I use to use faints to keep my opponents hands up and off balance. A fighter with power in both hands and a master fainter can possibly create a world champion..Ala Manny Pacquiao. The only problem many head though was he wouldn't utilize it with head and waist movement ...because Manny was always on his toes fainting and coming in with straight hard punches..if many would have mixed in faints with head and waste movement he would have been unstoppable..and what I mean by head and waste movement is mixing it in with Floyd and canelo type movement. Mixing it in to confuse the apponent.
06:00 My soviet coach Mark Meltzer was saying that feints is a essential part of boxing. He explained it this way. He said you need to make your opponent get used to certain moves you do (your feints) and then you have to make a super small pause, and then do another move (throw a punch). He explained like this: when you do a certain move, your opponent gets used to it and his eyes react to those movements, then you make that super short pause and it's like his brain restarts, like there's a break in the cycle, and right after that break, you hit him cuz his mind and his eyes are not ready yet to read a new movement, they are still stuck in the previous pattern. For example: you move slightly back and forward, your opponent gets used to it, then when you move forward, you stop in the middle of the move, then boom and hit the guy. Kinda like Bernard Hopkins does - he feints feints feints then STOP. And BOOM. Invisible punches. Can by any feint. You can fake a jab to the body- one jab, second jab, third jab, then you start throwing another jab and STOP, BOOM right hand to the head.
YES YES YES. This is something I had to discover for myself, 10 years into combat sports. People can only be conditioned into responses through a sequence of movements! A single stutter isn't as effective as two "beats" that they get used to and then *bam* an unexpected third beat.
@@MishaElRusito I think it’s something you learn with the experience and sparring every day with passion. This is the same as music: nobody can teach you how to be a genius...
I've never been to a boxing match, never seen a boxer in real life, never set foot in a boxing gym, or never touched a glove. I watch Coach Anthony religiously
I have no boxing gyms in the whole entire state I live in,,,, I bought some gear, bags, speed bag, gloves 10oz up to 16oz and I've been picking what I believe are great channels to teach me this art. Always been highly interested in boxing I love it,,,,, I want to start from the bottom meaning I want a solid defense before I even learn any combos on offense,,,, I'm what I've been told a pressure fighter I like going forward and striking but I want a solid defense before all that other mess,,,,,, I have had friends that have gone on to fight semi pro after high school,,,, wrestling didn't pay but MMA and boxing did and does so I get some pointers from them at their gyms their wrestling gyms not boxing or MMA
A few times in sparring I’ve made “swwshhhh” sound like I’m throwing a strike without actually throwing anything. Usually in pocket, and I try to use some footwork while I do it to cut an angle. I’m definitely gonna revisit this video a couple times just to make sure I’ve get everything down and make feints a staple of my toolkit.
Feints create openings to launch your offense. It can also break your opponent's rhythm (I execute feints when I feel like my opponents are ready to mount an offense just so they go back to defense). Throwing a lot of feints can also be tiring though.
feint for the cross is good, is like a reload on it little turn or hip twist to come with the left hook which will be half way distance than jab full length but closer than opponent right hand but in the same time the straight punches _________ is faster than other punches generally but i think with proper timing and tactics this general rule can be (overrun), this left hook to be specific maybe doesn''t need step or just half step after feint to strike it fast, i believe the feint for the cross will work good and can be a great aim, thank you coach anthony i need to improve my fight and understand correctly.
Thanks for breaking it down to the fundamentals! I read somewhere that Sugar Ray Leonard could feint with just his eyebrows 😉 and I’ve heard Gerry Cooney say the feint is your best friend.
This consistency is amazing thank you. On a side note I'm starting to realize there are many good drills out there but the best drill is shadow boxing.
Yes 1/8 is less than a quarter. Really, as long as the denominator is larger that 4, it's considered "less than a quarter". That means 1/5, 1/6 , 1/7 etc. Even 1/4.01 is "less than a quarter". Great vid. Thanks for the tips.
Good video coach! Day 6 of boxing. Hit the pads with the coach at my gym last time and he surprised me by punching me on the face and the body. I thought I was good at head movement and defence cuz I practice it while shadowboxing and while punching the bag. Was quite funny - just "BAM".... I was like woahhh.... I ll defend the next one "BAM"....got me each time..... How can I practice this reflex? Dodging, ducking under, see it coming, head movement.... P.s.: Im prettu sure my hands were covering my face as they teach us.... and still got me... maybe my memory is fussy and maybe I wasn't protecting myself. Also I gassed out. Lol.
I liked the video before I even saw it just b/c I trust blindly in your content. It will be very interesting if you could make a video about how one should react to feints. I've been taught and I teach to always react to feints, that is when the feint is good of course. The reason being is that if you don't react to the feint the next time it won't be the feint coming your way but the real thing. Now, a rule of thumb for me is to vary my defense and offense just so it's harder for your opponent to set you up with a particular punch. So I follow up on that principle when reacting to feints where as long as the feint is good you react to it but with different defense. For instance, when the feint is a jab you steo back. Next time he throws a jab feint you slip to the right. Next time he throws a jab feint you slip on the inside. Next time you pivot to your left and so on and so forth for every punch or feint coming your way. Sometimes you'll repeat a defensive move but you don't want to be like Inongo vs Crawford. Still it would be nice to see your take on things as your perspective might be better and make more sense. You offer the best boxing product on the internet.
Perfect faints my brother..this with head and waist movement should be the 1st thing a boxer learns..if you can't or you're to lazy you shouldn't be in boxing.
Whenever someone faints I always change how I defend the shot so say they faint a jab and I slip then when they faint it again or actually throw it I’ll defend it a different way like leaning back is that a good thing to do🤔

I been subscribed !, but hey coach, can you make a video on breaking someone’s timing on you , or tricking them into over-reacting.
Y'all might like the Little Rap Guy and Friends boxing episodes. That's a cartoon series.
Coach! I need to know what is best for flooring in a garage. My knees are suffering. Please help
Feinting is like a cheat code, being able to see how someone reacts to a shot without throwing it is a game changer

About those tall yellow 🟡 plungers🪠 in the background... Are they a boxing utility or are they for a different sport/exercise?
how do you deal with faints though? 🤔
What happens if I feint but they don't react, should I feint another punch
Shout out coach Anthony boxing 💯
