    Great information, specially that storage under the seat.

    If you're worried about the seat buckles slipping out of the holes in the back seat, just buckle in the belts before lifting the seat.

    The space under the rear bench was handy for me - I have the anemic base sound system and had a small subwoofer installed there! Made a huge difference and the car looks stock!

    I like to leave the house at 6:00am for work in the morning at 80% SOC, but I like to plug it in the night before. I set the timer to charge in time slot begining at 4am. I set the departure time for 1hr 45min longer than my actual departure time, so for me 7:45 am. My car is 2019 120ah, so yours might be different. Anyhow, the car thinks it needs to be 100% at a later time than actual, and you figure out the exact time to tell it so it is at the charge level you want at the hour you want. By setting the time slot with not enough time to get to full charge by the departure time, it will automatically start to charge early, before the set time slot, but just enough to reach full charge by the departure time. Since you set it later than actual, it hits 80% at the exact time you want. Also, this is at 7.6 kw charging. Mess around with it and you will find the perfect recipe and it will be repeatable everytime as long as the time slot hour slot is too late, depending on SOC, forcing the car to start charging early and at the exact time it needs to.

      This is a great idea to do "80%" charging since there is no other easy way I know. Some people say that there is already such a big buffer at the top and bottom of the battery settings that it is not necessary, but why not add extra margin if you can? Thanks for the information.

    • @benbaselet2026
      @benbaselet2026 2 года назад +1

      @@bmwi3diy782 I have read a lot from the forums that you can charge to 100% since there are so big buffers. But Electrified app tells me cell voltage is something like 4.19 V at full charge and that does not sound like 80% or 90% to me but higher.

    • @ZagorMr
      @ZagorMr Год назад +1

      If You want to charge 80% than use OFF-PEAK HOURS schedule so it will automatically switch of (here in Macedonia cheap hours ends at 0700). I didn't tried if I can fix the start time charging at specific hour, I think I don't have that option, but you can put the start Off- Peak hours later than it is (here starts at 2200). Also you can play with the strength of charging, so somehow you can figure out for example to plug in the charger near to 2200 hours using LOW or MID charge power. Besides keeping 80% max charge you are additionaly extending the battery life charging with low current, in your case charging scheme lowest than 7.6kW.

      Awesome, a true electronaut! The embroidered "Electronaut" frunk bag is pretty rare beast too (any frunk bag now). I still think this is a uniquely designed (&looking) car after 10 yrs, and drives better (more fun) than most of the newer EV's. Thanks for watching the channel!

    just found your channel, great stuff. Here is a question for you. Some i3s have a little chamber under the cap of the brake fluid reservoir that stops you from filling it. Some you can just pour in. Mine you can't. 2018 Rex

      I feel your pain... Back in 2018 when I purchased mine as a CPO (certified pre-owned from lease return) they were 'almost' giving them away. I think because of Tesla popularity at the time, futuristic (i.e. quirky) look, sales/demand was very low. Unfortunately (if you are buying now) the prices have gone back up dramatically with gas prices high, even for the older models (in the U.S. at least). I was looking at the 2019 lease returns (bigger battery) but the price is just way too high right now to justify an upgrade.

    • @bmwi3diy782

      Interesting idea. I suppose it depends on the purpose and use case. It would probably fit under the rear seat, and 12V power is available ( I saw specs that say it draws 40 watts, so the 12V battery would only last a few hours if the car is off) and you would need to find or drill holes through the carbon fiber chassis for fuel, intake and exhaust lines. Maybe retrofitting the trunk lid would be easier to do (aluminum, access to the outside & power). Since you have a large battery, my first thought is that I wouldn't do it, and buy an electric blanket with the car put in standby. Second, maybe it would make more sense to add a 500-1kw electrical heater connected to the inverter directly under the trunk (since it is capable of ~2KW output at 12V DC, but the car would need to be 'on')- but the main heater is pretty capable already so this might be redundant.

    I want to change my tire size is that possible the original tires to expensive

    • @bmwi3diy782
      @bmwi3diy782  Год назад +1

      Bridgestone tires are the only all season ones in the U.S. I am aware of, however, if you are in the EU there are more choices. One concern is that the clearance between the front coil spring and the inside of the tire is very close, so going wider could be an issue (unless spacers are added). Also, if you have a REX, the tire width in the rear is 175 Vs 155, and there are even fewer vendor choices for those. I've found the best prices at Costco when they have Bridgestone tires on sale ($150 discount on four tires, usually multiple times a year, & right now) and Walmart had a sale on Bridgestone 155's a year ago for around $100/tire. Keep an eye out for any deals. For example, Walmart has Nokian winter tires (155/70/R19's) for $118 right now. (www.walmart.com/ip/Nokian-Hakkapeliitta-R3-Winter-155-70R19-88Q-XL-Passenger-Tire/207443848). Hope this is helpful, and thanks for watching!

    I just purchased my second i3. I had a 2016 and now 2019. The current one is doing something weird and I'm wondering if anybody else has experienced this. Every time I plug it into charge the fans in the front spool up like a jet engine spooling up it lasts for about 20 seconds and then they shut down. It will also do this randomly in the middle of charging on occasion. My 2016 never did this. Anyone else experiencing this issue? Or have any idea what's causing it.

    I really didn't understand the part about the hidden hard drive. It sounds like there's a missing part in the video? Where is the hard drive? How big is it?

    • @bmwi3diy782
      @bmwi3diy782  Год назад +1

      I probably need to clarify that better (future hidden features video?). It's part of the head unit, which for the 2014-2015 it is the NBT idrive 4, ~2016+ use the newer NBT evo versions (apple car play compatible). On my 2015, you can check the size of the hard drive by going to multimedia and pushing the 'options' button on the idrive controller- mine is 20GB. You can transfer files or backup the hard drive there also. I saw one comment that 2020 versions not longer support file saving on the hard drive, but I have not confirmed this. Thanks for the feedback!
