How to Sing High without Strain - 3 of 3

- Опубликовано: 12 авг 2024
- Thank you so much for joining me today for part three of how to sing high without strain. So let's just do a really quick recap shall we. In part one we learned a little bit about what limits the voice especially when it comes to high notes and that is the lack of resonating space which we addressed by aiming our air. And number two is the influence of the tongue the jaw in the back of the throat. So we alleviated that influenced by learning how to relax those things as we sing some high notes. Number two we learned that the higher area of our range is the release for the entire mechanism. So we have to feel those notes a little differently than we would the lower notes. So we did that playfully and we did that speech like by just releasing voice. Now today we're going to allow those things to come together as we create quality power through resistance. So if you like today's video please be sure to give it a thumbs up or click that subscribe below. I love you so much and I would love to see you here more often. So what is resistance now otherwise known as in planning level Ching. So we create a little bit of a stabilizing force with the voice as we create resistance so let's just let's just look at the science aspect of it. When we create any sort of sound especially higher notes there's a considerable contraction from the diaphragm right as the Air flies up through the body. So not only that but the notes themselves are really high frequency notes a very fast moving. So we've got to be able to hold open the body especially around the throat as those higher velocity notes make their way out into time and space. So we do this by creating that nice open vocal tract a way to feel that is just simply too young with me so young with me. Homer Can you feel that widening of that space and you're just suspending that just a little bit for sensation harm. Very good. Now hold it open sonnie. Excellent excellent so we're gonna take this a step further by imagining a elevator an elevator goes up because there is a counterweight going down that's how that whole mechanism works. Police and police. So we're going to think down into our body so that we can experience the fullness of the release of that note. So point toward yourself and as you saw. I just want you to draw a line down your body so feel it open good Can you feel that you are concentrated on going down into your body as that note was able to fly up that is the paradox of singing high fly so funky but we're going to keep thinking about our body keep staying with our body hold it open very superhero like your little open. Excellent one more time on hold open sign wonderful. Now we're gonna put this to a vocal exercise when that vain thing and we're gonna say the word e now there's this word it gives me a little bit of the heebie jeebies but phonetically it allows us to feel this very clearly so it gives us a nice frame of reference for that sensation so say for me. Can you feel that widening of the vocal tract as the note goes up you have go yeah. Now we don't have to say that whole word again it's really creepy. So we're just gonna say ye lucky sergeant here but I do want you to stay focused right here pointing at yourself and as you go for the higher note you swing for the higher not I want you to draw a line down. Now guys I know you're watching too so you can drop this down an octave into an area of your voice where it feels nice and easy peasy for you so we'll go and just feel that your mind is staying focused on going down into your body as that note goes out you ready. See me he follow not just don't intervene just for a second. Just like you don't worry about it. You don't even have to hold it up when you feel you. OK. Go down go down to your body. What you. Well that's how I go. You owe you do a good job. Very good. Now I should say that it's simple in theory really. And I think it is quite simple in application but move at a pace that feels very easy for you. Experiment with this play with this. Now that you have the information of the why. Look why this works by holding your body open creating that stabilizing force so that energized air can make its way out. And then we have the how of used just to experiment with this play with this. Now I will offer you this. We made almost a quarter ago to a and low of a sound. Yes we did. We want to make obvious for those muscles so they can get a nice solid consistent picture of what this feels like. We want to train those muscles to behave in ways that reveal right that are open rather than collapsed and concealing. So as you experiment with this as you play with this once you get a frame of reference for this behavior and it begins to happen on its own then you can modify the tone quality to something more befitting of your style and your taste. OK. So guys thank you so much for playing with me today.
The magic of Madeleine lies in after you do her lesson. After doing this lesson, I went to sing separate lives and I was like wh..wh..what? Who was that? Where did that voice come from? I couldn't believe it was me. Just do her lessons exactly the way she teaches, go back and work on lessons with her in areas you are not sure of, and be gentle on your voice. She really is the best teacher. Thank you for your work Madeleine.
She’s not lying. After doing her lessons I do notice my voice sounds better. It’s the muscle memory she talks about!
Your tutorials are the best in RUclips,
Ur voice lessons are sooo good helped me a lot with my singing
Would really love to see videos on HARMONISING any one else agrees 👇

ohh yes i would love that
4:40 daily exercise.

Brilliant thanks❤
Madeleine, I have learned so much from you and your teaching style. I sing in my local church and I was told that my singing has really improved over the last 6 months. Thank you for offering yourself and your service freely! Since I've been watching every week I keep getting commercials that are trying to get me to buy into their vocal training programs, but I have to say I love your videos because I can really sense your sincerity and desire to teach people. Thank you so much again! I'll be sticking with you!
You are so kind fun and selfless to share this with me and anyone with a passion for singing. I've met so many who did not even give me an inch of how to better my voice when they were in that teaching position. Maybe I wasn't ready but it breaks open deep wounds of my heart that I'm getting to learn these paradox of singing. What you have chosen to do and share is bigger then you will ever know. God is so pleased with you...I just know it! Oh and Thank-you again.
I have always struggled with high notes and i think this video will be very helpful
Thank you for the 3 lessons. I am now 72 and have enjoyed singing all my life. I've been in bands, choirs, play guitar and sing at weddings here etc but never had any formal training. I have just found a singing coach here in Italy where I now live. Like you she has a masterful control of her voice. My intention is to improve my range and technique. She told me I have a good voice but I'm only using 10% of it. So between us we have a lot of work to do but I'm confident we'll get there.
Un abbraccio dall'Italia
IDF.
This is my favorite exercise out of the 3 parts! I've been doing your videos almost everyday for about a week, and i can already hit that last high note better than last week!!
This lesson helped me to sing John Legend's, All of Me with a nice "high note" touch. Thanks Madeleine
This was the most helpful video I’ve ever watched in my whole life..like not just singing..just anything! I can’t velueve the difference I can hear in my voice with one video!!
I LOVED this! This whole 3 part series is absolutely life changing for a professional musician like myself who is trying to get his voice back on the ground after a couple vocal surgeries. THANK YOU.
Note - I just did the 3 parts back to back and each one ACTUALLY worked and by the end I was singing awesome full voice high notes (well, with appropriate mix). THANK YOU!!
I couldn't understanding why my high notes and whistle notes caused so much tension in my neck muscles and this exercise took that tension away, but wow what a work out for my body.
You deserve a million fucking subscribers, you just prove that the wackiest and most unconventional methods can work so much better than the normal and boring ones. Please continue staying true to yourself, you’re helping so many people ❤️❤️

Madeline, your lessons are magic!
I'm so grateful to have you here
Madeline, is there a way you can make a tutorial video that shows us how to transfer these techniques to other singing styles, like pop? you mentioned in the end of the video that this is an operatic style - and my voice can do it in this style - but I have difficulty transitioning these techniques to singing other songs.
Thanks Madeleine. As usual a great tutorial. Greetings from Australia.

Hey! I have a problem. Could you help me somehow? Before live performaces I remember the lyrics of song perfectly but when I have to perform I forget lyrics. And after performance I can rember the lyrics. I can say that to me it's not problem to perform cos I love it and I'm not afraid of showing my singing to the others but because of my problem I'm really stressed before performances. How can I fix that?
I hope you'll respond me 💖
Its still stage fright and probably consciously or subconsciously you are aftaid of failure. I have the same problem plus the high notes lol
love your videos! cant get enough
Incredibly helpful
Madeleine! Your way of teaching is so clear and easy to understand! I do have a question: what are your thoughts on the Appoggio breathing technique?
i could not love and gives this video thumbs up more and and and i would like to subscribe this channel x100 maybe for infinity
These are slider exercises..... keep going you’re we’re headed towards whistle register!
Your so articulate!
Hi Madeleine! Great exercises! According to this I would ask for an exersice which combines this open and wide sound with the metal twang belting sound. This combination is very difficult but sounds great is my opinion. Pleast let me know. Thanks. Bettina.
THANK YOU FOR THIS SERIES!! I've been struggling with high notes even though I naturally have a high speaking voice so I was so confused haha.
Currently I'm stuck at A6 and just can't figure out how to go any higher.
Any tips on being able to expand my range to E6? (Really wanting to hit that high note in Phantom of the Opera 😅)
I've started saying "yeeeesh" so my housemates don't have to hear me operatically repeat "yeeeaaast" so often, haha
I am in love😭💘
amazing teacher!!
You are so coooool
Love it
i swear this made me sleepy 😅
These videos help me so much! Thank you for sharing as always! My vocal cords don't close good, standard. Any tips?

My cat was not happy with me doing this lol. Seriously though, this was so so helpful!
What am I meant to do if my voice doesn't feel open and it cracks all the time??
This was just a great lesson.. also can you please tell me what's your voice type? Just curious 😉❤️👍
Mam can u plzz make a video on whistle voice?? 🥺🥺🥺
is it bad that I can't stay in my chest voice through out this? I can project in my head voice but I really struggle with getting between the two..
Thank you so much for this series Madeleine, Oh and you have to tell me how you can look like a twenty year old with th knowledge and wisdom of someone much much older. :)
Hi ! My dream is to learn how to sing well, but I’m broke 😅 so I try everyday learning on RUclips with different exercices and videos but honestly when I record myself I’m not able to say if I’m improving or not... I can’t recognize my weak points... And I really want to sing I love singing but I don’t like the sound of my voice...
Can anybody give me any advice ? Any steps I should follow ? Where should I start ? Should I seriously invest in a vocal coach ?
Have an amazing day 🌟
Yes, I am getting the cat's attention 🤣!
I'm ashamed to hit high notes at home, because my family will make fun of me after that. So I usually sing with a lot of strain, which sucks. I don't even know if it's about straining or I just naturally sound like a dying whale.
Could you make a video that takes this to the next step: singing actual words. I find I have a hard time applying vocal techniques to full songs. It feels like a big leap.
i went from here 🤏 to ☝️ because of you so tysm
04:23
Lol, I am a guy and I stayed in the upper octave anyway :)))
OMG!!!! From all the comments I've read below I think I'm the only man.. Am I in the wrong place?
😱😱😱😱😱😱😱😱
The fake yawn made me yawn im watching this at night lol
Madeleine , exactly how many time do I have to do this before I can sing?🤔 ...... Lol I’m kidding!
You guys are total liars. Andrea Salinas is an amazing human. She has my vote.
