    Nice video.
    But for our information, the ghosting we see is due to your camera's refresh rate recording.
    Your camera captures multiple frame rates of each device each time it shoots, but because it is too close to the 120hz, 144hz and 165hz screens, it captures each time one whole frame of the device and then a very small fraction of the next frame.
    If you look at the 90hz screen, it doesn't ghost/blur that much for two reasons.
    Firstly, its frame rate almost matches with the camera frame rate, so it is mostly 1 frame per 2 frames captured. (as the other have about 1,5 frames per 2 shooting frames or 1,8 frames per 2 frames.)
    And secondly, the camera's frame rate is much higher than the phone's display so it has more time to take than clean shot.
    For accurate ghosting testing, I would recommend using a higher frame rate camera.
    Try capturing the 165hz display with the Galaxy S21 Ultra's 240fps slow mo recording or with its 960fps super slow mo. You will see a significant improvement in ghosting.

    • @kelbinhow
      @kelbinhow 3 года назад +125

      Exactly, everytime it comes to talk about a screen's refresh rate, EVERYTHING needs to be in sync. Same to say that there's no point in buying a 240Hz monitor for your PC when your graphics card can only run games at 60fps. This applies to camera capture as well. Doesn't matter if you have a 180fps slow-mo camera, 180fps is too "poor" to do this kind of precise testing. We need this test with a much higher FPS count, a true super slow-mo.

      @kelbinhow 3 года назад +12

      Yeah, adaptive refresh rate would be the best of both worlds, battery and screen smoothness. Put it in 1FPS when it detects no change, for example when you are scrolling through Facebook or Instagram or messaging someone and suddenly stop to talk to someone or just have a look around, the smartphone would detect that the screen is "paused" and thus also pause the refresh rate, kind of locking it at 1FPS. When the system detects a new update in the pixels of the screen, then it would reactivate the 120FPS (or whatever settings you put). All that dynamically, on the fly.

That means it is adaptive, it can work at either frequency (or anything in between, given you have an input capable of doing so, like a PC that can do 90hz i.e.). Now, if by saying "adaptive" you mean "switching the frequency on the go, without the screen going black or flash for a sec" then maybe OLED could indeed be the only one to do it, because even though my TV can work in 60hz or 120hz, everytime I want to make that change, it needs a couple seconds to "change it", cutting to full black and then back on. The difference is noticeable in a 60 fps video simply due to the fact that the camera's capture rate isn't in sync with the displays' refresh rates. Those who say the video is at 30 fps are clowning.

    My rog 3 is unlocked to 160z but I use it at 90 if I'm not in a game to get extra battery life and it still feels just smooth enough 👍

    I feel like my phone, with 120hz looks really bad if you put it on 60hz. But my older phone with 60hz only was way smoother at 60hz than my 120hz phone on low settings

    I’ll be honest here. I think Samsung’s 120hz screen might just be the best. It’s not ridiculously battery consuming but also not stupidly laggy. Both the Asus ROG and Redmagic have higher Hz for gaming so it’s technically not a fair comparison with the Samsung.

    My phone has 144hz and honestly it's not that big of a difference from 90. It is definately noticeable but you would have to be concentrating at the refresh rate

    having used everything from 60 to 144hz, i can say one thing, 120hz+ oled with a higher resolution display would be most ideal
    the difference between 60 to 90 is very noticeable, similar with 60/90 to 120
    but the jump from 120 to 144 hz is barely noticeable so it really isn't required
    as of 2024 standards, 120hz is the best, if u want a noticeable bump from 120hz, u need refresh rates of around 200+ else it hardly makes a difference

    120 hz in my opinion is the sweet spot of smoothness

  • @parazels83
    @parazels83 Год назад +1

    120 hz is good, if a phone also has a powerful processor and fluent OS. Otherwise the high frame rate will not work at its best.
    That's why an iphone feels so smooth in real life, even at 60 hz.

    The sweet spot is in between 90 hz and 144, 60 sucks 165 is overkill but 90 120 and 144 are perfect.

    3 years before there were no hz mentioned when selling a smartphone..30hz or 60hz device ..the device sold by mentioned its other specs only...but nowadays the display Hz became a major factor to buy a new smartphone .... 😭😭
