I went into a Chevy dealership a few days ago. I went there to schedule an oil change. I was planning on buying either a Camaro, WRX, or Mini Cooper later this year so I went onto the car lot to check out the Camaro. The sales person came up and asked if I wanted to test drive it and I said sure. After 5 hours of saying no I don't want the car today the dealership had offered to pay off my current car ($8k owed out of $10k that I bought it for), $7k off the original asking price, and lowered my APR from 8% to 5%. I knew this deal would never happen again and this is how I became an owner of a new 2018 Camaro.

What's up bro me again and gladly found this video. Crazy part is not just your advice is spot on and above stuff I never done before when buying a car or bike from a dealship or most commonly known as the stealership, a lot of problems you mentioned has happened to me and because I don't know I always went in for the most part with specifics and still got played because I didn't do the internet searches of local dealers and I felt that once I spoke with a salesman at ONE dealership and felt comfortable that's when I got jacked. With the salesman knowingly that I knew my car's and done builds before ECT thinking to myself this guy knows better just because we spoke and I explained thoroughly my knowledge of car's and my level of being mechanically inclined to such a point that I said to myself this guy knows better than to play me! You said it once you signed those papers it's unbelievably insane that you just did that and the number one response is when they pull it up is "hey you already signed so just take it then bring it back in a week" and we will take care of it. I could go on and on but if someone is reading this trust me listen to this man's advice and you probably should rewatch this video at least a few time's. I have gotten from wrong colors, wrong interior, small damage of course, wrong about of cylinders(LOL),check engine light, brake, abs, traction control, fluid level light's OMG you can't believe how true the fact is don't sign until they have it right up front and your holding the keys matching a vin# to the car you specifically wanted and checked THOROUGHLY! I must admit this was buying used car's from a year to 3 years old most of the time but always a new dealship because of how the previous one I dealt with, and I have to cut it short because I can write a book in addition to the video my man here has made. NEVER AND I'M SO SERIOUS NEVER COMPLAIN ABOUT YOUR PREVIOUS PURCHASE(NIGHTMARE) FROM ANOTHER DEALSHIP YOU MADE! Why? It's always been a mystery to me but it just seems like the salesman, manager, whoever is above it all says we have to 1,2, or even 3 up the problems this guy had before. He's an idiot they must have said. Until I waited and if it was a new car kept checking closest dealerships sales on the website's(ALWAYS PRINT OUT THE ADVERTISEMENT OF THE SALE OPTIONS ON THE EXACT CAR AND OPTIONS WITH PRICE(S)! If not you can tell them word for word and they will say "yeah, no problem" then you sign and they got you! Oh we sold that model and I can't give you this for that amount, I 'll get fired or how can a feed my family. If you show up with a scanned copy of the advertisement then all of a sudden a team huddles up ,low talking starts among other co- workers, thing's of that kind of nature. Almost always someone else comes back and asks where did you PRINT this from,or we can't do that, you must have a misprint or something is wrong with your scanner or computer. *ALWAYS BRING CASH IN THE AMOUNT OF THE ADVERTISEMENT PRICE AND SHOW IT AS THEY COME BACK WITH THE B.S. Then they say hold on because you made yourself clear you won't comprise, accept,or negotiate for a worse deal. As long as you show your down payment if that is all you got(best to have it all in cash for the whole amount of the car) and they "claim they can't do that " just silently pull out your own pen and paper to write your number down and say no problem I am taking this ADVERTISEMENT to another dealership TODAY because I am buying, leasing, whatever and if you can figure it out before I sign on some other vehicle call me .Watch how they almost never let you walk away more than a few steps but NEVER sign until you make it clear to tell them go draw up the paper's and will be vin checking it 1st and a second run through of the vehicle YOU wanted as before. They almost certainly will be angry but watch how you end up with what you want. Don't be afraid either because these guy's a lot of the time's get very undisirable and angry but while your holding the keys to the matching car then sign while sitting in it walk in the office with the money and walk out with plates you may want to bring a screwdriver or pliers and install your plates yourself. You win!!!

Personally, I own a 2015 1Lt/RS with a manual transmission. Don't fault anyone whom wants to own an automatic. But personally? The paddle shifter without the clutch just doesn't feel the same. It feels.... wrong? I love the feel of my foot pressing down on the clutch, the stick shifting from 1 to 2 or 3 to 4 or whatever. The sound of the engine as you shift up or down, then the control over power. The entire process is blissful to me.
Bought my 2015 new this year, at 15% off msrp.

I have never bought a vehicle off the lot. I write down what i want and have them find one already built somewhere in the country. Most dealers will spec search GM vehicles for you and swap inventory with another dealer. Once they find one and give me the Vin#, i have another dealer search the VIN and present me an offer. I usually knock off a grand or two, sometimes the sales people get frustrated but i don't give two ducks.

What I did has figured out everything I wanted, every option, color everything so I was buying the same exact car from each dealer. Step number two is buy your car over the phone. Some dealers told me that they won't deal over the phone, I just told them, OK I will the next dealer. I had a list that I downloaded of every Chevy dealer in my state. I started calling the dealers one by one and told each one them the same thing. I'm going to order a new car and if you will sell it to me for one dollar over invoice I will drive in and place my order. Don't let them try to sell you a car off there lot. This puts everyone on the same playing field, ether they will or they won't, if not just move on to the next dealer on the list.

  • @TheJerseyFloridian

Great vid, Hammer. Car buying is definitely fun if you know what you're doing, have done all your research, and deal with a reputable dealership/salesman. It all can go south when you haven't met those three criteria.
You are spot on with know the invoice price for the options you want. Don't go in talking about monthly payments(major mistake) and price haggle from the top. The car is listed at 50k, invoice is 47k. Don't let them sell you on well with 5k down we can make your payments $399 a month. Sounds great until it's a 84 month loan where you're paying more in interest over the life of the loan with a higher interest rate and will have negative equity for the majority of it. Just focus on getting the price of the car as close to 47k as possible and keeping the loan terms as short as possible.
And if possible come in with your own financing from a credit union that isn't trying to fleece you at a 2.99% interest rate when you qualify for 1.99% or even 0.99%. Finance managers do get kick backs when they get you at the higher rate and they only get you when you aren't prepared.
There's so many nuances into car buying but just like anything, if you know how to play the game it makes it much more fun.

Great video Hammer. Really helpful for those who are planning to buy a car.
Don't tell dealer that you are looking for new car and planning to get ASAP.
I went to dealership with list of options I need and amount I would like to pay and mentioned don't want to pay penny more than this. They will try to pay you more by showing monthly payments and tell you there will be just $12 more per month than what you would like to pay. Don't fall for that. The car with options I mentioned was not available at that time. Finally I was able to get car with better options than what I want for same price I mentioned. dealers want to clear their inventory. Truecar.com is not really help full. I paid $5000 less than truecar.com estimate. Check out dealership review before going there.

I ordered mine and had vin made to my liking, but before all that I went out and test drove the Challenger with the scat pack, and the GT 350 No R, the Camaro was priced best handled the best, power wise too close to tell, but all N' all I already knew I was getting a 2SS I just wanted to know my competition in my price range.

I went to a dealership in the South Bay Area (NoCal) CA the other day to check out the inventory. Actually was hoping to find a new 2018 hoping to get a good buy but they only had 2019's, and that's fine too. I'm partial to the 2LT RS with V6, auto, sunroof, leather and maybe tbe tech package. Anyway I sat in basically the car I'd be willing to consider but the salesman told me there is no dealing on the price because the cars are too much in demand. The MSRP on the vehcile wss $35k. I mentioned Presidents Day sales coming up and he said, no not on Camero's. We were sitting there for quite a while rapping about the cars and even had the engine running for a while. He never once asked if I wanted to test drive it. It was idling so long while we were talking the engine eventually turned itself off, which he said was a feature of remote start. Anyway i just thought it was very odd that he didn't seem the least bit interested in selling me the car. And I was the only customer there at the time, I didnt see anyone else at all. Weird... I do like the car but I'm not willing to believe there is no room in the price at all so I really got turned off by the response the guy gave me. I also thought his comment about Camaro's being in high demand was off as frankly I personally dont see a ton of them on the roads here in the Bay Area actually. Anyway that was my experience.

The local dealer down the road says no discount even though he has tons of 2016 on the lot. If I drive 30 miles from my city they are offering 2500 off of the SS and 1750 on the V-6. You just have to do your homework or get taken. A little patience pays off!

    • @Lethalgarage

  • @cardo1111

Well done vid, some good tips. A lot of dealers will try to pass things through like haze/swirl marks, unpacking damages to moldings etc. A busy dealership delivering a bunch of cars at the end of the month will often rush through prep that can often cause finish damage, beware and don't take delivery at night when you can't take a good look. Any salesman that asks me how much I want to pay per month my answer is always $10. The more informed you are the less likely you will regret your purchase decision.

But I could get the 2lt and have payments in 400 a month. but i wouldn't be happy with a v6. I want that v8, the raw power, the experience. I need 3k more to reach a 5k minimum down payment. plus I'll be buying 2016, hopefully there will be good incentives since 17s are taking over

I have a 2015 4series convertible with the M sport package but you'll pay for them mine is on my page luv it but you have to keep up on the maintenance with the Germans and have a great local tech who is reputable if you plan on keeping them past the 50K point. Guys buying M's with high mileage better have a savings account for repairs! These Camaros can take a beating and come back for more and parts are everywhere for them.

Easy: I want an auto 1SS with w/ NPP.
    Shop local dealers online inventory
Find one that matches your preference (or is configured very close)
Plug exact configuration of vehcile into Truecar.com
Print lowest cost certificate and show up to dealer offering it. They'll probably contact you first.
Usually $3K or more of MSRP.
Once agreed on the Truecar price, negotiate trade separately if you have one.
Done this a few times. Simple.
