My heart is broken. I am a peaceful protester and I was holding my #blacklivesmatter protest sign out of my window. someone threw a full water bottle as hard as they could at my face. It hit my arm and missed my head, but still.....
then they just drove away. I have never felt prejudice before, but I'm getting a little taste now. I won't stop voicing and exposing the injustice I see all around me, but wish me luck. It seems the police and the white nationalists don't care if they hurt us, even if we aren't doing anything wrong. And they won't get in trouble for it.

@@ashleydavies6566 Video from just before and during the "clearing" it was shown that not a single one, not ONE of the protesters were violent at all. They didn't throw anything and didn't even yell anything.
And since sometimes it's hard to decipher tone or intention with posts online, I want to verify that I am not trying to counter Ashley's post, but back up her statement and add that it was not just the vast majority, but every single one, so far as anyone can see from the video.
And john, it is ILLEGAL as in Constitutionally illegal to use the military for domestic law enforcement.

Not one person said anything like that. But you're good at claiming lies as facts. In fact you made that very same claim of "You all" thinking terrible things are great, or good, when no one said that or even referenced those events to be able to say they were good and great. Imagine being the Prime Minister of Canada being asked to comment on the actions of a vicious, unstable and volatile President knowing that the slightest wrong word could result in billions of dollars loss to the economy coming from a vindictive reaction. Dam right he needs to take some time to make sure he doesn't say something that will irritate Trump. The long pause speaks volumes about what he probably wanted to say.

Exactly, everyone is acting like Trudeau is dealing with a completely sane individual. He has to be extremely careful when saying anything with regards to what Trump does. Any false move and he will no longer be cooperative about keeping the border closed or anything else for that matter. This is the same guy who cut off our shipment of PPE because he thinks they should get it first. Trudeau has his work cut out for him. I think he did well in answering the question. If Trump was in that position he would have told the reporter off.

All that military and police equipment has suddenly spawned onto the streets, every cop in riot gear... stockpiles of rubber bullets and tear gas. National guard turning up in shiny new trucks and surplus military hardware. 1033 program is offensive to think about when it got twisted to the point that police could skip surplus and buy straight from the military suppliers.
While the hospitals for months couldn't get enough protective gear for doctors and nurses saving lives. That stockpiled respirators and equipment held by the CDC and FEMA were old, busted and broken, and that millions of US emergency funds were awarded by blind tender to people who never delivered necessary supplies.

The day before we moved my father to hospice he (a 77 year old lifelong republican) asked who the republican nominee was. When I told him it was Trump he used all his strength to roll his eyes and give a heavy sigh of disappointment. It was one of the last coherent exchanges we had.

Yeah, I agree with all of the comments so far. I'm not a Trudeau fan but the restraint to not say what you really feel in that moment because of all of the implications of a wrong word choice or phrasing is something Trump should have learned before he entered the WH. That could have saved Trump so much trouble. And now the only way he knows to defend himself is the use of violence as long as he doesn't have to do it. He's a paper tiger. I find it noticeable that Stephen did a Sign of the Cross after making jokes of 45's parodic perspective over religion; it would be seen as blasphemous on his part. It's a subtle reminder that Stephen is a devout Roman Catholic, he can recite Latin verses and their meaning and other trivia by memory, and is so well-versed that he teaches Sunday school. And all of that should inform the viewer the disgust and shame he must be feeling for 45 to appropriate the symbols of his faith for a cheap photo op and to enact violence on peaceful protesters while simultaneously wrecking the 1st amendment.

@@kyleking3839 It helps that I was raised Catholic; I outgrew it when I became an adult (only went to church on holidays for family reasons) as I was never particularly religious but believed faith, spirituality, and just being a good person could be derived by many things. Nevertheless, when Stephen did the Sign of the Cross, things just clicked as old habits and rituals resurfaced and he's telegraphing to the audience EXACTLY how he feels.
It is blasphemous. It is the heart which counts in life. He is spreading gossip, being disrespectful, not being a good example for others.

The bookmark is SUPPOSED to be that way. It's glued to the top of the binding and dangles down. The spine is facing leftward. If it were upside-down, the bookmark would be at the top. I am surprised the secret service permitted him to venture into that area before the church. Hundreds of protesters, many probably with Covid19 were all over that area for days. In the white house, everyone gets tested daily whose around him. Now dozens of people from his staff were exposed to areas that hadn't been disinfected so he could take a picture with a bible. Was even a bible for that religion? I bet you ten dollars that at least one of his people comes down with the virus this week.

I talked to my dad today. He's very much a Conservative, though he is also pretty bipartisan in his values, so he's nowhere near far-right. He's always voted Republican, he voted for Bush both times, he voted for McCain, he voted for Romney, and he voted for Trump. When Trump started his term, my dad quickly began to dislike him more and more; while he agreed with a few of his policies, he said that every time he opened his mouth, it really made him regret it. And now, today, he said something I never thought I'd hear him say: "I don't think I can bring myself to vote for him again." I asked him what changed, and he said "How can anyone say that they will use military force against civilians?" Neither one of us are big Biden fans, and I don't like that this election cycle is basically another "lesser of two evils" scenario, but Trump is only making things worse, and a Biden presidency might be an interim for something more positive later. For once, we hoped that he could have tried to sympathize with this horrible situation and spoke about unity, but instead he's doing things like this.
Tell your dad we respect his patriotism and other Republicans, myself included, reserve the right to vote across party lines. Tell him he's a man of strength and integrity and that's what really matters. And good job as a son or daughter for honoring your dad.
