The GBA e-Reader version is special to me. It's the first game I ever finished the story of on my own. Sure, it was only 4 stages, but it was challenging to me at 9 years old and not having played arcade platformers like it before. Nowadays, I play the NES port mostly but can honestly say the 7800 port is good as well. Seeing Junior reunite with his dad still brings a tear to my eye :)
There's also a nice homebrew version released for the C64 by Mr SID in 2014. On the Spectrum version it looks more like Donkey Kong sr is trying to free Houdini from a plump pirate... which is pretty cool actually!
There's also another thing that's really cool in Donkey Kong Junior on the Coleco Adam. They managed to include a 5th level when you input a code at the selection screen. The level is supposed to be a kitchen at Mario's hideout, where Mario tries to drop pans of dough on Junior while he navigates through the kitchen. You can even drop fruit on Mario and stun him, which makes the Donkey Kong death sound!
That's because it was using the Atari 2600's sound chip (TIA), which was from 1977. The 7800 was supposed to have a Pokey sound chip, but Jack Tramiel nixed it as a cost-cutting measure. It did allow for cartridges to have an onboard Pokey chip, but only 2 cartridges ever had one: Ballblazer and Commando. Look up a gameplay video of Commando for the Atari 7800 and you'll hear what Atari 7800 games can sound like.
@@MaximRecoil I still can't get over how this retarded decision ruined a pretty decent console that could rival the NES just because a bunch of freaks wanted their shitty 2600 games playable on it.

It survived the video game crash. The Coleco Adam was it's downfall. I don't think the Colecovision could have competed with the NES because the SG-1000 was basically a Colecovision knockoff, but I think a Colecovision successor could have had some competition, it may in fact change the the way of controllers.
Coleco, in 1986 (when the NES started taking off in the US) was already broke. Between the failure of its home computer, the death of the videogame market, and the waning popularity of Cabbage Patch Kids, The Connecticut Leather Company would never have stood a chance against the NES.
Marvin Harrison Smith II, it was mostly because of the Adam. The Coleco was only mildly affected by the crash. I would say, if they spent time making a video game console instead of the Adam, they would have a better chance. More information can be found on Retro Game Living Room’s video.
