This is a perfect idea for a man cave. If I replace the double glazing window with partially transparent mirror with an LED strip along the inside, then the window will have a similar effect while allowing to see out of it. The window will let less light in, but that's perfect for a man cave!

What if you put a small infinity mirror in between the layers of the second infinity mirror, and then tilted it?
Try adding a vibrating speaker to it the light should pulsate the beat.
Try making one with 2 tubes of different diameters ( example: 3"O.D. on inner tube & 5" O.D. on outter tube or 5" & 7" / 7" & 9" etc. ) so that the space/void between the tubes is around 1 inch to get a deeper effect.

I made one of theese where the regular mirror part was done with a mirror film. And there is a small gap of air between that mirror film and the back of the housing that I glued to be air tight. installed a large syringe hooked up to a tiny linear actuator so that I can force air in and out if this chamber which causes the mirror film to go concave too convex. it's really really cool but I didn't get it completely air tight so it only holds the pressure for a few seconds before it just equalizes and go flat. ...one day I'll find the motivation to fix it.

You could use this to make a Fabry-Perot etalon inteferometer.... would be cool to see the inteference pattern of a laser source.

could you imagine this as a giant arcade game screen for like some starship racing or something along those lines?
i don't know if it would show on camera very well but replacing one side on a subwoofer with this bendy plastic would make it vibrate and make interesting shapes. as some frequencies it might even stabilize and create shapes similar to the shapes they got when the wrapped a speaker with a cloth and place some sand on top. should be an interesting experiment to do.
Multi-layer infinity mirrors with creativity applied to the differences in lighting between each layer. I'd guess there would be a ton of different ways to make the effect less pattern-like this way and that opens up a bunch of different artwork possibilities!
You posted this a while ago, but I'm interested in seeing different deformed shapes, like if you clamp it in a frame that makes the a ripple along the edge so that there are say three bumps bending in each direction. I've also been wondering what it would look like if you used two spherical mirrors. Great video. Not a lot of people experimenting with these. Thank you!
That would be interesting to try. Deforming the surface can give some interesting results. I'll have to try some things to see what happens. Thanks for the idea!
@@HowDoYouDIY I found your video because I was searching for "Curved Infinity Mirror". I saw a video where a guy built a small table and made it look like a shaft you climb down. He had a small ladder and a single light bulb inside the box. I was thinking it would be awesome to do a full length mirror so it looks like a doorway, and have it look like a mineshaft tunnel, but also having it curve so it looks like you'd have to walk around a bend. (If you were in the tunnel).
That would look cool! To get that effect where it looks like the tunnel is turning, you would just need to have more space between the mirrors on one side.

My suggestion for new feature - 4:36 - 4:42 - What if we stick the bottom panel to an eccentric shaft and couple this shaft with a high torque (less rpm) DC Motor.. then basically we can get a continuous motion of exactly what you did with your hands from 4:36 - 4:42
Would look cool af for a desktop piece. Can also switch off the DC motor when not needed.. ;)

That would look amazing! I've been thinking about that myself. Drill a home in the center of the back panel to bolt it to the shaft. Then instead of using tint on the back panel, use a chrome vinyl. Then if the cycling of the mirror is just right it would look like it's breathing. And color changing lights with an Arduino so that the colors cycle to match the"breathing". I love your idea!

and is it possible to mount the LED's on something rounded and use two row's of LED's to get the light beams into the mirrors?
What happens if you put an object in between the glass panels? Does the object become "infinity" as well? And does thicker glass yield greater results?
I've seen some videos from other people that put things between the panels, and they do seem to give some infinity effect. As far as the thickness of the glass, it depends more on the distance between reflecting surfaces. The more distance between reflections will result in a deeper effect, even with the same number of reflections. So if the reflecting surface is on the outside of the glass it will look deeper with thicker glass.
Do you think there is any kind of way to motorize that warping effect? Would make for an even cooler (and harder [lol]) project

You could have 2 strips of LEDs and have them alternate. That should make a "moving" effect.

Wonder what it would look like if the regular mirrored side was not flat but slight concave or ?? Also maybe have a tiered light set up. Maybe 2 or 3 rows of lights and option of cycling or something.
Those are great ideas to explore! I haven't thought of using a concave mirror, but I bet to would with good. And having more than one row of lights could allow some awesome effects!
Looks like it's a super sci fi communication device. I think if you try to play with some lasers, you can create rudimentary and then human figures. That would revolutionize everything that exists on the market today: D. What you did here seems to me closer to hologram.
Use a sheet of reflective balloon material for the back mirror and use + and - air pressure inside the infinity mirror to control it :)

What about the glass of a bottle, or lens of glasses. I wonder how they would look if magnified or weird looking after seeing glasses lens big enough to create an infinity mirror or glass bottle infinity mirror.

Cool. Want to actually use an infinity mirror as a bathroom mirror too. Like to brush my teeth. Is this possible, or is it inevitably too dark in the middle to be functional for every day use?
From what I've seen, a lot of partially reflective layers seem to be a bit darker than regular mirrors. I recommend looking for some that's rated as a silver color. Here is a link to one that looks like it should be good for a mirror, but I haven't tried it myself:

I'd like to see what it looks like if the LED strip is not a 2D circle but actually 1 loop of a helix, so the starting point is lower than the end point. Will it make the mirror appear to actually spiral inwards like looking through a coil spring of LEDs instead of appearing to have multiple parallel layers?
That would look awesome, and I have thought about that same layout a lot. Unfortunately it wouldn't make a perfect spiral. When it gets to the end on the physical spiral strip, the mirror would reflect it. Instead of continuing the spiral it would make the spiral reverse. It would still look cool though. Especially if there were a few loops in the spiral.
@@HowDoYouDIY Oh damn you're right. I really wanted to get a spiral wormhole type effect. I guess the next best thing is maybe make two spirals spinning in opposite directions, so when they reflect they complete each other? I can't picture it in my head...

Could you use a heat gun to deform the top mirror? My first thought is it might destroy the mirror film. If it does not destroy it the film the result would be a cool deformed portal shape. Great for Cthulhu and friends come a knocking!!!
You could use a heat gun, that should work pretty well. Just add the film after it's shaped.
use your double effect but put ACRYLIC BLOCK in the middle ..this will light up and create a infinity block effect ..
BUT ADD LED lights inside the walls of the acrylic block and turn it on then turn on the leds for the infinity mirror

I put the tint on the inside of the mirror, but it should also work if it's on the outside.

Have you tried using a heat gun to deform the plexiglass so as to not have to worry about cracking it?
Not yet, but I think that's the best way to do that.
How about adding a concave or convex lens?
That would look cool! I found a mirror that's concave on one side and convex on the other side to try that with.
Shaped lenses can be quite expensive. If you want to do it for cheap, you could make the edges of the mirror airtight to create a vacuum chamber, then inflate/deflate the lenses (creating the concave/convex effect)

Have you tried using a dual pane piece of glass?
I've done this with a shadow box that has 2 pieces of glass. It was very convenient because I didn't have to build much. Mostly just slightly modified it.
@@HowDoYouDIY I was just wondering how it would work out if you used dual pane glass. Because then you would get two reflections from that one piece of glass.
Oh, I see what you mean. I've added the film to both sides of a single pane, but not a dual pane. Could be interesting to try. 🤔
@@HowDoYouDIY I bought some "Mirror Tint" on Amazon. I don't think it's going to work out too good. It's not very reflective. Even with bright ambient light hitting the mirror side, I can still see through it. And my eyesight sucks.

What happens if you mount the light on the mirror surface.
If you view it from an angle it should still give the effect somewhat, but every other row in would be blocked partially from the strip.

Yes it is acrylic with reflective film.
WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF YOU PLACED AN OBJECT BETWEEN THE MIRRORS?
I'll have to try that, but it should reflect the object over and over just like the LEDs

what about bolting the plastic with a curvature??
That would give a permanent warping to the tunnel.
And maybe experiment what happens when you bent each side in a different direction.
I think instead of bolting the curvature in place, using a heat gun to soften the plastic would make it easier to make the warp. And I love your idea of bending each side differently!

That's a good idea! Mylar would be very easy to do this with. And if it's sealed well, a little change in air pressure would make it look like it's breathing!
