Super 8 Film footage from the 1980's.
This was filmed by my Father (James Aldridge) on a cine camera. He estimates it to be 1981.
I had the old film reel scanned by 'Redditch Media Services' and then I edited the footage and added some sound design to bring it back to life.

I went in the 90s, but it doesn't look too different. Loved my butlins holidays. Have fond memories. And now I'm taking my kids there next year. I know it has changed a lot, but as long as it evokes the same magic for my kids; that's all that matters.

I was there that year, remember racing my Dad for a dropped Pound note outside the Yellow Camp Chalets, the footage is amazing, captures the time to perfection!!!

The best holiday ever. Been going Butlins last 40 years but not the same now I know things have to move on but it was much better back then. Miss those times at Butlins of old so much. Thanks for the great video. 👍

Brilliant brought some fantastic memories back to life. I just wish the monorail and cable cars were still there.
I loved the chairlift was awesome.
I went there for a week with my Grandad in May 1975 , stayed in Yellow Camp. I went there again for Festival of the 60s in 2023 a great event
Happy memories this cinefilm brought back of ‘75, with the monorail stopping over the outdoor swimming pool. A shame it is so different now, but Minehead is still the best one over Bognor and Skegness.

Omg brings back memories of my late mum who use to take me on holiday to butlins Minehead in the early 80s as she use to work for top rank bingo the same company who use to own the butlins campsites she use to be able to get discounts because of that
Yes it was owned by the Rank Group (Rank Organisation) at the time.
This certainly brings back memories from my childhood on holiday with my family

@@Hayley-dm2je You’re very welcome. It was my father that filmed it when we were there as kids, I was about 8. My Dad found the film in the loft so I had to digitise it and upload it for everyone to share the memories. Yes, I think Health & Safety stepped in and ruined it. Great memories though. Thanks for your comment.

I was an 80s kid & remember heading back to the chalet on the chairlift after a day of fun. It's such a shame they got rid it & monorail at Minehead.
I was thinking of booking a break to Minehead, but I'm just not sure.
It won't be the same :(

Lovely footage, thank you for sharing. The chairlifts and monorail were brilliant, being able to see so far across camp and beyond into Minehead and the sea front too.
