- An old video format recording from 1997 - but with mostly lovely sound quality (a little mains hum). Wonderful playing on the organ belonging to Marianne & Brian Billings. So instead of a huge Wurlitzer we can hear Nicholas' talent via a home-sized organ. Concludes with a tremendous version of 'The Dam Busters March'.

If I wasn't reincarnated I simply have a passion beyond understanding for 1930's music on theater organ, namely Conn Theatre Organ. I was given a Lowrey Stardust recently. I still have to pick it up, but as I listen to this Conn Martinique, well I wish it were a Conn Theatre Organ. Or better yet, a Rodgers. This week there is a dreamy 1966 custom built Rodgers 3 manual Theater organ with 2 Rodgers speaker and one or two Leslie speakers in Carson City Nevada they are essentially giving away! It's on e b a y.
As it is, I do have a 1958 Conn Classic 815 with excellent tone. It's a bit of a maintenance headache, but at least tube organs are a piece of cake to troubleshoot. I'll probably try to find a good sampled Rodgers Theater organ and just MIDI it to the Lowrey Stardust. If it was the next model in line, the Lowrey Prestige, well it has excellent theater tone, as basically the Stardust is what Windows 98 is to Windows XP. Night and day for realism. That said, these days MIDI modules are cheap. I do tend to like Analog Electronic Theater Organ almost more than Hauptwerk sampled pipes. It's odd, but I like the Tone + Animation of individual transistor oscillators with induction coils. Rodgers perfected electronic theater organ tone IMHO.

Amazing that Conn organ company had the attacks perfect and even though not digital sampling, but analog that it sounds so close to the real pipe theater organ.

What a great evening of entertainment. I remember, many years ago attending weekly organ club. 3m organ club in Essex. Sadly, the organ which was once so popular has now all but disappeared. Very nice trio of organs there though. Have a few myself and occasionally have a chance to "rescue" another to add to collection!

Many thanks for your kind remarks Bob. As far as I recall, we shot this on Hi-Band Umatic tape, so generation loss in the editing was inevitable. The 'Dam Busters' was shot twice and edited together - it almost worked! For the music a borrowed Neumann U87 mic was used......Season's Greetings to you.
I don't have the lift, but I do have 5 ranks of real pipes combined with pipe samples. It is the love of my life!

Nicholas Martin in 1997? That's 26 years ago. I took lessons on a three-manual Conn 652 in Minnesota, USA.

Hi, what kind of speaker system does the organ have? External Leslie's, pipes, etc?
Hi, as far as I remember there were no external Leslie's or pipes. Could the Leslie's have been built in?
On this video it's definitely internal speakers and of course an internal Leslie speaker as well, but there definitely is a port for an external Leslie as well. This is a fantastic instrument to say the least. Conn is amazing.
@@johanbrand8601 - I've just had a slightly smaller Conn rebuilt and I'm as happy as a cat with a bowl of cream. I've played many Wurlitzer theatre pipe organs over the years and my model 554 can be registered to give much the same sounds.
@@johnferguson4089 I've always wanted to see and hear a Conn organ. Never had the privilege before. You have one amazing instrument there. My mother was organist on a Conn Theatrette 552 for a long time, but I can't remember it because I was too young. So it's sentimental reasons why I love the Conn so much...it would be fantastic if you could upload some videos on RUclips of your gem, especially playing church hymns, as for this is the reason I love Conn, because it was in the church where I was when I was a toddler.
@@johanbrand8601 - Hi Johnny, thank you for your request. I hope to do just what you ask in the near future, I just have to perfect the editing of the same first. Yes, the Conn organs are great, I've had several and play a Conn 650 at my church. Way back in the day I was a foundation member of our local Conn Club and have many happy memories. The 554 that I have here has a very useful stop list and it was the successor to the "Theatrette" models.

I, on the other hand, would LOVE them as neighbours!
I have now have a huge elecctronic organ with 16 speakers in my house. Before that I had a real pipe theatre organ...and i've never had any complaints from the neighbors.
