Great video didn’t know i had to turn my cross when throwing
🥊💯
Hey coach I was wondering what size glove would you recommend for bag work. Also another great video 🥊💯
I like 16 oz
Coach, thank you for the knowledge! Love the editing style, the info really flows. Quick question, why turn the cross over almost completely upside down? I understand the concept of carving but seems a lil exaggerated.
Internal rotation of the shoulder adds more power into the shot and ensures the force transfers through the forearm like a spear. However, the primary purpose of that motion is defense; that internal rotation naturally raises the rear shoulder up, making it all that much easier to tuck your chin. Raising the rear shoulder acts as a defense against a counter left hook as it takes away the easier ko on the chin, and reduces the size of the target for the opponent, forcing them to be far more accurate to score.
The raised shoulder does give a little bit of a Telegraph, but for fighters who don’t rely on pure hand speed and reflexes, the passive blocking defense is more useful.
Love it..Great
Thank you 💯🥊
U the man
What are the best exercises for strength and conditioning in boxing?
Great tips Coach ,where is your gym ,Philly or Pittsburgh.
@Coach Anthony Sometimes I hurt my elbow when I throw my cross. I know I'm overextending but how do I stop?
Can you post a video switching stance while punching and variation of escape routes when throwing a combo
💯🥊
Nicely put a cross
🙏🏽🥊
Like the video 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Can anyone explain the reasoning behind turning your right hand over when throwing the cross? Does it add more snap? I usually tend to throw my right hand more straight
Is there a way to like hire you and you create like weekly/monthly training plans for me?
Yo coach. Why do we gotta rotate? What it do?
Hey nice helpful videos! I ve got to say my hands hurt when i punch the bag real hard. I use obv wraps and 16 oz gloves cuz with smaller ones i felt too much pain in my hands. Does someone know what the probl may be? I guess maybe it s just conditioning?
Are you hitting the bag with your first 2 knuckles? Or it could be the way you wrap your hands
@@vonthegreat870 i think the way i hit it it s correct, i actually have a coach, im not self taught , but i asked to have maybe other ideas on the matter. Thanks!
We have this kid now at our gym, he's new to boxing and he constantly gets countered with a right hand when throwing the jab (he's a southpaw by the way)... I'm not a trainer, just one of the older members there, but I'd still like to give the kid some cues.
What happens is that he throws the lead hand, his opponent just leans back and smacks him with a right hand. Typical beginner stuff, but where do you go from there? Maybe strength training or footwork drills?
I would have to see it to be honest especially since he is a Southpaw , but it is not uncommon for begginers to get caught with shots as he can still be making many fundamental errors.
I wouldn't be concerned with strength training to solve the issue but his skill training needs to be focused on
Hands up elbows in
Chin tucked
Snapping his punches
Bringing his hands back to his chin
Moving his head or feet when he is done punching etc
@@CoachAnthonyBoxing
Thanks, I'll tell him that. It's really hard to give pointers when you've never done it. When I watch high level pro's, I often know exactly what they should do. But I have a hard time teaching fundamentals to absolute beginners. The more progressed someone is, the easier it is for me to give cues.
I should've added that the kid stands right on the spot when throwing the jab, no movement of feet and head. You basically addressed this in video by saying to "plan the escape route" - basicaly offense with built-in defense as Wilson Kayden would say.
I also had a chat with a boxing coach from Vegas (not gonna drop his name, but I think he knows you personally). He said the jab isn't even meant to land - it's meant to gauge, to distract, to feint, to pick up on the opponents reaction,... I think that kid in my gym throws it with the intention to inflict pain like Larry Holmes. Obviously that's unrealistic in reality as he found out the hard way.
@@Confucius202 it sounds like he’s getting timed, watch for when he throws the jab, most beginners and even experienced fighters throw the jab when they get to the front foot. If he’s jabbing whenever he gets to that position then it’s super predictable and all his opponent has to do is time his own weight onto the front foot then turn into the right hand. Have him practice jabbing from the back foot, or fienting when getting to the front foot but not committing. He needs to learn when his opponent is vulnerable to the jab and won’t counter him, possibly when they’re in between positions themselves
@@P31280
That's a good point, I haven't consiered the front / backfoot aspect... But again, for me as non-trainer it's difficult to even see wether someone is front foot heavy or not.
But Coach Anthony is right - he'd have to see it to analyze the flaws - maybe he's throwing a lazy jab with poor technique, or maybe he's standing too far away to even land.
And of course the psychological aspect has to be considered - you can't expect a punch to land, especially the jab. On one hand you have to throw it with authority, stiff and hard... On the other you have to expect to worst, like miss and get countered.
Overcoming these obstacles and building a sound fundament is crucial in sports though... I think a lot of coaches focus on the good more progressed students, instead of sticking with teaching the fundamentals to the ones that don't have the fundamentals down yet. Teachers at schools are making that mistake too.
Great work.
Thank you!
The last tip *pause* coach l lol

My left cross feels awkward a bit, but I'm ambidextrous. I practice both leads. Any tips to help the rear left feel better and minimize any excessive forward lean when throwing the rear hand? Thanks in advance!
Are you righty or left?
@Lxnkzi some people are more dominant on once side even though they use both that's why I asked.
Coach, I am from kerala, India
How can take lessons from you.
Can’t believe your editor uses the laugh from filipino game shows

What in the absolute hell was that!?!? 😂
Is turning your punch like that really natural? When you were in the plan your escape route step, it didn’t look like you were really turning the cross. Not judging because I do the same thing.
