The description of this video has links to some playlists I've made for Basic Soldering. I also added some links to help you find items that are similar to what I'm using in this video.
I’ve watched so many videos and didn’t not understand why I need flux when soldering until watching this. Thank you!!!!
I've been trying to solder with no flux for years and constantly getting annoyed at that oxide layer that often won't even melt! arrrghhh - now I finally get it. Thank you
You're welcome! Flux almost seems like magic when you first start using it.
Same, buying some liquid flux changed my life. I was doing it wrong my whole life.
Oh so my three soldering irons are not broken lol
Lol, I start soldering since 21 years ago and just know that this thing called flux is exist, I used to scratch the metal plate until it shine and solder it easy.
Same here, i thought my soldering iron had some heating issue.
0:45 is like a perfect illustration of me trying to solder.
me too
And now I know one of the reason why I suck at it 😅
bahaha same, before this video. Now I basically bathe everything in way too much flux lol
You'd think that a series of videos on basics like this wouldn't be necessary because there should be a lot already available because they're so basic, and yet, this is exactly what's needed, a _clear_ and detailed descriptive, visual explanation. 👍
Thanks! Sometimes videos can be loaded with a lot of info, even in basics videos. I'm trying to keep these videos more focused, so I'm glad that worked with this one.
Also, you DO explain (clearly), which is vitally important...otherwise the person trying to do this doesn't understand what can go wrong, and is just following blindly. @@HowDoYouDIY
Finally a good video deserve a likes and views. Not like other videos whose show their face talking for 10 min with less information.
Thanks! I was trying to keep it short but still informative.
@@HowDoYouDIY You have achieved your aims. Short, concise and to the point.
Thanks for taking the time to upload this video.
Regards from Australia
Was an electronics hobbyist decades ago and always used big, thick, flux-core solder, never giving a thought to the flux or what it did.
Now that I’ve gotten back into it, I’m using super-thin Japanese solder paired with brush-on, liquid flux. It makes soldering so easy it’s ridiculous. Also dipping my desoldering wick into right the flux bottle before using it makes it absorb solder 10x better. I’m so glad I finally figured out flux!
what s the difference between what u said and what he did on video?
Its about time someone actually put out a simple but spot video about soldering and flux,,thank you
You're welcome!
Like some of the other posters, I've been soldering with just rosin core solder and no flux other than that. Most sources I found mention about the flux cleaning properties but very few explained the wicking and how it makes the solder stick to things and flow better. Excellent video and right to the point.
Thanks! I almost made this subject as part of my Using Solder video, but decided to give flux it's own video. I'm glad I did because it's such an important part of soldering, and it was able to reach WAY more people on it's own.
This Answered all my questions about flux. Detailed clear and to the point !!!!!!!!
I'm glad it was helpful!
thanks, mate. I'm new to soldering and I bought my first flux after watching this. I already see the difference.
This video is a great introduction to soldering with flux, going much farther than a lot of videos that just say "use flux!" without any explanation as to why or what it does to the solder. Thank you!
I wish I had known to use flux earlier in my life. I had so many issues until I found out about flux. Such a great product. I appreciate the video. Hope it helps someone not to have to go through the pain of wondering why you can solder a certain joint.
It was the same for me. It's amazing how much of a difference flux makes when soldering.
Me too! I’ve thrown things away because I thought they were just impossible to solder due to age or something. Flux core solder has been the only reason I ever fixed stuff, probably. Someone told me once it was the best, but didn’t say why so I just bought it.
I just say thank you! For explaining what basically frustrated me for years!
Simple and straight to the point. Love it.
Thanks!
This video just taught me something I've been confused about for 25 years. Thank you so much.
I’ve been soldering for around 10 years now not using flux and spending time globing solder and hoping it sticks . Redid my boat trailer wiring last year and it’s going to crap already because I didn’t use marine grade wiring and connections . Tackling that project now and glad to know to use solder / flux properly . Thank you
Flux makes a huge difference helping solder to stick. But working on marine wiring, it may also be necessary to use some steel/brass wool to scrub the surface first. If there's too much corrosion, flux can have a hard time getting through it.
Wow... now I finally understood why I struggle so much with soldering.
I'm glad this video was helpful!
I’m a cabinetmaker by trade, I never knew what the purpose of flux was till now. I know why my solder joints on my Rc never held up. Excellent and informative video
I'm glad the video was helpful!
Wooow I finally get it. I’m going to order flux right now because this is the solution to the exact problem I keep having.
As a beginner making circuits and not understanding why my solder wouldn't stick, this was super super helpful. Thank you!
man thank you so much. idk why i just went into it head first with practically no knowledge. no wonder my soldering is complete garbage. your video is going to completely change that and i thank you for it
You're welcome! I think a lot of people do that and learn from trial and error. I'm glad this video has been helpful for you!
This was the most informative soldering video I’ve ever watched! I’m a welder and I’ve been doing it for 35+ years but I can’t Sauter to save my life, until now thank you.
thank you you have just explained how to do solder wires, something I have struggled with for years
I've been soldering for years and always pissed off when the solder just jumps around the wires. I can't believe it was this simple all along. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
The way you explain this to someone with zero experience like me makes me feel like I can do this.
I have always had an idea what flux was but it's nice to have it explained in detail. How and why people use it.
I'm glad you found this video helpful!
I've been doing it so wrong for so long, if only I had a teacher that would spare 3 minutes.. seriously owe you one m8
FINALLY a solder video about using flux with a demonstration! Thank you! Subbed!
You're welcome! Just being able to see the effect it has makes such big difference to help understand.
PERFECT! I don't give a Rat's A$$ that flux isn't cheap.
I NEEEEDED a Big Problem Solved & You DID that.
THANK YOU!
I'm glad it helped! It's amazing how much of a difference it makes.
Thank you for a direct, no nonsense, easy to watch and extremely educational video. Well done sir.
You make it look so easy. You are a true master. 👍 . My fist time soldering , I heard, use Flux, ? In my mind I said to myself, wtf is Flux. Thanks for the Lessons, Master .
Thanks!
This entire time I thought I was melting the board. Thank you clearing that up, I'm amazed.
I got a terrible mark on my surface mount soldering in my safety class because my board was burnt on some of the components soldered, I’m so glad I came across this video, it’s gonna save my whole career 😭
my friend recommended me to use this and he's right. It took me 5 hours to solder my electronics but it turns out I need this lol
It's amazing how much of a difference flux makes.
It’s insane how such a little flab could make such efficient performance.
4am, should be in bed. but im learning to solder better. lol. thanks. this is exactly the explanation i was looking for. No wonder soldering seemed harder when i was a kid soldering car stereo wires. I never used flux at all.
Very educational, still watching in 2023!
I bought the flux many years ago, but I didn't know how to use it. Now I get it. Thank you.
You're welcome!
never knew about the oxide layer on wires can be helped with the paste , great info there for me
Thank You very muchh!! you actually did answer the question of when to use flux and what it does...
I'm glad this video was helpful!
Thank you for explaining the principle of operation this is extremely helpful!
For the first time someone explains it well, thank you
Finally, now I can actually solder stuff. I have been down a few soldering roads but always doing it like first half your video, now I get it! Thank you! You'd a thought all these countless repairing videos would have explained like you did from the start!.
Insanely helpful for someone wanting to do some DIY soldering. Thank you
Thanks so much for the soldering tutorials! You sound very patient and kind.
Thanks for the compliment! I'm glad the videos have been helpful!
Practice is the best way to get it right, but these videos are a very welcome starting point.
I've been teaching this method to my students for years, thanks this video, to back me up!
You're welcome! When I made this video (and the others in this series) I wanted to make them quick and easy to understand. I also hoped that they could be shown in classrooms, while also leaving room for the teacher to comment and expand on what's in the video.
I was trying these days and now this information helped me a lot.... Thanks!
My guitar pick up was giving a bad humming noise..repair is expensive so I bought my own cheap soldering iron plus wire and flux.I didn't do it properly I messed up the ground wire with hot wire and more noise 😁. Even I burned my hand not that bad though. Through RUclips videos I did it right, noise is gone. I was wondering what flux do, you made it clear 👍
I had no idea about the external flux. All the little projects I do solder easy sometimes and sometimes the solder doesn't stick. This explains that. Thanks for the video.
Great video, no fluff, very informative.
I think the number 1 mistake beginners make when learning to solder is not understanding flux.
1) You need to use flux because it makes the solder stick and flow properly.
2) You need to clean the flux because once it's burned any further attempt at soldering that area will fail because it's contaminated. So clean, reapply, resolder.
I agree, using flux is one thing that makes a world of difference, but it's often overlooked when people are learning. And as far as cleaning off the residue, I didn't spend much time in the video explaining that. Thanks for sharing this info!!
For years I've been trying to solder and I was convinced I just sucked at it but I just found my father's old brazing stuff and found an extremely old tin of "NOKORODE Soldering Paste" and I'll be darned if soldering didn't just become incredibly easy LOL. Tomorrow I will be teaching my son's to solder and explaining the importance of flux.
Ha! You read my mind. My video stopped and I thought it was over, but I had a question about cleaning up the flux. Then I saw your video wasn’t over and you literally answered my question when I hit play. It felt like you changed the video because I asked, and I thought my brain lesions were acting up.
Wow man. Great video. Great visual. Using flux from now on.
That's awesome 😎
Flux makes such a big difference, it almost seems like magic sometimes.
Great video; super informative and straight to the point without a bunch of fluff. TY
Thank you so much! I am ordering some Flux right away
Beautifully explained.
Simple and straight to the point.
Thanks!
You made my day Today after I ditched my head all around the walls of my room.
Basically told me what I need to know so now I can build on that and refine this so I understand & put it into practice and hopefully get better with each time..Thanks mate.
Short and clear. Thanks for the video
Simple, exact, and spot on. Thanks for this!
You're welcome!
Quick and to the point!! EXCELLENT!!!
Thanks!
Another good tip.
The smaller/thinner the tip is, the more heat you will need.
I use a wide tip. If I need to use a skinny pencil like tip, I turn the heat up.
Thanks for sharing the tip about the heat of the tip. I think that's something a lot of people would overlook when they're learning.
Great camera work and very education, thank you for posting!
Straightforward explanation, excellent demonstration..
Loved it!
So i needed to fix a guitar cable... had soldering iron and solder, but didn't know about flux. took a long longer and looked like crappy soldering work, but hey, I got it working again. Thanks for your video, it helped me!
You're welcome!
Wow, fantastic video! It was really interesting to watch the copper wire get as bright as new. Really makes sense that when repairing copper water line, using flux is a must because the old copper gets very dull and tarnished.
It's amazing how helpful flux is! It's like a night and day difference.
Fantastic! I really like how detailed your video is and how you take time to show the process in action, excellent camera work and pacing. I am about to attempt soldering some SMD LEDs into a PSP for my 100 sub special and your video has been very helpful in reassuring me that I can do this!
I'm glad this video was helpful! I'll keep an eye out for your video. I bet the PSP will look awesome with those LEDs!
Iv had a few fixes iv wanted soldering for a while and never knew how but I bit the bullet and I have ordered a soldering kit, flux, whick and isopropyl and I'm looking forward to trying this out your video has been the best explanation on using flux 👍
Awesomely simple and so very useful. Great video series
awesome demonstration, thank you!
Very informative and straight to the point. Thanks.
You're welcome!
Excellent video and explanation. Love it when people share their knowledge on YT (:
Excellent Video...Now I know even with solder wire with a Rosin Core has never been successful for me.
Have now ordered Flux Paste..Thank You👍
Best video on flux I’ve ever seen. Well done.
Thanks. Very helpful. Just getting into soldering.
Quick, simple and informative, great work!
Thanks!
Thankyou so much for making this video.
Why didn't you make this video back in the early '80s when I started soldering as a kid? Been soldering like an asshole my whole life wondering why I can't get it to stick.
Simple, clear, to the point. Great video! Thank you!
I've been soldering without my flux (that's right, I own some) for 15 years. I thought I just wasn't that good at it. 🤣
A little bit of flux makes a world of difference. In the video I used way more than necessary. Made it easier to demonstrate.
@@HowDoYouDIY oh it definitely looks like it's going to change the outcome of my projects.
Thank you for making this video, simple and clean.
You're welcome!
Very helpful video! Thanks!
Exactly what I was looking for. Thanks
I'm glad it was helpful!
you made it very simple, there are many basic training videos but u explained it well in quick time , thank you
I'm glad it was helpful!
Great video! My old metal shop teach always told us we needed flux! Big difference baby!
Nice, clear, informative, properly zoomed in video unlike other videos. Keep it up. Thank you:)
You're welcome!
Oh man I had so much issues soldering battery and motor wires to a speed controller today. My solder has a flux core but apparently it was not enough. So, inspired by this video, I went and bought some flux paste. Applied a decent blob. Worked in seconds!
Thank you so much for this detailed slow instruction. This is exactly what goes wrong when I try to solder. I think this will be the fix thank you so much!
You're welcome!
Absolutely loved the explanation 👍
Wow … Thx for excellent explanation.
I am going to solder new capacitors in my speaker crossover using flux
Excellent video. It is succinct, and the narration and visuals are clear. The demonstration of oxidation was enlightening. This helped me, and I also think it is important to human culture that resources like this are deliberately carried with it. Thank you!
So excellent why did i not know this earlier in my life
thank you thank you thank you x1000! great video for beginners. need more of this. subscribed, liked, and following.
I'm glad it was helpful!
Thank you for the tips!
Excellent video! Short, and to the point!
Thanks!
Had to log in just to say that this was very well explained, thanks!
Concise and well made video! Much appreciated!
Thanks, I'm glad you like it!
Thank you for the great information.
Bro, this video was perfect. Thank you!
