I live in Live Oak. The water stopped 300 feet from my office. This is the second time this has happened to us. The last time was another Hurricane named Debby in 2012. It did the same thing this hurricane did. One of the flooded roads you saw with a Police car blocking it was very close to my office. The officer told me someone tried to drive though it earlier and was trapped. Fortunately, he got them out but what wasn't visible was under that flooded road was their car completely submerged in 8 feet of water. This has not been a good day.
I’m in Gainesville and no flooding here just some trees down. I didn’t know towns in north central Florida flooded like this? Does anyone know how it happened here..the River?

I live in St Petersburg Florida and we didn't get it like that!! We haven't had any bad floods .. Been here almost 25 years. Some places of Florida are really not bad at all .
It's hitting us in Charleston now. My work closed tomorrow with a late start Wednesday. We've already broken old rain fall records by over half an inch! Turn around, don't drown! Be safe yall!

I've watched my car float and bob in FL flood waters before and it wasn't even a named storm. it's the "price for living in paradise" they say. Idk, living in repurposed swamp lands isn't always paradise, it's not for the anemic either (mosquito reference) either, that's for certain.
I will never ever forget Katrina. I saw it five months after it happened. We went down to the ninth ward. Just beyond belief. It definitely was a feeling. Horrible feeling.
I helped with some house rehab seven years after Katrina hit down there. At that time they still had 100 houses left to rehab. We were in Slidell. The storm surge had been very bad.
Im a local in south Florida. I have a lifted truck, a few kayaks and tons of camping gear. Your always prepared all year long. Get used to it, this is normal for us
It's sad to see a small community take suck a big hit. I have been to Live Oak several times in the past and meet people that are just hard working people. I hope that the people that are affected from the storm recovers quickly.
This is my home town. Talked with my folks and it seems like most people are doing alright, but it's going to be a long time before things go back to normal.

We got nearly 30 inches of rain here. Proximity to the coast doesn't save you or doom you. Live Oak is inland at 100ft+ elevation.

We live in Sarasota County and it was just a tropical storm here and we still had flooding in areas. I couldn’t believe the heavy rain bands with this one. I did a lot of praying the past two days.
Just an FYI the elevation of Live Oak Florida 105 feet ASL. Someone claimed earlier it was below sea level. WTF not even the Grand Canyon is below sea level. Though Death Valley is -252 feet below sea level.
This storm just kept on giving. I am north of Bradenton. It rained so hard and just this afternoon it has let up. Im just seeing on the news that we got 12" of rain and there are still more bands coming through tonight.
So sorry for all those people. Meanwhile here in So. Calif. it's 107° in the valleys we haven't had a drop of rain since April, probably won't have any until December and we'd pray for even a 1/2 an inch! Crazy country we live in.

I have a faithful friend who recently lost his woman, children, then his home caught ablaze for unanswered reasons. More like Job I suppose, but as a child of HT, and 14 homes, I didn't think he deserved this. He praises the father everyday despite the woes. That is a faithful man.
Thank you for the tour of our Humble town. The first Tropical Storm Debby was in my opinion far worse. The one went through relatively faster than I thought. so many of our storefronts downtown are flooded. many of them are owned by elderly people that will have a hell of a time cleaning up. God bless them we need to pitch in. it's time to get busy and show people what Floridians are all about. one family under God!
You can thank the Suwannee River anytime it rains for an extended time this happens in central FL because of all the rivers and springs so close to one another happens fairly regularly in comparison to the rest of the country

i remember Hurricane Harvey. The streets turned into canals for months and residents were driving through in boats. The weird part was the traffic lights were all still working and doing its thing. there was this guy in his boat recording himself cruising up to a red light at an intersection. Light turns green and he cruises off. He was like idk, what else are you supposed to do🤷♂️
Knew this was going to happen with surging and flooding per Deb. Living near the coast is no picnic but then planet wide our planet proves time and again how powerful she is and how much we aren't in control. Still love it and will always love chasing the madness. Awesome work Chief, you rock.
The smart ones have flood insurance. They also moved their important stuff out of harm's way. We have been through this many times. The location is awesome, but has costs to upkeep. I lived in Maine, Iceland, Bermuda, Spain, spent time in Cali, Virginia, and visited a dozen countries. Despite the flood of nasty Yankees, Florida rocks. Floridians are resilient.
We live in Lake City, a town over, and our area hasn't seen this much rain since the last Debby came thru in 2012. Our road and entire neighborhood is flooded. I thought the rain would never stop.
I would say expect more of this in the coming decades. Worse storms, more tornados, and larger hurricanes with slightly higher temperatures all season long that includes other parts of the Earth.

It's about 10:00 pm and it's still raining on and off here close to Orlando.

Be careful of potential sinkholes. Downtown Live Oak was flooded years ago and had some open up

Live Oak, Florida is far inland and has an elevation over 100 feet. This flooding is nuts.
People just constantly assume all of Florida is the beach. They don’t realize that this far up we are basically in GA. All woods up here.

i remember Hurricane Harvey. The streets turned into canals for months and residents were driving through in boats. The weird part was the traffic lights were all still working and doing its thing. there was this guy in his boat recording himself cruising up to a red light at an intersection. Light turns green and he cruises off. He was like idk, what else are you supposed to do🤷♂️

Knew this was going to happen with surging and flooding per Deb. Living near the coast is no picnic but then planet wide our planet proves time and again how powerful she is and how much we aren't in control. Still love it and will always love chasing the madness. Awesome work Chief, you rock.
The flooding sucks for all those businesses
The smart ones have flood insurance. They also moved their important stuff out of harm's way. We have been through this many times. The location is awesome, but has costs to upkeep. I lived in Maine, Iceland, Bermuda, Spain, spent time in Cali, Virginia, and visited a dozen countries. Despite the flood of nasty Yankees, Florida rocks. Floridians are resilient.

We live in Lake City, a town over, and our area hasn't seen this much rain since the last Debby came thru in 2012. Our road and entire neighborhood is flooded. I thought the rain would never stop.
I would say expect more of this in the coming decades. Worse storms, more tornados, and larger hurricanes with slightly higher temperatures all season long that includes other parts of the Earth.

the entire state is like only 2 ft above sea level, right? no wonder it floods every year. You're not supposed to live there. move to higher ground. Humans inhabit the most inhabitable places and then complain about nature.
The Flooders like this storm are often the worst.

I’m so thankful that the damage to our farm wasn’t as bad as this, and that we live right outside Live Oak. I feel so bad for those inside Live Oak! 😢

Well, that hurricane made the lake even higher and bigger. It really puts a new definition of Lake City. Because that flood is like an evolved lake
Funny thing is, 12 years ago there was another Hurricane Debby that flooded Live Oak. I saw a vid here on youtube
They will probably retire Debby after this.
Not the new normal but just the old normal. Flooding happens with hurricanes. What I want to know is how every time the southeast is getting more than normal amounts of rain why do we in Midwest face a drought. And just the opposite happens when we are getting more rain than normal.
