My brake band is set up like yours were at first, and they work fine. If I switch mine around like you did, my brakes lock up instantly at the slightest touch on the peddle, like and On/Off switch
Looks like mine is setup wrong as well. Time to take it apart and flip it. I’ve also been struggling with trying to use a cable system from a bicycle. I’m definitely switching to this solid round bar system like it was designed for. Thanks for this.👍😁
To those who missed it: if you look closely you can see the front of the brake band is attached to a pin on the go-kart frame, in front of the rear wheel.
You have your Chanel already, just start recording. I currently use my phone, tripod with phone mount and sometimes an external mic that was prob $20. Decent editing software is also useful. I use “Splice”. Good luck!
Thx for the video. The problem I’m running into is the bolt that goes through the brake band that mounts to the frame of the go cart was broke. So I replaced it with a grade 8 bolt and it’s just a hair bit too small and allows the band to wobble and a bigger bolt won’t fit. I may have to tack weld that on there I’m not sure
Sorry that didn’t work, sounds like a good fix if it would have. Same thing I would’ve done. The pegs are welded on. That’s prob what you’ll have to get done. I know some folks don’t have one. Let me know if you come up with another non welding solution. Would be good to share with folks. Thanks for watching.
Nice video dude...but i gotta say do you have a bolt and washer to keep your clutch on? Or do you not need it?...just want to keep you safe from a clutch going flying...
Is it in a kart or a bike? Ideally it would be fine. They get a little mushy when wet. Ideally hydronic disc would be best but if band is what ya have, I’d go for it and see if they responded they way you’d like. Cautiously check that is. Don’t go flying around near a cliff slamming on the brakes :-) thanks for watching.
Correct, it would be preferred but not totally necessary. I could not because of an alignment issues. Thanks for watching and being attentive :) I do appreciate that.
No, I actually thought about that myself. As far as I know they do not come with one. I guess they assume it’s not enough friction to matter, not a big deal for my kids driving it, but for me?....... :-)
Giovanny Luque if your brake works great when you roll the kart backwards, swap them around. That’s the first thing I noticed when I put the new band on. These brakes seem to only work one direction. Hope you get them fixed!
@@dustysrandom5079 hooooly crap just did the test real quick and holy smokes huge difference thanks sooo much for your video . I got brakes now, I was about to spend money on some upgraded disc brake but now i dont have to .

they work amazing. Just tested it out today and goddamn night and day difference.
Giovanny Luque awesome. I may have just saved your life..... at least that’s how I’ll tell the story :)
@@dustysrandom5079 haha yeah going 35 on a go kart with no brakes was pretty scary lol. So yeah you pretty much saved me.

Thank you! I couldn't figure out why my new brake was so bad!
You're a lifesaver. I bought one with no brakes and had no idea how the brake went together. Could you post a video of the brake pedal assembly?
I’ll see if I can get one out. Thanks for watching. Stay tuned, I’ll try to work on it this weekend.
Wish I would have seen this before buying a new band. 🤷♂️. HUGE help. Thank you ☺️
this video helped me figure out i had my brake band on upside down lol now it works!!
I see you in the future with 5 to 7 million followers
this would be good. Thanks!
@@dustysrandom5079 you welcome I am try to just start a RUclips channel with me fixing gokarts and bikes but I don't know how to start one

This helped out alot thank you
Thanks for the helpful tips ..very helpful
Dang thanks cause I didn't even know band brakes existed. Mine are shot haha
So there is no adjustments? Most likely I will have to replace the band in my gokart. Thanks
Those kids should be driving that and telling you if the breaks work or not 😂🤣😂
Dads have to have fun too!!!!!
Nice video dude...but i gotta say do you have a bolt and washer to keep your clutch on? Or do you not need it?...just want to keep you safe from a clutch going flying...
The clutch is secured with 2 set screws.
Thanks, how did u measure the band size? Across the drum?
Yes. Measure the drum, when you order it should say “for 4” drum” or whatever size yours is. Good luck. Thanks for watching.
Great man you are the shit got the same issue
I have the same set up on my sons kart, my question is does your rear axle turn freely when you turn the tire or do you feel some resistance?
You should be able to adjust the brake linkage to free up the band to lower resistance. My first stop would be checking the bearings though.
Please respond to this comment would you recommend this type of break system for trails

Great video
Dude the welds underneath the engine worry me, might want to reweld some spots
I have since, rewelded much of the kart for structural issues. Attentive eye! Thanks.
you don't have a bolt on your crank shaft for the clutch. It's needed.
Correct, it would be preferred but not totally necessary. I could not because of an alignment issues. Thanks for watching and being attentive :) I do appreciate that.
Is there a spring that puts the brake pedal back so the band brake doesn't stay rubbing on the drum? Thanks and enjoyed your video.

Hey bro can you can plz tell me the name of the brake rod. Mine fell off and i cant find any online
Here in the USA you can get them from BMI karts. Check out their site. I’m not sure the exact model but that have a large selection of sizes.
Cool video bro
is it really supposed to be on the top cause mine is on the bottom and it doesnt braake too well. that could be my issue.

How do I know what size of band I need?
Measure your drum, that’s the size you’d order. 4” drum = 4” inch band (it will be longer than 4” but that’s how they sell them). Thanks for watching.
my drum on my brakes shattered on me . i just got this older go cart last week and it,s been one damn thing after another with it . my luck i guess .
Awesome thanks
Lol that wheel sure come off easy try doing it when it is seized onto the axle.
