Thanks to both of you for being such sensitive ambassadors for so many distressed regions that the average among us don't have any direct access to. I appreciate the truth you share. I work with a physician from Lebanon and have known him for almost 20 years and as much as he can tell, it is not the same thing as being able to see it.
I've been wondering where you were as I've missed your videos, but you've come back with a belter. It's so sad to see such proud people with a rich heritage being made to suffer like this, mostly due to corruption that is out of their control. People here complain about the cost of living, but in comparison, we really don't have much to worry about. Hats off to you for raising awareness of the severity of the situation in such a sensitive way. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

@MattandJulia , oh gosh, I'm sorry to hear that, but don't apologise. Your personal life comes before anything else. I know how things can move from 0 to 100 overnight. Basically being a shut-in, it is difficult to see and understand that the entire world is in the same pickle as we are. People like the two of you are opening others eyes to realize it really is a small world and what affects one will make its way to everyone else. No one needs to be alone in their suffering. Loving life and letting go of what hurts is the only way to continue moving forward. Thank you once again for opening our eyes and our hearts to how others make it day to day and still keep a smile.
I worked as a young physician at AUB in 2017-2018 and was paid 1,200,000 monthly which was a bit over 1000$. So many fond memories there. No other city has the essence that Beirut had. My heart goes out to Lebanon and its people ❤ Thank you for shedding the light ❤

I remember in the late 70’s we had a young man’s (7th grade) had been sent to Iowa and was in my class. His brother was a high school teacher and that’s why he was able to come over. He hadn’t been to school for 2 years. Listening to him was fascinating and sad for him. He had left his parents there.
Lebanon is a beautiful country. We had a week visit quite a while ago when it was relatively peaceful. Hope you do the Bekka Valley, the wineries, the archeological sites and Biblos. Stunning country. And yes, I know how bad the economy is now from keeping up with the news. Very nice reportage. Thanks.
Like a forest fire that wipes out the old trees to make room for new growth, bearish periods ultimately establish a new crop of stocks to buy and watch while setting the stage for a robust new uptrend.I have been reading articles of people that grossed profits up to $250k during this recession, what are the best stocks to buy now or put on a watchlist?

It's good to see your travel stories again, I missed you the last weeks Sad story what happens in Lebanon, so many misfortunes at the same time. Very informative, thank you for posting. Your friend was really helpful in pointing out some of the problems. I look forward to seeing more parts of Lebanon in your next videos.
Really appreciate the balanced look at places, not just being lighthearted travelers passing through crisis areas. These are such difficult days for so many people all over the world and it helps me to see a global perspective and find a glimmer of hope
Thank you for the vídeo. Very informative and empathic. Hello to João Sousa: I’m half Lebanese, half German living in Lisboa for 21 years. I know and love your work for L’Orient le Jour. Parabéns !
Thank you so much for the appreciation! Hope you're enjoying my homeland. Crazy how life works in a way that we end up switching places and finding home elsewhere!
Lebanon is such a beautiful country. The city of Beirut is Food Heaven and its people are warm and friendly. It's a shame that its economic conditions have taken a turn. Harriet and I have been to Beirut , the people are resilient and will one day come back. The video was sincere and well done. We love you Dear Friends❤❤❤ from Harriet, Jim and Yuki 🙏🙏🙏
I met someone here that had to leave Lebanon, and he struggled for a while, but such a good, decent man. This situation must be really hard for families, not knowing what anything will cost even tomorrow. Obviously the government is completely unable to deal effectively with the situation, corruption was reported as extremely common, leaving the ordinary people to deal with the inflation. It's an horrific situation, that explosion was incredible, and it's still badly affecting people. I know a lot of younger people are choosing to make a life elsewhere, I don't blame them. It's a beautiful city, historical, people are gracious, hopefully things will stop getting worse, go toward a brighter future. Take care, thank you. 🇨🇦
Thank you for visiting my beautiful country 🇱🇧 Beirut is in terminal decline since 2019 and I personally avoid it completely because it has a melancholic aura and makes me sad. The rich poor divide is extreme and 40% - 43% of Beirut's residents are non-Lebanese so ironically it is currently the least 'Lebanese' city in the entire country. I recommend you visit my town Zahle where the ⚡ electricity and 🌊 water supply is much better than it is in Beirut. As for food - yes, we have a fantastic cuisine but in all fairness in the areas you hang around in Beirut you won't find high quality authentic Lebanese Cuisine. Most of the tourists that visit Beirut these days are Iraqis and Egyptians and they, too, have limited spending power and perhaps are less focused on gastronomy. Enjoy the rest of your stay and for Heaven's sake stay away from the overpriced and horrible tasting coffee in paper cups from Starbucks !
I don't think anyone outside of Lebanon, could ever think just how much damage the Beirut explosion did to the country. the govt being abso freaking corrupt also didn't help
went to lebanon ten years ago, cannot wait to go back. Amazing country, amazing people. it is so so sad to follow the latest news there. You walked past a cafe I went to - everything seems so damaged still :(
My mother, way back in the 70s, used to talk about the beautiful Cypress trees, of Lebanon. She also talked about the destruction of the beautiful country of Lebanon
Yes, mostly the Syrians and the Syrian army destroyed much of Lebanon and now the Syrian emigrants are destroying its nature and people. However it's still beautiful
Thank you both, for a very informative vlog, n no did not know this was happening in Lebanon, was horrible what happened there with the explosion a while ago, and thank god for the black market making it easier on your travel budget lol, and it’s good to see you back, posting, hopefully there will be a vlog from your time in Syria and plenty more from Lebanon, as always have fun and enjoy your travels
Really glad you enjoyed it and found it informative David! Apologies for the slightly long wait, had a few family matters taking over 😔❤️ Yes 1000%, we have lots of videos coming up from Syria. Can’t wait to share them next 🙏🏼🥰❤️
The economic crisis happened because all Central Banks and governments would rather sacrifice the currency than default on their debt. The same thing is happening everywhere.
Thank you for this wonderful video! I have incurred so much losses trading on my own....I trade well on demo but I think the real market is manipulated.... Can anyone help me out or at least tell me what I'm doing wrong?
Interesting video , oh yes I really enjoyed all your hard work putting all of this together . It reminds me of a place called NICE in the south of France . The warm weather , the noisy streets , the scooters , the traffic . And then the sea close by . I enjoyed the mix of the city , the richness and all those nice looking cars and also the total destruction of Beirut . The inflation is so abrupt money becomes worthless . I enjoyed the warmth of the people living there , a bit like a southern part of Europe . Now thanks for posting , your video are always welcoming so brilliantly put together . Both of you thank you .
What a pleasure and what emotions to revisit, with you, those places, which remained imprinted in my heart forever... I lived in Beirut, for 3 years, at the beginning of the '90s, Hamra exactly, friends of mine were living in Ashrafieh. Watching your video I remembered every street, corners, buildings, smells, sounds, noises...brings me tears...my heart aches for this place. Thanks for sharing 💟🙏🇱🇧
Thank you again for giving me the opportunity to get a glimpse of how beautiful this place is. Stay safe and healthy and always be happy. Michael from Hamburg 😎
Thanks so much for taking us to Beirut! What a lovely city, despite the damage and the $$$ crisis. I hate seeing countries with rich cultures and cuisines that struggle like that! We all lose when that happens. Can’t wait to see your videos with the Lebanese food!!! Have fun!
As always, I appreciate you taking us off the beaten path, this is so not how I imagined Beirut, those high rises have a filthy rich Dubai vibe rather than the derelict buildings people normally associate with Beirut. Off topic but you look particularly beautiful in this video Julia, love the outfit too❤
I was a bit aware of the situation in Lebanon thanks to another travelvlogger I follow (Indigo Traveller, who makes very informative videos too). However, it is so sad to see the state of city and the economy still in such disarray. Lebanon has suffered greatly but its People are so resilient, I hope they will be able to endure and make things better. On another note: Julia , you are absolutely GLOWING !
Fantastic vlog! I’m sure that, like me, most of us had very little knowledge of what life is like in Lebanon right now. You’re so good at providing some clarity in complicated situations. And I love that you do it with some humor.
One of your best and interesting videos so far! Imo, it's so important to show also the "bad" sides of a country or, better say, what effects the population in good and in bad ways and why they live like they live
Hello guys and welcome to my home country Lebanon! Sorry I was extremely busy and last time I checked on your videos you were in Japan and here you are in Lebanon!! I wish I was still living in Beirut so I could meet you in person but unfortunately I have left Lebanon +20 years ago and don't see myself returning soon for obvious reasons! Hope you've enjoyed your stay in Lebanon as I am still catching up with your previous videos from Japan, stay safe both of you ❤🙏
All I can say is, WOW. You two are the loveliest couple on RUclips. I get so excited when I see another video pop up. Thank you for sharing your travels with us
Hi there. Glad to watch you guys telling us the story of Present Lebanon. Quite an eerie feeling of rethinking the blast of the buildings Do you know Lebanese people are beautiful. Their eyes are amazingly stunning. Do you guys agree?😊
I also highly recommend exploring Lebanon's mountains and villages (like Ehden). The landscapes are stunning, and the experience of hiking or simply enjoying the picturesque views is truly unforgettable. I suggest going with a local from Lebanon who can introduce you to the typical and delicious food that the region has to offer. 😍😍
Both Lebanon and Syria are wonderful places. The people are the most hospitable in the world. The streets, honking cars all bring me back. The way people over there have suffered the past years is plain wrong. I would love both countries to thrive. Good governance would help.
Hi Julia, hi Matt, missed this video days ago and was wondering where you are. Good to see you safe and not behind bars in Japan as jakuzas. Didnt know about the economic situation in Lebanon but since the pandemic the world isnt that anymore what it was before. Waiting for your next vids. Take care, stay safe and enjoy your daily life. Love the unpredictability of you two when planned it does not work just go with the flow and be and travel and give us all the bad and the good...love this about you tow
It’s actually well covered in the media in my experience. Perhaps not the ditzy cnn/bbc etc. but France24, DW, Al Jazeera and so on. I’ve watched quite a few segments since the fertilizer blast in 2020.
Many people in the Middle East need to focus and better their own countries as peace and stability are key. Too many Middle Easterners I meet try to discuss how they belong in Europe or the USA and feel that some aspects of some countries especially in Southern Europe are similar but I always say "What about your home countries?" How can you better them and many just leave .... But, they don't care they just want to leave or prove they are more European. It is sad. Globalization has left many countries feeling hopeless for their own future. Great video!
Very interesting video. I was born in Alexandria Egypt, but have lived in Australia for the last 60 years. Whilst in Egypt, yes it is true that Egyptians holidaying in Lebanon used to say that it was the Paris of the Middle East. I feel for these people and the traumatic life that they’ve endured in the last few years. When a company is doing well and profitable,it is because the Management is good and on the ball. However,it is the opposite if it’s failing and their managers should be brought to accountability because that’s what they were employed to do. This theory should also apply to governments worldwide.
Hay, haven't seen you both for quite a while. Looks like your having a wonderful time. Great to see you both again. Be safe and have a nice day, or night.
*If you love arts, you should have visited the amazing and recently refurbished "Sursock Museum" in the Achrafieh district of Beirut. Also, "The National Museum of Lebanon" in the Badaro district, would have been well worth visiting as well!*
Lebanon up close and personal with my two favorite people; *Matt and Juila...* Thank you,,, 🙂 I have to add this; dealing with the black market, you guys almost getting run over by the traffic and Juan surviving the Lebanon Blast and thank God for that... Thanks for bringing us the the sights & sites, colour and chaos of this beautiful city. The word "resilient" was made to describe the Lebanese people - tough as all hell, but happy to greet another day with a smile and a laugh. I am sad I never visited this beautiful country but your video was wonderful and represented the city beautifully. Thanks Matt. Thanks Julia. ❤❤Ross
I wasn’t aware of what’s been happening despite trying to keep up a little with world news. If the financial situation continues surely it will cause ruin for both people, business and country so at some point something will have to change, won’t it? Watching your videos always makes me realise there is so much craziness going on in the world and it’s frightening. I’m off to google some more!! You’re doing some great vlogs guys!!! 🍻🍹🍹🥰🙅♀️🙅♀️
80%+ of the country has been pushed into poverty. The issues in Lebanon have been going on for a very long time and are largely due to the fact that the country is made up of 3 separate groups. There was an agreement that certain groups always get certain positions in the government and there is long standing corruption and no repercussions if the jobs are not done well. There is a constant fight to obtain the most power and influence in the country and the groups are backed by larger entities like Iran for example. The focus has not been what is best for the country in general. There was some very poor decisions which lead to the banking sector essentially collapsing but was predictable. The IMF refuses to help Lebanon until they put in more effective government which they have not been able to do for years even though most of the country is struggling to afford basics and the country is not even able to provide electricity all day. Having a generator has been very common for most middle class and wealthy homes and business as well as other essential services like hospitals for at least a decade but fuel used to be available and affordable which is no longer the case. Lebanon imports fuel as well as most items and it is not uncommon to have to wait all day to get fuel from a gas station if it is available. If you have money there are black market ways to get fuel although you will pay more. Deliveries of fuel are inconsistent because receiving payment for the deliveries can be difficult or significantly delayed. Most of the country only gets a few hours of electricity a day at the moment. There has always been a wealthy group that is paid in foreign currency that has always done better than those who made Liras. There is also a large number of expats who have savings from abroad or those who depend on remittances to sustain their quality of life in Lebanon. Many have gone back to other countries with the current economic crisis. Most professionals are trying to leave Lebanon and there is a huge brain drain creating huge problems for places like hospitals. Professionals leaving will just lead to more pain financially for the country. If your savings were not in Lebanese banks you got lucky and did not lose all your savings. Technically those who have savings in Lebanese banks haven’t lost their savings on paper but they are only able to access a small amount per month so you don’t have access to your savings. The banks and the government don’t have the assets to cover all the deposits that are in the bank on paper so in reality most will never see the savings they deposited in the bank. There is also a very large number of Syrian refugees in Lebanon that have put a strain on resources but also have been incorrectly blamed for a large portion of the economic issues. Lebanon has started reporting some of the refugees back to Syria or have made it so intolerable to remain in Lebanon that some are risking returning to Syria. Unless there are significant changes the situation is only going to get worse. The political elite and wealthy don’t care and so unfortunately I expect this to get much worse. The only support being provided by other governments is done without allowing the Lebanese government to be involved or the money passing through government accounts. There are so many humanitarian issues going on in the world that most are only receiving a small proportion of the money needed to support the poor and displaced. Lebanon used to be a country where refugees or the poor came to settle (eg. Palestinians, Syrians, etc.) while now you are seeing Lebanese citizens taking boats to try to land in Europe, immigrating to other countries if you qualify, etc. This is a very simplified version of what is going on.
I grew up with Lebanese kids in Sydney's western suburbs back in the 70s and it was no surprise that they missed their homeland. What did surprise many Australians is that subsequent generations, born in Australia, decided they would carry a chip on their shoulders. A lot of unhappy campers in Oz ATM - mortgages and rents keep rising with the official interest rate - but Lebanese-Australiabs should be ecstatic that their parents/grandparents settled here. Thanks for the video.
Thank you for this honest video. I wondered how Beirut was doing after that massive port explosion. I was in Venezuela 17 years ago, and, economically, it was similar to what you describe. It's even worse there now. But as you say, people remain smiling and friendly.
just remember that it's this way in Venezuela not because of its government but because of the NATO countries' dictatorship and terror with economical sanctions. your countries are chocking and robbing these countries. and these leaders are elected by you, democratically of course 😉
No gunfire, relatively new cars on the streets, people still with hope after everything they have endured. Lebanon is not likely to return to its halcyon days - but it can improve, however gradually. Good luck.
Nice to see you posting again. The situation in Lebanon for the less wealthy people is tragic in every respect. It‘s good of you to let the world know about it. For reasons I don‘t know, the what’s going on in the Lebanon is seldom a topic in western medias. Am I right that you are pregnant? 😊
Its really sad about what happened to Lebanon 🇱🇧🇱🇧 I really hope that they may fully recover someday from their recent situation coming from the Philippines.
It's kind of ironic that your friend brought you to Anthony Bourdain's favourite restaurant, because as I started watching this video, it reminded me of the quality and the substance of the series, Parts Unknown, featuring him. This is next level travel vlogging. Add food and it's the magic elixir, IMHO :)

Lebanon is such a beautiful country. The city of Beirut is Food Heaven and its people are warm and friendly. It's a shame that its economic conditions have taken a turn. Harriet and I have
been to Beirut , the people are resilient and will one day come back. The video was sincere and well done. We love you Dear Friends❤❤❤ from Harriet, Jim and Yuki 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you so much guys!! Really hope you are all well 🥰❤️ Lots of love from the both of us!! ❤️❤️❤️
Its Karma, because they left christianity and convert to Islam!! All country under islam with No Oil are all Poor and bad luck..
A beautiful and insightful video, Joao was great! One of your best videos I reckon.
Thank you so much Amo! So happy to hear you enjoyed our video!
❤️
Great to see you two again ! Even in a sad post. Stay safe ! 💕🌷
Thank you so much Yvonne! Really appreciate your amazing support! Been a crazy couple of weeks, but we are back positing regular again! 😊❤️❤️❤️
"Privatize profits; socialize risks" seems to be very popular these days worldwide.
So true, unfortunately
Absolutely...
Thank you for visiting my beautiful country 🇱🇧
Beirut is in terminal decline since 2019 and I personally avoid it completely because it has a melancholic aura and makes me sad.
You walked past a cafe I went to - everything seems so damaged still :(
Me to ,
Was there over Christmas and new year’s,,,was an absolute treasure!
@@HHH99ob Believe me, they should be blamed for what they did. They ruined the future of Lebanon
@@HHH99ob Syrian politicians brainwashed our stupid politicians with money.
Thanks! Another awesome video
Apologies for the slightly long wait, had a few family matters taking over 😔❤️
Yes 1000%, we have lots of videos coming up from Syria.

Thank you so much Nicolas for your kind words and your support! We really appreciate it, means the world to us ❤️
What a pleasure and what emotions to revisit, with you, those places, which remained imprinted in my heart forever...
Have fun!
Thank you so much Linda! ❤️❤️❤️
The country of my ancestors. Such a beautiful place and food is amazing
As always, I appreciate you taking us off the beaten path, this is so not how I imagined Beirut, those high rises have a filthy rich Dubai vibe rather than the derelict buildings people normally associate with Beirut. Off topic but you look particularly beautiful in this video Julia, love the outfit too❤
Thank you so much!!! 🙏🏼❤️🥰
We also really enjoy Indigo Travellers videos, incredibly informative and well shot 🥰🙏🏼
Thank you so much Annabel! ❤️
Fantastic vlog! I’m sure that, like me, most of us had very little knowledge of what life is like in Lebanon right now. You’re so good at providing some clarity in complicated situations. And I love that you do it with some humor.
Thank you so much Naomi!! Means the world! 🥰❤️
I' stayed Lebanon 10yrs l left during corona, l was vry proud and Happy.....still l pray for this country from KENYA.
Love you two and your vlogging! Also just LOVE Julia's red lipstick look! Just stunning!
Quite an eerie feeling of rethinking the blast of the buildings
Do you know Lebanese people are beautiful. Their eyes are amazingly stunning.
Do you guys agree?😊
For sure, incredibly beautiful people both inside and out ☺️❤️
I also highly recommend exploring Lebanon's mountains and villages (like Ehden). The landscapes are stunning, and the experience of hiking or simply enjoying the picturesque views is truly unforgettable. I suggest going with a local from Lebanon who can introduce you to the typical and delicious food that the region has to offer. 😍😍
Plz stop doing bad publicity about our country ! Our country is rising back again and we are solving every issue 😊 thx for understanding
Both Lebanon and Syria are wonderful places. The people are the most hospitable in the world. The streets, honking cars all bring me back. The way people over there have suffered the past years is plain wrong. I would love both countries to thrive. Good governance would help.
missed you guys thanks for the upload :)
Thank you so much! We are back posting regular again, we promise 🥰❤️❤️❤️
CU
Love the unpredictability of you two when planned it does not work just go with the flow and be and travel and give us all the bad and the good...love this about you tow
❤️❤️❤️
@@MattandJulia keerp moving with motion and living thankyou for your hearts love you both
Joao explained and described things so perfectly and accurately
So excited to see a Matt and Julia video pop up on my feed. Your outro gave me Rick Steves vibes in a good way :)
Top notch video as always ❤
It’s actually well covered in the media in my experience. Perhaps not the ditzy cnn/bbc etc. but France24, DW, Al Jazeera and so on. I’ve watched quite a few segments since the fertilizer blast in 2020.
Respect From Pakistan ❤
Great vlog as always very informative Thanks
Many people in the Middle East need to focus and better their own countries as peace and stability are key. Too many Middle Easterners I meet try to discuss how they belong in Europe or the USA and feel that some aspects of some countries especially in Southern Europe are similar but I always say "What about your home countries?" How can you better them and many just leave .... But, they don't care they just want to leave or prove they are more European. It is sad. Globalization has left many countries feeling hopeless for their own future. Great video!
The middle class is shrinking everywhere. Thankyou for the awesome video.
All the love from Lebanon. Thanks for sharing our country ❤️🙏🏼
I love your videos so much, it feels like we are there with you. ❤
Thanks for taking us to Lebanon, we all seemed to have forgotten about Beruit after the explosion that happened there. Be safe.
Lebanon up close and personal with my two favorite people; *Matt and Juila...* Thank you,,, 🙂 I have to add this; dealing with the black market, you guys almost getting run over by the traffic and Juan surviving the Lebanon Blast and thank God for that... I feel like I'm watching a *James Bond* movie... PS: please tell Juan thank you for sharing his story with us...
So glad you enjoyed it Larry! 🥰❤️🙏🏼
I’m glad you visit areas that aren’t tourist hotspots.
Thank you 😊
GOOD JOB. Very down to earth couple showing all the angles of Lebanon. The good the bad and the ugly.
Thank you for this great Report
Thank you so much 🥰❤️
Thanks for you very interesting video! Love Lebanon!
❤️❤️❤️
Great video. Looking forward to seeing more. Be safe. Thank you.
Thank you so much Fred 😘❤️
My understanding is Initially accounts were frozen but since then People can still access their accounts funds but in trickles/limited. Accounts don’t show $0 accounts showing same amount as before
Thank you for sharing such a balanced insight into this country. Looking forward to learning more in your upcoming videos.
❤❤Ross
Thank you so much Ross!! 🥰❤️
I enjoyed this thumbs up...
Thank you very much, so happy to hear! ❤️
Glad to see more people from the uk visiting Lebanon that’s amazing! All love from Lebanon to the UK 🇬🇧🇱🇧
This is so insightful.... thanks guys!
Thank you so much Jess 😘 so happy to hear you enjoyed the video 🤗❤️
Get out of Beirut and explore the rest of the country.
Thank you so much for your videos. I only discovered your channel a couple days ago and I've watched about 20 already.
Amazing video that’s probably the best look at Lebanon in a long time, well done.
Be
Excellent video about what looks like such an amazing city. Hats off for such genuine, heartfelt, inquisitive travel content.
Great video. First time watching you. Really enjoyed it. I am British living in Cyprus last 10 years. I will visit. Thank you so much for your work.
Thanks to both of you for enlightening us the sad story of Lebanon.
Thank you so much for doing this. Amazing vlog!!!!!!!!
I would love to visit Lebanon one day. I am Hispanic American. Lebanese people are lovely people.
Good luck.
So excited for the upcoming vids....
We are so excited to share everything, can’t wait!!! 🤗❤️
It was so interesting and really informative. I feel so bad for the people there.
On a positive note - what a beautiful city ❤
Glad to see you both
Nice to see you posting again.
Awesome video, very informative, and eye opening.
Thanks, again, folks. One other thing... Julia doesn't need red lipstick to look beautiful. She looks great just natural.
I agree, but when she does it, she can really rock the look!!
So sad to see the country in such a state of turmoil.
Heartbreaking. Such an incredible country with a highly educated population too.
Hizballah root of Lebanon's problems...
TYSM for speaking about this ❤❤❤🇱🇧
Wow….! Thank you for this video and information…. So interesting and BEAUTIFUL…the people…!
Thank you so much! So happy to hear you enjoyed our video 🤗❤️
Very interesting video. I really appreciated it and learned something new. 👍
