Thanks a thousand bro, just saved me a tow home and a lot of headaches I’m sure and possibly much money! I hope someone helps you out today as much or more than you helped me!!!!!! Be safe my man!!
Brother you saved my sister a bunch of money. She asked me to help her with her Toyota. I followed your instruction. It worked right away. God bless you brother!!
Tried jump starting, switching batteries with a known good one, checked fuses, Nothing worked, saw your video and it works now. Thank you very much, saved me more hours of troubleshooting.
@@jrdini77 At the end it was a failed bushing that held the shift cable to the shifter. Fix was a 3/8" e-clip to hold the cable to the shifter. But without your video, I would have never checked the neutral switch and the cable. Thanks again.
Happened to me today--well maintained car, but all of a sudden, no crank, no start. Somehow jiggled the fuses and the key and it started, but will use this procedure from now on. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!
A tip from other youtube video is if the dashboard lights don't dim while trying to crank (as seen here) then there is an issue with safety or ignition switches. If the cluster lights cuts off while trying to crank then it is most likely the starter. Shifting the switch itself is pointless if the link is disconnected. There is a condition where the switch itself will malfunction and needs to be replaced and car won't crank.

You just saved my day. I literally just got the radiator and thermostat replaced and I got stranded after picking up my pizza. I walked home ate my pizza and searched and found your video. Walked back to the car and tried this and Wala! Thank you for making this video you are a hero!
I did this thinking it fixed my 2006 Toyota Corolla. But I should have test driven it after resetting. All I did was crank it, thinking the problem was solved. So the problem wasn't actually the Neutral Safety Switch. Not fully. The problem was the shift link assembly had become disconnected from my shifter. Causing the Neutral Safety switch to trip. Previous car owner had previously tried to do a half assed job of fixing it and it finally fell apart, leading that to tripping the neutral safety switch. The tow truck driver did a patch job repair in 5 minutes with a zip tie so I could drive it home. But said I should get it permanently fixed at a garage. Turns out they actually sell kits to fix the problem permanently. So bought one and will be fixing it permanently when I get the repair kit. Look for Automatic Shifter Bushing Kit on eBay.
i need to upload my video of the shifter fix that cost me .65 cents i believe it was 3/8 E clamp from home depot that clamped to the missing plastic piece the the shifter with a tight squeeze of a pliers to close the gap smaller.

You can also move gear to N then start vehicle.. The neutral safety switch is there to prevent car from starting on any gear except P and N. It is a safety mechanism..
yes you are right. but this is when the shifter puts the switch out of wack and it is put into gear preventing the car to start. thank you for your info John.👍
Thank you for the video I also saw the second video part two I have a question I have a 2004 Toyota Corolla my problem is that sometimes it will not crank I will keep trying then it starts help please.
@@josenieves7185 what about your battery sometime the cells in the battery goes bad and doesn't have enough juice to crank the starter until the bad cell gets enough power. try checking your battery you can take to a parts store and have then run a test.
Ok so the safety switch on mine is all the way to the right as pictured in your video. But when I tried to turn the nut it just loosened the nut and the safety switch did not move. What am I doing wrong?
Hello.. Hi.. Howdy.. Put the key in the drivers door with the window rolled down reach inside and lock all doors.. now turn the key in the door to the unlock position and hold it there for 15 or more seconds.. now turn the key in the door to the lock position for 15 seconds or more. Now open the door and get in.. put your foot on the brake and hold it while you turn the ignition to the on position without starting the vehicle.. now there is a trip/odemeter reset button in the dash cluster.. make sure it is set to Trip and not complete vehicle mileage.. turn the key back off when it is set on Trip.. with the key off hold the trip reset button in the dash instrument cluster and turn the key into the on position but do not start the vehicle.. hold for 30 or more seconds (all this time you should have been holding the brake pedal down normally).. now turn the key back off and release the button in the instrument cluster.. note.. do not release the trip reset button until the key is in the off position. All security "engine immobilization" "anti-theft" and even engine maintenance warnings have now been reset. Take the key out of the ignotion. The anti theft light in the dash instrument cluster should blink slowly when the key is not in the ignition. Now insert the key back into the ignition and turn it to the on position without starting the vehicle.. wiggle the steering wheel to make sure it is not caught in a bind as this will prevent the key from performing as it should. With the key in the ignition wait 10 minutes and turn it off and leave the key in the ignition In the off position (this is a lightweight ecm/key program.. make sure all keys that will be used with the vehicle are in the area of the driver when all of this is performed.) After waiting 5 minutes with the key In the ignition and the position of the key being off. . Try to start your vehicle. If you get a no crank or no start there is one more thing you can do.. (never remove remove a battery cable with the key in the ignition) under the drivers side dash board, located in the vicinity of the steering column will be a white plug with 16 pin holes in the end of it.. you will need a paper clip or a short piece of wire to do a hard reset of the ecm/ecu/engine immobilization security feature. The white plug has a shape that only allows it to be plugged Into something one way.. it also has also feature on it that locks together with anything you plug into it.. looks like a small hump about a quarter of an inch long in the middle of one long side of the plug.. hold the plug with that hump facing down. . 8 pins across the top and 8 pins across the bottom. In the top row count over 4 pin holes and in the bottom row count over 5 pin holes.. these are the holes that you will place the paperclip or wire into while the Ignition is off. If looking a diagram it's pins 4/13.. now with the paper clip in the top row #4 pinhole and in the bottom row #5 pinhole.. turn the Ignition on for a few minutes (do not hold the paperclip and make sure it doesn't touch metal) after a few minutes turn the Ignition off and remove the paperclip. Ecm/ecu and engine immobilizer has now been Hard Reset. If the vehicle still does not start.. make sure your insurance policy Is up to date and roll, drag, push the vehicle into the river lol no I'm just kidding.. maybe ha! Seriously though geez.. OK a door lock actuator may be the problem. Check to make sure all doors lock. If not replace the actuator for that door. Start from the top of this list again and at the end of It if the vehicle still does not start.. try putting the gear shifter into neutral while holding the brakes and try to start the vehicle in neutral.. if it starts in neutral it means you have have a bad neutral switch located near the gear shifter or on/in the transmission. The last thing you want to do is disconnect the battery and let it sit over night.. but if you do that.. you will have to perform all of the above plus.. another set of tricks to reset the TPS (throttle position sensor.). I'm not even gonna go there.. OK OK I will geez lol reconnect battery. Sit in drivers seat. With the key out of the ignition press the gas pedal all the way down and release it. Now insert the key and turn it to the on position with out starting the vehicle. Now leave the key on and very.. very very slowly.. slower! Very slowly press the gas pedal all the way to the floor.. slowly I said dang.. lol :) hold it to the floor for just a few seconds and then slowly.. very.. very.. slowly release the gas pedal.. Slower!!! Slowly.. oh yeah.. that's it.. Mommy likes It like that lol once the gas pedal reaches the top remove your big Ole foot and no turn the ignition off. Wait 5 minutes. The throttle position sensor (TPS) had now been reprogrammed in the ECM/ECU. Try to start the vehicle. If it doesn't start don't ask me what to do.. I'm just a 24 year old girl lol hope it helps someone tho.. "p.s. Question. I need to try this tomorrow. Can you see the if it’s in neutral or should I just tweak it once to the left. I don’t want to fk it up. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to see the gears in the bright sun tomorrow
Question: did you replace the Neutral Safety Switch or just adjust the existing one? You mentioned the cost of the part towards the end of the video, but looks like you only turned the existing one a little bit.
For context: I had all 4 struts done at a local mechanic a few days ago. Was able to drive my Fiancee’s 2005 Corolla home fine, but has not been able to crank or start since then. Jump starting the battery didn’t work. Same symptoms: All fuses look fine. Accessories like windows + dash cluster work fine.
I did replace the switch but probably didn't have to. I have a part 2 to this video at the shifter check it out. the part cost for the fix is around .75 cents at home depot
I'm trying to understand how you put the transmission in neutral with the cable still attached, couldn't you just put the shifter in neutral and do the same thing?
yes you can but thats why your car may not be starting. the switch gets stuck or the cable link in the shifter is loose and your car cant be put in to the park position. keeping you car in gear and not in park or neutral. in the first video I show where the switch is and where you need to apply the wrench to move the switch into the park position then i have a 2nd video check that out but with the cable attached it doesn't matter if the cable is still attached. just move the switch.
Hello, I have a similar issue I believe as I accidentally pulled too hard on it when replacing my transmission cable bushing nearest to the shifter. Do you think me pulling on the cable can be the cause of the NSS being off?
@@jrdini77 that's actually what I was talking about, in part 2 I replaced that part but I pulled on the cable and now my car randomly won't start as if it thinks it's in reverse. Do you think it is my nss then what's unaligned?

I was so lost and worried... but man when I came across your video.. and it Actually WORKED, I just had to leave this comment! Thank you so much man, Thank you!
I do food delivery and after many stops and start sometimes the car will not start-no crank, I must have a jump to start the car, I noticed this happens after I shut down the car a few times and start again, I have to keep my car on and not shut it off or it will not start during my deliveries. I have changed the alternator, battery and tested both are good and it continues with the issues, I think it’s something overheating. The car starts only if I jump it or let it cool down for a while. Any idea what it can be
yes it would but finding the neutral position is a little difficult. you can always do the process of elimination by moving the switch. i would check out my part 2 video.
Think this is something i need to do... i changed battery, starter, fuses, relays, ignition switch, and nothing so far.. crossing my figures this fixes the issue as well on my car
This worked for me multiple times now, but after the last time I did this now my gear stick is lose and doesn't bring it into any of the gears. I have to use the wrench on the neutral safety switch to put into, P, R, N, or D. Any idea what broke?
@@jrdini77 yeah I'm pretty sure my switch is bad. It was only starting in neutral and now it won't start in either park or neutral. I went ahead and ordered the new switch. I tried taking off the old switch earlier. I'm having a hard time getting the old switch off the thing that connects it to the transmission. Gonna try some wd40.
@@jrdini77 yeah Ive seen that and that helped me get the cable back on so I can use the shifter, but now it doesn't even start in neutral so I'm going to replace the neutral safety switch.
I have a second or part 2 video that might work. feel the shifter if it shifts loose it might be the shifter pin in my part 2. or just a starter issue. but do your research. good luck
I have the no crank no start problem.. pulled and tested the relay.. I did this (thank you for finding it!!) but that didn't do it either.. tried to jump the starter , no go.. but trying something else in a minute.. I think the sucka is dead.

Im stuck currently because of something similar. My battery died and I needed to make access to another vehicle to get a jump so i put it in neutral and rolled it back maybe 10 feet. Tried to jump it and then nothing happened, no crank no start no relays clicking. I hope like hell this helps in the mornin
My car has accidents but just broke the door. After that my father still drive go home. And then some day has big rain. I come to start my car but it doesn’t work. I have to take off battery to clean up and put it back and start again but it don’t work too. Can u help me? the same your car 2007 toyota corolla
Will try mine but not all the light show on the dash board. The only lights showed are the oil light and seatbelt light but it is no crank no start situation.
the shifter switch/ shifter needs to be in park you can play with the switch and count the clicks i believe park is to the far left when looking at the switch from the front of the car

You turn it to the left or right?
Great video! Worked like magic! But do you have any ideas as for how that works with manual tranny?
Sorry I haven't worked on one yet
A humongous THANK YOU!
your welcome. awesome it worked out for you
Thank you so much
Awesome! Thank you 🙏
you're welcome. I'm glad it worked out for you
You, my friend are a fucking God Send! Thank you so much for this video! I’ve had my Toyota Corolla 2007 since day one and I NEVER once had this issues. I was so lost and worried... but man when I came across your video.. and it Actually WORKED, I just had to leave this comment! Thank you so much man, Thank you!
does this only apply to automatics?
I do food delivery and after many stops and start sometimes the car will not start-no crank, I must have a jump to start the car, I noticed this happens after I shut down the car a few times and start again, I have to keep my car on and not shut it off or it will not start during my deliveries.
I have changed the alternator, battery and tested both are good and it continues with the issues, I think it’s something overheating.
The car starts only if I jump it or let it cool down for a while.
Any idea what it can be
Fuel Injectors
I was just wondering
the little arrow has to be right in the middle because I tried it but it didn’t work ?
I believe so also check out the part 2. also could be the shifter
If this is the problem, would it be able to start in neutral?
yes it would but finding the neutral position is a little difficult. you can always do the process of elimination by moving the switch. i would check out my part 2 video.
Think this is something i need to do... i changed battery, starter, fuses, relays, ignition switch, and nothing so far.. crossing my figures this fixes the issue as well on my car
I do hope so. good luck
Thank you so much for the video, it saved me today.
thank you for viewing my video. I am glad it helped you out.
Excellent video!!
thanks
hope it helped. I forgot to upload the install
Great thanks alot
This worked for me multiple times now, but after the last time I did this now my gear stick is lose and doesn't bring it into any of the gears. I have to use the wrench on the neutral safety switch to put into, P, R, N, or D. Any idea what broke?
Fixed it. ruclips.net/video/6ncPsF5g9bk/видео.html
could be the switch its self. I had to replace it about 2 months ago
@@charlesdiamonte3886
try checking out my video 2. see if that helps
@@jrdini77 yeah Ive seen that and that helped me get the cable back on so I can use the shifter, but now it doesn't even start in neutral so I'm going to replace the neutral safety switch.
Did you make a video when you replaced it?
no i didnt but its simple. unclip the connector and 10 mm bolt i believe and replace the new one. I should do a video
How do I know if it's in neutral position? I can't really read the labeling on the switch.
Not for sure. its been a while that i have been under the hood of this car. Im thinking it was about the 12 or 1 o'clock position
Is the shifter supposed to be in neutral or something?
yes
What if you dont see that black needle above the nut on the neutral safety switch? Like it looks broken...pls help
try looking at my 2nd video that may help
Not exactly the problem but this piece not engaging is my problem thank you so much
no problem I have a part 2 that showed the shifter piece.
Trying to do what you did in the video still not starting do you think mine is totally gone out
I have a second or part 2 video that might work. feel the shifter if it shifts loose it might be the shifter pin in my part 2. or just a starter issue. but do your research. good luck
I have the no crank no start problem.. pulled and tested the relay.. I did this (thank you for finding it!!) but that didn't do it either..
tried to jump the starter , no go.. but trying something else in a minute.. I think the sucka is dead.
Douglas Scott does yourcar switch outta park?
@@duramax78 yes, it was actually driven just 2 weeks ago.. I have checked everything else ,relays, fuses, made sure it was in park, brake pushed. ..
The new starter has been delivered and It will be installed next week..
Douglas Scott because I have no starting issue but my car won’t shift outta park I gotta rock the car to get it outta park.
Im stuck currently because of something similar. My battery died and I needed to make access to another vehicle to get a jump so i put it in neutral and rolled it back maybe 10 feet. Tried to jump it and then nothing happened, no crank no start no relays clicking. I hope like hell this helps in the mornin
good luck. I hope its a simple fix.
@@jrdini77 I'm going to try what you did. Because the symptoms seem to be the same.
thanx u verry much
your welcome
It really did start my car
indonesia... thanks i subscribe like this video .. 5 mount my camry death.. thanks brother
How does it move or get off of the 'neutral position'? What if it's the starter, how do you tell?
you can try to jump the starter there are videos on how to do that
I had the same exact issue but this didn't fix it, any suggestions please!!
did you check part 2.
My car has accidents but just broke the door. After that my father still drive go home. And then some day has big rain. I come to start my car but it doesn’t work. I have to take off battery to clean up and put it back and start again but it don’t work too. Can u help me? the same your car 2007 toyota corolla
What exactly are u doing. Are u turning that bolt loose. I tried this but it u turn it the bolt gets loose.
no it only turns thru the gears if you turn it and it is loosening you are turning it to much.
gracias amigo
Thank you very much! That was an easy fix.
right on glad this helped you . be safe
was this a automatic or manual Toyota????????????????????
this car is an automatic in the video
Will try mine but not all the light show on the dash board. The only lights showed are the oil light and seatbelt light but it is no crank no start situation.
Daughter's 06 corolla s, no crank, no start. Clutch feels sticky 🤞
hey this happened to me . what caused it? and thank you.
sometimes it the shifters plastic clip that brakes and the shifter wont put the car in park mode. see my part 2 video
How about the shift, you must also put that in neutral position!?
the shifter switch/ shifter needs to be in park you can play with the switch and count the clicks i believe park is to the far left when looking at the switch from the front of the car
@@jrdini77 Thank you!
My car is manual transmission with same problem but it happens intermittently what are the possibilities ? Thanks
StayWoke it was the starter .. replaced it and it started normally
Corolla 2006 make?
I fucking love youtube thanks sir
your welcome
How about for manual transmissions ?
See if there is a safety switch attached to the clutch pedal under the dash. My very old 4 speed celica had a switch there.
