, droll humour - love the stiff upper lip.
Better than pretending to be like that than try and be above anyone else
I miss those lovely De Beers commercials from the 1990s
A follow up story would be interesting for this one.
Yes, more than 20 years ago and so large that his little device cannot accurately measure it!
The young girl had some very intelligent questions. I wonder what the diamond is worth now, this program looks quite old.
Beautiful ring.
Wow what a beautiful ring 💍
Beautiful ring😊
The girl asked some good questions.
Stunning 🤩✨
I love the old times, when
people didn't pronounce any
sentence as it was a question.
What a beautifully cut diamond, gorgeous.
Looks like 30k it's a gorgeous diamond
Didn’t realise that Peter Cooke was such an expert
ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL RING
Antiques Road Show, by far, the BESt series ever created in my opinion. PBS or not!
It's a BBC show that is just broadcast by PBS in the states. British created, British made
@@stoneagepig3768 yes, love the show
Inquisitive young woman
$15,000?????? 5 carat rings average $135,000 what's happening here?
Its from 2003
Absolutely beautiful💖
Awesome 👍👍
Love antique
It’s a stunning Diamond Ring. The video ended before the value was said.
No it didn't, 12k
@@Mr-Mr66 My video cut the end off so the Appraisal was said. Thank you for letting me know.
It's not 110 years old. It's about 2 billion years old.
Of course the diamond is older that the ring😂😂😂😂.. its millions of years old man..😮😮😂😂
I think he just meant it had been adapted to be set in that ring. It had been mined and cut in Brasil in the early 19th century but only set in the this ring in 1910.
@@Knappa22 I know what he meant 🙄
@@Team-fabulous Ah ok, sorry. Not sure why you made out his meaning was different in your original comment!
I would have thrown that away thinking it was cheap costume jewelry.
The title really built this up, I was expecting £40/50k, set in Platinum too.
When was this filmed?? It looks old but the details on his nails when zoomed
In looks modern
Very beautiful but carries the weight in price ❤
Great admin!
It's over 4ct. I would say at least £20 000.
The 'cut' off the bottom of the stone makes it a 'mine cut'. Albeit, I don't agree with the estimate of the ring.
That's my colour. Anything deeper looks too saturated. Like the restoration of Wizard Of Oz. I didn't know she was that green.
Yeah, I've got the one with the hanging... well, it's not a Munchkin.
Ugh bummer, I hoped for her it would be much more than that! Still, quite a nice heirloom!
Instead of insulting the color he said it was just pleasant
How can I bring a piece of jewelry to this guy, I have a very old diamond ring
If there's one thing that the US AR does better is showing a then and now evaluation at the end.
That's about the only thing it does better, and even that is arguable
😍😍😍😍
While showing sooo many of these old episodes, you could at least put the corrected respectively todays value in the subscription!
i thought it was peter cooke. sounds like him
Worth five figures. Man says worth 12-15,000 pounds. Ya you need to update that title.
12k for a 5 carat yellow diamond….. did I hear that right
2003 that was shot... 20 years later prolly 40K
You sure did 😅
Back then, a British Pound was $3 usd. So actually $36k usd.
@malipena9751 The 12k is today's money ,that's what the ring is worth now. I'm sure.
@joycemckeown789 , this was recorded in 2003. So not today's money. $36k usd, in 2003. Would be like $75k in today's money, if we adjusted for inflation.
💕💕
re cut it would be a more brilliant stone and more valuable .
What's the name of cut?
Where’s Dudley Moor ?
As a jeweler for a long time in USA we do call it canary diamond… probably a British thing though ! exaggeration ?
The culet is extremely large on this stone, it stands out way too much.
12k that’s all? I thought 10x’s that. 5 karat?
That ring is only worth what people are willing to pay for it. No less, no more.
Nothing mentioned regarding worth, only faintly touching insurance value . Net in hand after auction can be 20-25% of insurance value

Heck sell it and use the $ 😂
You probably mean sell it and use the £. No dollars in UK.
Great. Now give us back the stolen rock
Didn’t know it was yours??
u can't stole from mother earth 😂
Guess i just dont have an eye for this stuff lol....if I had no idea i honestly wouldn't hand over 10 bucks for that ring lol. Its a rock.......worth nothing to me lol
Funny how people are attracted to meaningless and invaluable material items.
Little precision. Old cut diamonds will never shine like a brilliant modern cut one. Because it has no symetry and bad proportions. Also what makes the value of a diamond is his color. A yellow diamond will not be very sought after. Even f you want to recut it to get a perfect proportion modern diamond. It will still be yellow. The only advantage of this diamond is that its big. The price of a 4 carat modern cut extra white diamond would be huge in comparison.
Actually worth nothing but some idiot will pay a lot for something useless.
Maybe 6 figures not 5!
What a lie are you are all by that ring all day long for 14 $15 that’s a 4 carat yellow diamond SI hundred thousand
Hopefully they do not mine that planet they have just found out is made of diamond lol It would make them effectively worthless
--most diamonds are 'blood diamonds'.
no such thing as blood diamond, you are taking it from Earth, then when can we see blood everything since people klled for food too

Diamonds are a rip off, period.
Russia has the equivalent of housefuls of diamonds in storage...and an agreement with De Beers NOT to release them onto the market...
otherwise the only value would be for industrial use...
@@JohnSmith-pl2bk 🤣
@@JohnSmith-pl2bkI wonder if Putin will dip into that?
