This place will forever be part of my childhood, it really was something special and this marvellous collection of photos especially the ones from the 70's brought the memories flooding back.
yes remember it well still got some red plastic thing witch you look inside and it has a negative there is one where we were all in the dining room having lunch and the wooden huts they called chalets i always had the top bunk they where happy times brings back memories wish could turn the clock back we used to go to all the butlins round england thanks for the upload
I'm from the Netherlands. Still it feels haunting to watch a video like this. It's hard to imagine how a once vibrant place like that, can turn into a ruïn within just a few decades. And I'm "just" from 1978.
Brilliant, and also very, very sad also.Spent many years there in the 60's.and my Mother and Father before in the late 40's and 50's Breaks your Heart actually.I recently visit Sir.Billy's Grave in St.Johns.Jersey.But at least there are many, many Wonderfull memories World Wide.Thanks.
At the age of 19 in 1964 i worked at filey as a red for just two months but i had to leave for other comitments, although it was the right decision for me, i can never forget that magical time i had and it still haunts me to this day. and when i see these old photos it give me a feeling like nothing else has ever done.i must have been just grazy to leave.if only we could do it all again.
I went with my Nana when I was 8 and loved it, then 10 years later I went back through the gates at the age of 18 as a Butlins Red Coat. 2 years later it closed :-( These pictures make me cry. I've been back since they built the new village to pay my respects to the ghosts of the past.
those of us with a caring heart will always cry and greive for the closure of this and other sites that millions had great times whilst on their hols, it always makes me very sad that nothing is really celebrated at filey site in memory of its past
I worked in the big toy shop in Butlins Minehead in the school summer holidays in 1965. Loved every moment. Felt very grown up & they gave me a bonus. 20 years later I worked for a promotions company & did a 9 week stint there. It was great fun.
As a child in the late 60s and 70s we had a caravan at Primrose Valley on Sea View close to the fence of Butlins I was always fascinated by the chair lift SAD to see it all gone now.
This was my favourite place ever in my life. We had holidays there in the 60's/ 70's. I always think of those fantastic times. We also went to Skeggy but Filey was the tops by a huge margin.
I spent several childhood weeks there in the 1960s. If I could find a time machine I'd go back in a heartbeat. Yesterday's Britain was a better Britain.
This brings back loads of memories with family. We attended Filey in last weeks before it closed. Had a wonderful time there ... Seemed to remember that National Travel used to drop you off at the gate to the camp and continue through to Filey town. By the early 80s the camp was showing its age and needed a total revamp. A shame to see such history go and stood for such a long time ... derelict ... but seems to have been raised from the flames like a phoenix in the last few years. ❤️👍
When I was a kid around 1974 -1980 we used to holiday at Primrose valley almost every year, to this day I didn't know they was a Butlins holiday camp backing on to it! I don't think we could have afforded Butlins at the time though. I was actually googling directions to go on a nostalgic day trip to filey when I found this video, really enjoyed it and it's update my own history of filey thanks
So sad very happy holidays there for a kid like me who's home from home was the swimming pool the pool outdoor and in door were brilliant I remember having my first Chinese there the beachcomber bar all the theatres wall to wall entertainment
How is the huge "Primrose Valley" caravan site which now replaces it in any way better ? Other than making more profit for the owners. Like Centre Parks with luxury cabins, boredom, and franchised eateries. Give me those basic chalets, three meals a day of canteen food, and around the clock entertainment whatever your age. Butlins Filey 1968 & 1970, Clacton in 1973, what memories ...
Anyone happen to know a bloke called Eddie who worked in the kitchens/ caterer in 1975, he only had the 1 season there in 1975, i dont know his last name unfortunately, my wife's friend is trying to locate him as uts her biological dad, she was 15 months when he left
If only I could go back to the summer of 79 when I was a barman in the Gaiety bar, the most memorable and happy year of my life.😀
Be honest with me would you prefer to have been a barman at butlins or in the Costa del sol the ruin of butlins camps.
I was on holiday there during September of that year, I was 13!
Bet you feel old now 'cos I sure do 😂
This place will forever be part of my childhood, it really was something special and this marvellous collection of photos especially the ones from the 70's brought the memories flooding back.
Great memories born in 1962 and had 10 years of brilliant British holidays there thanks for the pictures 👏👍
Thinking back to early 60s the avg family could only afford to go on these types of holiday in fact it was a luxury to a caravan holiday.
Memories of childhood going to Butlins in the 60's 70's. Thank you. It seemed such a magical fun place growing up

Cheap holidays abroad killed it. I remember Trevor Guy buying the site and he was going to rebuild it but he went bankrupt attempting it.

Rep Syke I was born in 64, I took my kids, now take my grandson to minehead
I was wondering if you ever met Johnny O'Mahony who may have still been a redcoat in 64? He had been the camp tramp for a time.

David Atkin it said that they did not say open to this day I never when I do not think
It really is heartbreaking

Please Please tell us more.......about your days as a red coat?
There is something wrong with this country when superb assets like that are destroyed.

If theres a perfect moment in my life it could be Butlins Filey '67
Wonderful video - many thanks for sharing.

At 4.05 are the staff chalet lines. So long ago, yet so familiar.

Our very first holiday as a family in the late 40's. I remember going there - from London - in the "Big Blue Train", steam of course....

So sad very happy holidays there for a kid like me who's home from home was the swimming pool the pool outdoor and in door were brilliant I remember having my first Chinese there the beachcomber bar all the theatres wall to wall entertainment
Too sad!
Been to the Bay it is like a modern soulless housing estate. Would not recommend it to anyone.
Great video, thanks for uploading
thanks xx
Sums up the decaying the world in which we live

Cheap foreign holiday packages more or less killed britain's holiday camps.
that and the fact mr butlin was a gangster .
@@user-Merovingian1980
So few people state the fact. Looked like one and acted like one.
Loved. This. Place
WE HAD GREAT FAMILY HOLIDAYS HERE

Thank you!
No Toot & Ploot?
spoilt by the crap music
You don't like the original Butlin's music?
It summed-up the whole ethic of the thing.
You probably wouldn't have liked Butlin's.
@@bingola45 loved butlins not the tune :)
Turn the volume down then
