    Made my own. I have 3d printer, so i created triangular insert for the strips to sit on and face 45degrees into center of box. It also makes the strips flat and uniform. I still have to cut the aluminum borders. I had my doubts about using the mirror film. But after getting the lights in and ready for final panel to go on, i cleaned all surfaces wearing gloves..and it looks great. I can 8 total retouching reflections in each window. No as good as glass mirror would have been. But it was very hard to find any and too $$$. I'll do glass for my next, larger, one. This is 7" square

      Using 3d printed inserts like that is a great idea. It looks a lot better with those than the way I did mine. Thanks for sharing your video!

      I bought the aluminum to do the outside, but i keep cutting them short lol...so i reapplied the aluminum tape to look cleaner and let it that way. The mirror film doesn't look nearly as good as 2way glass... but it's better then i thought it would be. 8 reflections is pretty good.

      Currently in the process of recreating his build for a totem. You can use a battery pack instead of a wall plug. Just have to make sure the battery pack put outs 5V and not more than 10Amps and you also have to get a DC to USB converter to plug the pack into the addressable controller.

    Hello! Thank you so much for your videos. I've been studying your builds and it inspired me to make my own cube too, but a unique twist to it where the cube will be able to hold water in it, like a tank. The obvious challenge will now be to water proof the LEDs and connections. Also, I'm thinking of bonding the clear acrylic sheets onto one another instead of inserting them into a frame, hence I will have to apply the mirror film on the outside rather than on the inside, as the film will get in the way of the acrylic bonding. Unless I cut the mirror film to exact size, and paste them exactly to where they should be.. Could you give me any advise on my plans? And how would you approach to waterproofing the strips and connections? Thank you for reading and I look forward to your reply!

    • @HowDoYouDIY
      @HowDoYouDIY  3 года назад +1

      I love it when my projects inspire people to make their own, especially when they change/improve the design!! This reply is a bit long, but let's start with the film. Putting it on the outside should work good. Just keep in mind that it will also be easier to scratch and damage over time. This may not be too big of an issue just because it would also be easy to replace. If you do want it on the inside, that's easy to do too. In my first Infinity Cube video, I glued the cube together. After I put the film on, I trimmed it a bit extra so that the acrylic was exposed for the glue to stick to (it was around 7min 25sec into this video: ruclips.net/video/tmyQh9ZPkBg/видео.html) Remember that the edges of the film don't need to be perfect because the LEDs will hide the edges. Also remember that being under water may be an issue for the long term adhesion of the film, if it's on the inside. Sealing the edges of the film with fish tank/aquatic silicone would be helpful. (Here are some examples of this silicone: amzn.to/2WTXNu1) This silicone would also be a great way to water proof the wire connections of the LEDs. I wouldn't use this silicone for holding the cube together, just waterproofing the parts.
      As far as waterproofing the LED strips, you can get waterproof strips. The links I have in the description of this video have some waterproof versions available, if you want the same strips that I used. The strips that I used are more expensive than most, just because they are RGBW instead of RGB, but waterproof RGB strips are also available. Also, you would want to seal the ends of the waterproof strips that you use, but you could do that as you seal the wire connections.
      If you have any other questions, feel free to ask. And I would love to see your version when you're done with it!

      @TobilidoT 3 года назад +1

      @@HowDoYouDIY Thank you very much for your reply! really appreciate it!
      A rough idea to of what I'm planning is to make a water reservoir for PC water cooling. I'm not exactly sure if its a good idea for the LED strip to be in the coolant even if its properly waterproofed. Which is why I have decided to take a different approach to my project by separating the tank and the mirror cube. I am excited to start on this project once my materials arrives, I do wish to share my end result with you and once again, thank you very much for your advise and reminder. Cheers!

      That's a good question. This cube can get bright, but the transparent mirror film that I used dims the overall brightness quite a bit. This doesn't give off enough light to light up a room, even a small room. I am working to convert this to a desk lamp though.
