Damn, respect Jamie. I know you two don't always see eye to eye, but respecting Adams love of space, and passing up on such an incredible opportunity for the sake of someone you're not super close too, it's just a real stand up move.
Adam always said they were super close (as far as working together seamlessly) and enjoyed working together, just didnt hang out after work too

Jamie and Adam always have an infinite amount of trust and respect for one another. They're just not in each others social circles as they're pretty much chalk and cheese personality wise.
Kinda surprised they didn't fly both Adam and Jamie. Must have been a cost issue.
Jamie letting Adam fly is probably the most gracious thing I've ever seen someone do. I seriously doubt I could do that. I would probably get into an argument and pitch a fit.
It's all the more impressive given that Jamie and Adam don't like each other.
seems pretty inline with their personalities TBH... I don't imagine jamie was all that worked up about it and adams obsession with space suits and space is pretty well known. it really just made sense for adam to be the one to do it.
They actually do like each other, they're just not in each others social circles.

Quote from Adam (not word for word): They respect eachothers work and skills/abilities but they would not meet outside of work, they drive eachother batty and most likely would not work on another show together again. I set a timer for two and half minutes and just sat in silence imagining what that free fall would be like.
Well actually you are not free falling all the time. You will have some seconds of free falling after you ejected until you reach terminal velocity which means you stop accellerating because of the air stream around you compensates the gravitational force. On that altitude you will reach about 250-300 mph which will slowly decrease to ca. 120 mph when decending into more dense athmosphere. But for about 15 seconds you will probably feel free fall. But that´s it.
Adventureairic, he is just means falling, not all of that stuff and what not. he is not thinking about speed, no you would be thinking about your life perhaps?
The falling would be normal if you're a pilot, I imagine they take parachuting courses.
What creeps me out is the thought of all of this happening while you're there with a broken back.
As much as they didn't like each other Jamie was the ultimate friend by letting Adam live out his dream of going to space
One of the problems with the U-2 (now TR-1) is that it's maximum speed is less than 10 knots away from its stall speed. So during a turn, the inside wingtip could conceivably be in a stall, while the outside wingtip is exceeding its design limits. Also, the initial aircraft had no auto pilot capability, so pilots had to manually fly within the narrowest of margins for 8 hours or more.

!!!NERD ALERT!!! At 9:19 Adam says that he referred to the blue "blood" as "Vulcan blood", even though in Star Trek, Vulcan blood is green. Well, in fact, Adam was correct and Gene Roddenberry had it wrong. Humans have red blood because the oxygen carrier is iron-based (hemoglobin), but in the Star Trek universe Vulcans have a copper-based oxygen carrier (hemocyanin), and people associate the color green with copper oxidization for some reason (I'm looking at you, Statue of Liberty). The reality though is that blood with a copper-based oxygen carrier actually IS blue, as evidenced in the Horseshoe Crab, the Emperor Scorpion, and several other species of crustaceans and arthropods. Copper is a far less efficient oxygen carrier than iron, and as such, Vulcans would tend to be slower and weaker than humans, contrary to their physical superiority in the Star Trek universe.
What is the advantage of having blue blood, then?

@@lupus67remus7 as far as I can tell Copper based blood is more efficient at lower temperatures and higher pressures. So if Vulcans had a lower body temperature. Say 20C rather than 37C or if they evolved on a planet with a much thicker atmosphere than Earth it might make sense.
@@lupus67remus7 Here is my understanding: Since horseshoe crabs have an open vascular system (i.e. no veins or arteries), there is a greater danger of bacterial infection in their bloodstream. Since copper has antibacterial properties, it is believed that copper blood is an adaptation to reduce the risk of infection.
Then Gene isn't wrong, just that the perception humans have about Vulkan anatomy in Star Trek is wrong.
Otherwise their blood would be lie and they'd be weaker not stronger.
best tip for flying drones for beginners is, always make sure you know were the front of it is, because that is what you make your steering commands from, so keep the front and back in a parallel line with yourself .

Both of them had clarified that they don't mind working together again if given the opportunity. It's just that their career paths have diverged so much it may no longer be possible. Adam's hardcore into the entertainment industry and Jamie has gone deep into niche engineering fields.
U2 Has a 6 MPH Buffer, meaning if your speed is to slow you have compressor stall and you fall out of the sky, 7 MPH faster than the stall speed your Rip the wings off. That's why its the one of the most difficult planes to fly. Original U2 had a 12MPH buffer. Then they upgraded the engines and it reduced it even further. Truth

Except that everything you’ve written is wrong.... a) you don’t get compressor stall just from flying slow. It’s just stalling. Nothing to do with the engine but to do with the wing can’t lift anymore. If you fly too fast then you don’t stall, you’re going to get Mach buffet and depending on the exceedance you may well start ripping rivets or buckling skin. That zone at high altitude is indeed coffin corner which most pilots are very familiar with
By the way, engines do not have ANYthing to with with low speed stall and high speed exceedance. It has all to do with the wing which they upgraded and made the frame lighter which helps opening up the margins

What's awesome is that a lot of these things is what Chris Hadfield trained in for years. You're basically doing NASA training stuff, just not as overcautious and not a lot to memorize

Most of the top contenders for "most difficult plane to fly" are aircraft you have never heard of unless you're a hard core aviation history buff. Aircraft like the Gee Bee, Stipa-Caproni, Vought V-173, Lockheed XFV and the Northrop XB-35. You never hear about them because they kept killing pilots. That being said, there is a great case for calling the U-2 the "Most difficult to fly operational aircraft"
I'm not the best flyer in the world, it kinda makes me uneasy sometimes, and it's usually when I think about what's actually happening to me/what I'm doing, so what Adam said at 4:14 gave me anxiety like crazy and he's like, "Not a bad way to spend your day." And in my head I'm like, "Absolutely ridiculous and terrifying."

Coming from logistical stand point, I dont think were really that close to drone delivery. Youd get a drop off, maybe two if they were nearby before youd have to bring the drone back for a recharge. In the future, with battery tech advancement and the like, its definitly possible, but not for the near future
Copper-based blood is blue, so the idea of Vulcan blood being green is probably down to the writers' lack of understanding of chemistry.

That was a fantastic episode. That episode should be mandatory for any flat earther. Look over Adam’s shoulder and the shot out of the canopy when he was in the U-2. You can see the obvious curvature of the earth. End of conversation.
They will always have an excuse no matter what. Even if the flat earther was in the airplane they'd just say the windows were projectors or it was all an elaborate simulation or some shit lol

The problem about the beautiful view from the U-2 is that pilots don't get to admire it for long, especially back in the Cold War when you notice things like "Hey there are *Soviet* nukes right next to Florida."

Yep, the issue with the U-2 is it's Speed/Stall Envelopes are just a few Knots difference once you're at 70,000 feet and Above
It was a poor idea to use fisheye cameras. We don't really get an idea of the real curvature that's seen from that height
I believe there are versions of the SR-71 that can fly higher, so why did you choose the U-2? The SR-71 also is the 2nd fastest plane in the world, so that is a nother factor I wanted to ask about the show.
there is no SR-71 remaining in service since 1990.

Not even close! You are only considered an astronaut after you reach 75 miles above the earth! Adam still got a ways to go! The only winged plane other than the space shuttle that can go up that high would be the X -15 rocket plane.

Some flat eathers use the flat horizon behind Adam at 3:47 and 4:17 as proof for flat earth. Can someone explain that?

There are many instances more where you can see that the curvature is just a lens effect. It is flat.
Yes the curved shots are an obvious fish eye and the times you mention are a non distorted view. They are purposefully manipulating you. If they would have left the curved shots for longer you would have seen the curve change as the camera angle shifted. Study high altitude videos and watch as their fish eye lens shifts and the curve changes.

+chilcottjack29 The Harrier in Battlefield is in fact a simulation. It's a pretty accurate recreation of flight, so I feel like I'm pretty much good enough to fly a harrier, just not fly it in real combat. Take off and land? No problem
@@Splint993 the harrier in battle field is not even close to being a simulation. Try DCS that’s a real simulator! It takes people years to learn how to fly it on DCS including me. Just starting up the jet can take weeks to learn.
@@roccop3760 I haven’t flown one yet in real life so i can’t know for sure. But I’m guessing it’s pretty simple to start. Introduce some fuel, introduce some spark. Bam! Airplane started. After that just drive over to the takeoff place and push the power up and pull back on the controls until it goes in the air.

As awesome of an aircraft it was it was too expensive to operate, Fuel always leaks, You will need to refuel once you takeoff, Maintinance is too expensive, I don't see it coming bad sadly.
Well the SR-72 is now in confirmed development, but it will be unmanned. At least it didn't have as many problems as the YF-12 variant and it's recon drone.

Hey myth busters, Neil Degrass Tyson called and said BS on seeing the curvature of the Earth at that height.
Looks like fisheye lense the curve is extra when the plane is at an angle and less so when leveled
Source for this. The only places I could find it were flat earth sites and comments on youtube videos.

While being interviewed on the subject of Felix Baumgartner jumping from the stratosphere at 128 k feet, Tyson clarified that you can't see the curve from the height. If that is true then neither can mythbusters since he flew at a much lower altitude. Tyson explains the use of fish eye lenses to create curvature. By his account, photos or footage from anyone at the height serves neither Ball Earth or Flat Earth proofs.

You sign 75 documents before so, and they basically put your name in a book for reasons unknown....It's funny how monotone he said "Theres a definitive curve" He knows its BS. I was wondering myself how the AF was allowing civilian flights in the U2 they have some sort of program now for this much like the fighter jet rides they give celebrities, news reporters, and rich people. I had heard my CEO got a F-16 flight with the Thunderbird's I started asking why CEO's are getting rides my company gave some money to a charity the AF was giving rides for. As much as we like to see this reality is they are using tax payer funds to produce a for profit show. Even if they pay for the cost to operate the U2 cost millions just doesn't seem fair that a select few get rids always rich CEO's or celebrities.

I just saw the flatvature of the earth
Anyone else notice that the wing of the plane is always angled down below the horizon before showing us the go pro footage. Why do this? Because wide angle lenses can create a curve that isn't there. If the wing was angled up and the camera was looking above the horizon the earth would appear concave. Go watch Felix bumgartners jump video and the curve of the earth does all kinds of strange things. Sometimes curved, sometimes concave. When he reaches the ground you can still see a curve. Go pro fish eye lens. Look it up. They take one good curve photo from the footage and say here's the curve. I can take a clip from the same footage and prove the earth is concave. With no fish eye lens you would never see any curvature
There's no curvature in the footage looking at him in the plane. Look behind him at the horizon. Then, when they cut to the fisheye lens facing to the side, there suddenly is. They cut back and forth numerous times. If there really was curvature at that height, you'd see it in all directions. It looks perfectly flat in the non fisheye footage facing toward the back of the plane every time.
So is the earth flat?
