      I always thought of them more as New Zealand's answer to Devo. Both Split Enz and Devo formed at around the same time (1972/3), and had a similar kind of hyper-ironic post-psychedlic anti-hippie stance. Theatrical, intellectual, and just plain odd, their early music was anti-pop and super creative, super original.

    • @davidrathbone4029
      @davidrathbone4029 Год назад +4

      It was Simon Wright who took over drums in AC/DC when Phil Rudd left in 1983, not Mal Green.
      Malcolm Green (born 25 January 1953 in the UK) was in Split Enz from 1976 to 1981, replacing Emlyn Crowther in London in 1976. He had formerly played with Love Affair, The Honeycombs, and Octopus, and was joined in Split Enz by Octopus bassist Nigel Griggs, who replaced Mike Chunn. Green was sacked from Split Enz in 1981 after arguments with Tim Finn about songwriting contributions, releasing a solo single, "Follow Me" late that year ruclips.net/video/vK9AYZd3JQc/видео.html He then moved from NZ to Sydney, where he set up a home studio producing bands and also drummed for Sydney band Gethsemane. In 2005, he played with Split Enz at its induction into the ARIA Hall of Fame in Australia, and in 2006 he rejoined the band for its Australian reunion tour (sharing drumming duties with Noel Crombie). But Green did not take part in Split Enz's reunion tour of New Zealand in 2008. In 2014 Green returned to the UK to nuse his elderly father.
