This for me was the saddest thing I have ever seen so powerful and everlasting. I was brought up with the original series and it felt personal like losing a great friend
This was such a great part of the movie, Spock tells McCoy that he was considering leaving Starfleet and assuming Prime Spock's responsibility in helping his race rebuild. Saying that he wanted to live as he did, thinking that was the time his older counterpart felt was most important to him. But here he finds this photo and both he and the audience are shown that in the long and eventful life Spock lived, the best and most cherished years of it all was serving with his shipmates in Starfleet and so young Spock stays not only to fulfill what he said he wanted to do to honor old Spock's memory, but because his time with them is too something he cherishes.
I honestly teared up at this moment. Seeing the old cast on the bridge of the Enterprise-A on the big screen just...it was a perfect moment. And a beautiful way to honor Trek's 50th anniversary, making sure they were all there.
Makes sense the Kir, Shira is like a bible to a Vulcan. They live their lives by its teachings. The robes he wore on Romulus make sense as he wanted to remember all he had seen and done in his ultimate bid to unify both peoples Family photo is not unusual either. When I flew transport aircraft or tankers near air battles my photo always reminded me to come home whatever the cost. I always made it back
I didn't fully get the impact of this moment till my 3rd viewing. 1st was in theaters, when I watched after rewatching the 1st 2 films. Sad yes but I wasn't blubbering. Time 2, similar to the first but with anticipation for the moment. Time 3, I was at home after doing my 50 year marathon....going by release date. Seeing everything prime Spock had been through, all those years only to end up where he did, with only one memento. A picture of his crew, together again. And to have KT Spock look at it, probably recognizing his crew.....it's heartbreaking
When I looked at this scene, I presume KT Spock did recognize who's who in the photo, even though they're not the exact faces he's accustomed to seeing because thats a different universe. And it provided the hint that in his universe, Spock and the Enterprise crew will be together for many years to come...
@@MoniqueFromPlymouth possibly. The other way to look at it is the ambassador asked to meld with his younger self after Kahn incident to gain insight into the timeline changes.
bemasaberwyn55 | I doubt they both mind-melded off-screen... remember in their face-to-face encounter that Nimoy's Spock clearly stated he will not interfere and allow the alternate timeline and general history to play out. Yes, I know he gave KT Spock the "spoiler" that Khan eventually lost and the price was high, but Nimoy's Spock did not give away too much as Kahn was very difficult to beat in either universe.
@@MoniqueFromPlymouth true. If memory serves though, his reasoning was to keep the 5 year mission mostly in tact. I feel the incident with Kahn may have changed his mind(conjecture of course)
bemasaberwyn55 | Regardless, Nimoy's Spock did not live very long in the alternate timeline to assist this Enterprise crew... which is heartbreaking as you said in your first post. As a viewer, I was half-hoping that somehow, someway he could return to his real timeline - like he always did in his onscreen Trek adventures where he and Kirk time travels, but it was not to be this time. With Nimoy's death, that made it hopeless for Roddenberry's Spock, which for me is sad in thats how it ends for his character.
Right now I’m thinking of the trial in Star Trek 4. Spock joins the crew before the Federation President: “Captain Spock, you do not stand accused.” “I stand with my shipmates.”
It's poignant and reminder of the warmth and friendship the crew and real life cast. The original crew and cast grew old along with us. This new crew is still in their prime and yet to complete their 5 year mission. There isn't the same feeling of family.
Is it weird that I had a feeling it was going to be that exact photo? I had seen it years prior in a movie magazine, and the image stuck with me ever since. Glad to see that it made it into the movie!
It must've been strange for Spock seeing a photo of Spock Prime and his Enterprise shipmates on the bridge of the Enterprise-A from the alternate timeline.
It was a very sad day when I heard Leonard Nimoy had passed away. I grew up watching the original Star Trek series and Movies because my parents loved them and then I became a huge Start Trek TNG fan. I had the honor of meeting Leonard Nimoy at a book signing ages ago for his book I am Spock and he was the most gracious, humble, and sincerely genuine, and nicest celebrity I have ever met. I was a young girl no more than 16 or 17 years old geeking out over meeting Spock and he was just so nice it surprised me. He embraced the fact that he would always be most well known for his character of Spock and did not become jaded by it as so many celebrities do. He was a truly amazing human being.
The red uniforms were perfect for their era, and are (In my opinion) best uniforms with the First Contact uniforms coming in second. I also loved the Star Fleet Badges from the Original Series movies the most.
Hurts even more now that we've lost Nichelle. I had the pleasure of meeting her several times, including her last tour in 2019. And now only three remain.
What's this? A reboot of a beloved classic that shows genuine love and respect towards said classic, instead of mocking it and the fans for not liking this new version?!
This touching moment is for us (mostly Baby Boomers) who were there when the original series began. The original cast was the heart and soul of Star Trek!

You know what would have been funny if the picture of the cast on the bridge of the Enterprise A if that picture was a picture taken on the bridge of the T.O.S. Enterprise pre-refit.
This scene made me cry and was the only scene in the entire Abramsverse trilogy that moved me towards any emotion aside from unbridled anger and manic depression, and the only reason it made me do so was the stark contrast between how awful the Abramsverse is and how amazing even one photo for Star Trek V, which I used to consider the worst of Star Trek, is.
Out of curiosity, what is so bad about the new movies? Sure the story isn’t super out there, but they’re enjoyable none the less. Personally, even though it lacked the striking originality of the the original series and the subsequent spin-offs, these movies were genuinely entertaining and refreshing to see in a time where high effort sci fi is exceedingly rare.
@@partiallyslicedbread369 I think just explaining the plot of any of them pretty much says it all, like for example: could you summarise the plot of 'Star Trek' (2009)? (I realise you said the story wasn't super, but this is crux of it in my view, although I also do not like the cinematography style either)
Nicholas Kent I mean, I see it as this, I enjoyed the movies enough to recommend them, not to Star Trek fans or sci fi fans per say, but just the average person. I think that I watched the new Star Trek films for the stunning visual effects, the acting, and the appeal of seeing Star Trek modernized. And the plot of the 2009 movie is a bit too lengthy to summarize effectively.
In Wrath of Khan Spock is revived by a combination of the Genesis effect and his Vulcan physiology and mental abilities. In Into Darkness Kirk was revived by Khan's magic blood. Just one example of why the reboot movies suck.
@@partiallyslicedbread369Due to the fact that they changed the timeline to the point where it wasn’t really the OG crew (them with different backstories based on the time travel way to bring Spock Prime into the story) is why it is “bad” to some fans. The Kelvin version might end up being the best in their respective timeline regardless of how things changed before they even met because of Nero and Spock Prime unintentionally being brought back in time.
Beyond was my favourite of the new movies.. it connected the NX01-era Trek into the new series and also paid proper tribute to the old cast. Nicely done.

Not unreleased, just maybe you did not see it? That photo has been around since 1991 or earlier, I remember seeing it in a StarLog magazine.
Remey Rune really cause the bridge looks pretty similar to the one from Star Trek V
@@gabrielmenchaca1715 yes they used the same bridge but I believe the group photo was not taken at that time
@@remeyrune6009 You can tell it was ST5 because Sulu was still a Commander
Someone's cutting those onions around me again
R.I.P. Anton Yelchin, Leonard Nimoy, James Doohan, and Deforest Kelley 😭😭😭😭😭
And Ben cross, and jerry goldsmith, and james horner.
And nichelle nichols.
darnit there's something in my eyes again
They're called tears.
This scene shows how to give respect to what came before, something that the entire Star Wars sequel trilogy wasn't able to accomplish.
You nailed it right on the head!
I'd actually argue that the ST actually respected the OT too much, not really daring to do anything too new. The prequel trilogy on the other hand...man, it's actually somewhat insulting IMO.
@@YggdrasilAudio Fair point.
@@YggdrasilAudio you mean *sequel trilogy
@@Barri2410 No, I mean the prequels. Like, I get some of what they're going for, but the execution is so all over the place that any intended message becomes muddled, and I don't even find the movies particularly entertaining anymore.
EDIT And I know George Lucan had creative control over both the PT and the OT but they simply do not meld well in my eyes. I can elaborate if you want to.
This for me was the saddest thing I have ever seen so powerful and everlasting. I was brought up with the original series and it felt personal like losing a great friend
I thought, only me felt like this
Only legends in that photo
morals die legends live forever
JJA's star trek is real masterpiece. The whole movie connected to the old series.
I love the three things shown there.
The teachings of Surak,
The robes he wore to Romulus,
And a photo of his family.
Makes sense the Kir, Shira is like a bible to a Vulcan. They live their lives by its teachings.
The robes he wore on Romulus make sense as he wanted to remember all he had seen and done in his ultimate bid to unify both peoples
Family photo is not unusual either. When I flew transport aircraft or tankers near air battles my photo always reminded me to come home whatever the cost. I always made it back

Absolutely. That’s why I love it.
This is one of the best Tributes in all of Movie history
RIP Leonard Nimoy
When they showed the photo, I’ll admit I almost cried...
Oh I completely lost it. Just did again
I myself cried when I went to see it and still do when I watch it
Lie down
Try not to cry
Cry a lot.
I am almost cried over that scene.
aaronr607 you’re a true trekie fan.
Thanks. Its like a part of me already grew up and glad that the original spock met captain picard.
Almost?!? Man, I was full on waterworks...
Ok. I did
I haven't even watched the old films and I cried during this scene.
I remember the whole theater clapping when this part happened.
be strange to be young and have meet yourself as an old man
In addition yourself from another universe.
FreezeNexus alternate timeline
Such a beautiful way to memorialize the original Spock. RIP Leonard. Live long and prosper. 🖖
Spock joins the crew before the Federation President:
“Captain Spock, you do not stand accused.”
“I stand with my shipmates.”
It's poignant and reminder of the warmth and friendship the crew and real life cast. The original crew and cast grew old along with us. This new crew is still in their prime and yet to complete their 5 year mission. There isn't the same feeling of family.
It's coming along.
honor the past, and your future will be bright :,)
Live Long, and Prosper. 🖖🏻
Loved this moment in the theatre!
The real Trek team
not ashamed to admit, i shed a tear in the theater during this scene
Same
Just proves that we’re all still human somewhere in ourselves
Is it weird that I had a feeling it was going to be that exact photo? I had seen it years prior in a movie magazine, and the image stuck with me ever since.
Glad to see that it made it into the movie!
Kirk, Sulu, Chekov and Uhura are still alive. Half of the team.
Edit: RIP Uhura! Nichelle Nichols (1932-2022).
That moment brought back a lot of memories both from the last few classic era movies themselves and from my life at the time they were released.
The fact that only three of them are still alive makes this even more sad
RIP Leonard Nimoy (March 26, 1931 - February 27, 2015), aged 83
You will be remembered as a legend.
The red uniforms were perfect for their era, and are (In my opinion) best uniforms with the First Contact uniforms coming in second. I also loved the Star Fleet Badges from the Original Series movies the most.
Kirk, Sulu and Chekov are the only ones still around. (the actors at least)
Hurts even more now that we've lost Nichelle. I had the pleasure of meeting her several times, including her last tour in 2019. And now only three remain.
And one can’t hear you over the sound of how awesome he is ( Shatner)
That TOS trumpet theme
I nearly cried when I saw this.
See? This is why you shouldnt cancel this reboot series.
And quinto is better than peck. Just saying.
I wish Spock showed this picture to the others
Would you want to see how you look 30 years from now?
@@BigNoseDog Maybe
He probably did or will. If we get a fourth film with the Kelvin Timeline, we might just see that happen.
Even this Spock was like "Damn. I remember when Star Trek was good."
that is a good homage !
What's this? A reboot of a beloved classic that shows genuine love and respect towards said classic, instead of mocking it and the fans for not liking this new version?!
Cried so hard. So beautiful. Live long and prosper.
I guess we all got the feels with this scene. Yeah. I too got that lump in my throat. :)
This scene brings tears to my eyes
Ditto
Man I love this scene so much. I honestly can say I cried when I saw it in theaters, I still cry every time.
The last will and testament of Mr. Spock
Every time I see this, I cry.
Shame Spock prime never got back to his own universe, would have survived longer.
I was telling my sister that William Shatner might play alternate timeline Kirk. She said it was super unlikely but I was kinda right.
Maybe in the next film...
A wonderful nod to the original cast.
for the memory of prime spock...
RIP Leonard Nimoy
This touching moment is for us (mostly Baby Boomers) who were there when the original series began. The original cast was the heart and soul of Star Trek!
You know what would have been funny if the picture of the cast on the bridge of the Enterprise A if that picture was a picture taken on the bridge of the T.O.S. Enterprise pre-refit.
This scene alone made me cry when I went to see it and still does when I watch it
This scene made me cry and was the only scene in the entire Abramsverse trilogy that moved me towards any emotion aside from unbridled anger and manic depression, and the only reason it made me do so was the stark contrast between how awful the Abramsverse is and how amazing even one photo for Star Trek V, which I used to consider the worst of Star Trek, is.
Always tearing up
Hits especially hard today.
Not gonna lie: there were some Onion Ninjas in my house when I saw that photo.
Beyond was my favourite of the new movies.. it connected the NX01-era Trek into the new series and also paid proper tribute to the old cast. Nicely done.
Something that the SW sequel trilogy didn't do. Disney, take note: THIS is how you respect a franchise legacy.
I'll admit, when I saw this in theaters, I cried. And I still cry when I see it now.
it's interesting to think, everything in that box is what he had with him when Spock went to the Kelvin timeline, so that picture was quite important to him
If I'm not mistaken, he is the last surving senior Enterprise crew member by the time he's leaves his timeline.
@@re1010 As far as he knew, anyway. It's not known if McCoy survived to that point in the TNG era, but it is likely that Scotty did live to that time, as he was stuck in the Dyson Sphere for almost 80 years. I don't think they ever went into Uhura, Sulu, or Chekov beyond the last time we see them on-screen, so we don't really know how long after the Enterprise-B first voyage they lived.
@@2097Pyros It's long been rumoured that Montgomery Scott designed the Sovereign Class.
I did like that this ST series was part of an altetnate timeline.
