I bought the Multiac Nylon SA, after considering the ACS Slim.
Reasons for my choice: 1. it sounds richer and louder when you're practicing not amplified (larger body, larger chamber, spruce top etc.) 2. The 1 7/8" nut isn't much wider than the slim version (1 7/2") and I actually prefer it (good compromise between an electric and a classical.) Still way narrower than the classical 2" nut. 3. The Richlite fretboard allows the MIDI to track way better. Important if you're using the 13-pin synth port.
Reasons to prefer the ACS slim: better feedback control (i.e. it can play louder), slimmer nut (if you like it more like an electric), internal sensors (not limited to piezo), lighter, $500 less expensive than Multiac Nylon SA.
The Multiac line really has something for everyone. If you're a classical guitarist, for example, the Grand Concert models come with a 2" nut and absolutely flat fretboard. Not to mention that the "Duet Ambiance" model comes with simulated microphones and it produces the best classical guitar emulation (but it has no synth output though.) If you don't like nylon strings, they have metal strings models, fitted with a conventional pickup besides the piezo and the internal sensors (including one model particularly suited for jazz.) And if you are looking for a cheaper Multiac, they have the Nylon Encore models, which are chambered like the Nylon SA, with the same 1 7/8" nut but in a smaller body (just like that of the ACS slim) and without the synth output.
I know it can get confusing trying to pick the right model for you. I hope my brief explanation could help someone.

We don't make all too much in Canada, but what we make tends to be quite good. The Godin brands of guitars are brilliant.

Yes, Thirsty Fox, and it's Godin BRANDS, not just one brand. I have one of their cheapest models, an acoustic from the Arts and Luthier line. It plays beautifully, has a nice tone, and they were wise enough to not cheap out on critical components like the nut and bridge, which are of Tusk ivory-like material. I'm hoping to upgrade soon to one of the higher end Godin's. I'm looking at a guitar from their Seagull line. More expensive than my
Boom. Canada.
I bought my first LG inn 1997 and, other than an Ibanez SA, is the only brand I now buy. The A6 is brilliant as it doesn't feedback or boom.

Makes you wonder about the greed that the other company owners/executives have. If Mr. Godin can do it for less, than why can't the American companies. It's not like he runs a sweat shop in Quebec. Search for his factory tours on RUclips. The man is genuinely excited and knowledgeable about his product. I would bet a million dollars that none of the execs at the major US brands could give you the info he can.

@@TheSupart91 compare apples to apples of the quality from this to other guitars of the same quality.... also 500 dollars certainly isn’t unobtainable...try and find anything else that nice in that price range.
I've had one of these guitars for a long time. It literally replaced my other acoustics. What a great guitar it is.
How quiet is it acoustically? Could you play it at night (through headphones) without waking others up?

I have a Multiac Nylon Ambiance myself. Simply beautiful guitar - I have huge respect for Godin for being able to provide such high quality instruments at reasonable prices.

There's one at my guitar center (the model is the Acousticlassic), and they want $800 for it. All it has is a little chip in the clear cloat and that's it. I paired it with an Acoustic A20 and it's chorus settings, and it's one of the best playing experiences I've had in a long time.
At last, I've found my ideal guitar! The blues piece was a real surprise, too. Superb playing, of course, as usual. Thanks Darrell.

After seeing this video, I recently purchased this guitar. I have to say that I have always been disappointed with nylon string guitars not so much for nut width, but for action height. With a minor adjustment to the neck on this Godin, the action is as low and fast as any electric guitar. It is remarkably easy to play, and Darrel’s description is spot on. Darrel thanks for a informative review.
In my 50 years playing/listening to guitars, this is the first time I have heard a classical guitar played with a pedal, let alone an OVERDRIVE! Sounded great! But then you had a winning combo of excellence in player and guitar. Being a classical guitar player, I had difficulty using the Godin slim neck ACS. Replaced it with A classical wide neck Godin and love it. Great guitars. I look forward to more Of your tutorials featuring the Godin.

I have the wide neck also I am a home player but have wide fingers which makes it so much easier for me to play

As usual, Darrell does a fabulous review! His reviews helped me to narrow down choices for my next guitar, & I chose the ACS Nylon Natural SG. I'm thrilled with it. BTW, Andres Colin also has some very useful RUclips vids to offer on the Godin series: he uses two of them & has built a gigging career around unique features of the Multiac series.
Darrell does 2 things that are especially unique & helpful: he plays much the same pieces on reviews of similar products, making it much easier to compare & contrast the sound of different instruments across reviews. No one else does that! And he's willing to review instruments he doesn't necessarily sell: there's been a sudden increase in direct-to-consumer sales of guitars (for example, the Orange series & a couple of carbon fibre companies) that don't sell through music stores. Darrell reviews them anyhow. And he reviews them as a competent & honest musician: he isn't trying to sell anything.
I'd like to second one of Darrell's comments & nitpick with another. Cons first: he says the guitar is really light. NOT. These things all weigh in about 6.6 lbs. That ain't light if you're a traditional acoustic guitar player: they're easily 2x the weight of most acoustics.
OTOH, acoustic guitars are light thin-wood soundboxes & pretty damn fragile, which is why you may rarely see violins several hundred years old, but guitars, cellos & basses: not so much. They don't survive. The Godins are wood: take care of them. But by guitar standards, they're built like a tank. Consider them closer to a traditional electric guitar: they're a hybrid but in many respects they're closer to electrics in weight & solidity.
That weight is really noticeable. Not so much that I'm going back to the traditional acoustic for my main play, but I do miss the lighter weight, a lot. It's just the added benefits of the Godin are too much to give up. But I do think about it a lot when I'm playing.
Pro side: I'll second Darrell's comments about playability & ergonomics. Godin makes a dream instrument! I'm used to an Ovation. Ovation makes a very playable guitar: action is good. If the Ovation ranks a 7/10, the Godin is a solid 10/10: they've aced the design. An absolute pleasure to play. The nut is a little wider: most acoustics are 1 & 7/8"; a traditional Spanish nylon acoustic is 2" with a flat fretboard. The Multiac acoustics are 1.8 or 1.9": a really nice compromise. Close enough to make the transition a 2-minute thing for steel string players; wide enough for nylon strings. And the slightly curved fretboard feels great.
I've had age kill the neck of an Ovation acoustic; met others who have lost necks to age/humidity. I've had humidity changes & age split the face plate of my Ovation, too: Toronto's temperature & humidity swings are brutal on fine instruments. (If you live anywhere with a similar climate forget advice to hang the guitar on a wall or leave it out in a stand: keep it in a case with a humidifier instead). The Godin comes with a very good gig bag but I'll be paying for a Godin hardshell case if it travels at all. Learned that lesson.
Tone is good: Godin have used western cedar for the face. The body IS chambered, but it's a shallow box. The back & sides are maple. I'm not a fan of the pin placement for the strap at the top of the body; it results in the guitar hanging like an electric but I don't play like an electric guitarist: my thumb stays planted firmly in the middle of the neck. May end up moving that upper strap pin, but that's doable.
Otherwise I'm OK with Godin using steel folk & electric guitar design with the Multiacs, especially the bolt-on adjustable neck with truss rod. They're perfectly set up on purchase but can be adjusted easily as required. If you opt for a more traditional acoustic, it's worth spending the money for a product with an adjustable neck (still not the norm on nylon acoustic guitars). And some (like Taylor) also use a bolt-on neck now.
Seldom mentioned: if you use this for performances you'll enjoy having an instrument almost entirely immune to feedback. That's a significant benefit.
Speaking of Taylor: they make a wonderful instrument. I almost bought the Academy 12e-N. A terrific instrument, Taylor ergonomics & light. Mid-range ($750 US; over $1,000 CDN at the time) but incorporating ergonomics features Taylor normally reserves for $1500 & up. But the Godin neck was so much better it was an easy decision. If I'd been concerned about playing it without power for social events & performances (camps & some coffee houses or gigging) as I was 30 years ago, I'd have gone with the Taylor. The Godin sounds OK w/o power for practice: you have all the benefits of a Yamaha silent guitar, but this is a MUCH better guitar than the Yamaha - they're not comparable.
If you're looking for something closer to the steel string sound try using Thomastik-Infeld KR116 Classical Guitar Strings: Classic S Series Rope Core Set W/Nylon Tape. These are something of a cross-over. Or just plug it in & modify on the amp. That said I really like the strings Godin is using; don't know who supplies them. I've enjoyed La Bella in the past on a classical nylon guitar but haven't tried them on this yet.
Not addressed: this thing outputs to a midi synthesizer; that's truly unique. The best pairing is with Roland's GR-55 guitar synthesizer. Make it sound like any steel guitar you like. Check out Andres Colin's RUclips vids to get a sense of what that makes possible.
Can you get a better classical acoustic guitar for the money? Probably. It'll be lighter, look more traditional, give you better sound without amplification. But I have yet to find one with comparable action on the neck (they tend to like it high; I don't). Godin's action can't be beat; electrics are a unique plus. Well worth your time to track down a store with stock in one: they truly are in a category of their own.

Darrell your channel is getting better. In fact it's actually a good channel to visit. I enjoyed your low key, "friendly" presentation today. I have been interested in these Godin Nylon stringed thin bodied guitars for a around two years now. But because I already own a traditional nylon Spanish Classical Guitar I have stayed away from the Godin versions.
I like the thinness and lightness of the body and that you can play through an amp or P.A. system. No need for a microphone.
I watched your finger style ans I just may have picked up a new easy to form chord from you. I want to thank you for that. I also found your playing to be relaxing and comfortable to listen too. Keep up the work!

So under appreciated, though that makes them great steals - especially used. I once picked up an ST Signature with AAA top for $600 bucks (CDN in 1999). I felt like I robbed the store, they did not know what they had. I had seen the same guitar go for $1500 later that year at another shop.
Last summer, down a RUclips rabbit hole, I discovered a vand named Shpongle which I fell in love with. It was a two and a half hour concert and during it I saw the guitar player playing this guitar on a few songs. I loved it from the second I saw and heard it but I loved it even more when I saw it was a Godin. I would own one myself if money were no object but I have neither the funds nor the playing skill to justify purchasing one. If I knew how to play better (much better, I only know a few chords) I would make it happen. I personally think that guitar is stunning. On another RUclips rabbit hole note, I recently found this channel and I am hooked! Darrell your videos are amazing, thank you.

I bought my ACS-Slim a couple of years ago... the best purchase I've made. I use mine through my Kemper and it's stunning. I learned on a classical many moons ago before switching over to more electric... and it's been interesting as my muscle-memory has survived a few decades and the narrower string-spacing initially caused some issues, but they've been overcome now.
Beautiful tone! Thanks for sharing, Darrell. Some sounds I can hear all day and never get fatigued. This instrument is included in that list of certain 9' grands, jazz electric and classical guitars, oboe (without the nasal quack!), and the seven pedal harp.

Bought one of these a few years ago. The action was sky high. Tried adjusting the truss rod, didn't help. Contacted Godin and was told it needed neck shims. Totally unacceptable for a guitar at this price point. I immediately returned it. It was my dream guitar. Not anymore.
The "Jazz" part still sounds Latin to me, maybe more like Bossa Nova.

he's playing American style bossa nova. A Brazilian would call it jazz, an American would call it Latin. Somewhere in the middle I guess :)

I only know about this guitar because alote of Mexican big artist are using this guiatr brand. Natalia Lafourcada has a semihollow one and it looks amazing.

This style of nylon is extremely difficult to find. Tim Henson has one that's made by Ibanez. This one in denim blue flame is my fav tho, esp also makes something similar to this it's like 600-700?

I love this guitar ..for so many years.. i think only godin typically have sound like that.
I wanted to hear it unplugged, acoustic style.
So yeah... Godin is just a BIT out of my price range. XD There's also a Taylor similar to this, but that's not exactly any better on the wallet.
There are a couple of other manufacturers that I've found that make a similar product now, for much less. Harley Benton has a Nylon and a Steel version called the Nashville I believe, and they're in the low $200s. And these others seem similar, but the sort of confuse me on branding... They are the James Neligan EW3000CBK (Steel string) and Angel Lopez EC3000CBK. I've seen them in the high $200s to high $300s range. I hope that helps anyone who wants something like this, but is friendlier to the wallet. I still can't really afford these myself, but I could definitely work up to them more easily. Taylor and Godin are sort of difficult for me to justify for my life and current skill level.
What do you think Darrell... any chance you could try one or two of these out to compare?

I 've got a 1993 Multiac that gets years on a single 9V battery through my Roland GR-20, or about eight months through the Acoustic electric 1/4" output, but you are crazy right about the play-ability.
I have a black one. After hearing and seeing Steve Stevens Flamingo A Go Go album I thought I gotta have one with a Roland GR-30!! I use it in Church a lot.....

If you choose to use that guitar with a Roland GR-55 guitar synth I recommend installing a RMC-OPT-01 buffer in the Gr-55. It will eliminate any ghost notes. I have a Godin XTSA and am considering getting the nylon string as well.

C'mon Darrell! I had trouble smuggling in my last Godin Stadium HT MN! The nice part about having a few guitars though is to my wife, they are starting to all look the same. She did notice the cherry red SG Pro last time though - probably not a great choice if I want to be discreet. Great review and now I really want one of these.

Darrell i have just got the black multiac ACS slim and love it. However i was wondering if you could possibly share the tab with me of the intro piece you play. Love the sound. By the way i am putting mine through the TC Electronics Bodyrez, it makes such a difference. Wonderful guitar, next is my Roland GR 55 to do a bit more looping with it.

I just grabbed one. If you live in Canada especailly these guitars are insane for the price. Made in Canada and USA; no morally questionable labour great quality and a price that makes you not feel too bad about modding it if you want!

Hi i just bought the same guitar and it has a mild earth sound so i was wondering if this problem is caused because i do not have a Ground instalation at my house ?? Or it is caused by a
damage on my guitar ??? Actually i have a Fender which does not have that problem when i plugged into the same amp at my house

Have you covered the Yamaha Silent Guitar nylon string? I have the steel string SLG-01 and it's my favorite guitar of all. I bet it could give this guitar a run for its money in its plugged-in sound, playability, and looks.

Did you go with the "slim" model like I did?
Yes. The only issue that I've had is reprogramming muscle-memory on some old classical pieces that I learned a few decades ago, all down to the slimmer nut-width. No problem with new stiuff just the dusty, old pieces. Like you, most of my time is now spent on electrics, so this is a God-send. Thanks so much for publishing. :)

Washburn makes a very 👍 good version and its a lot cheaper. I bought my first Washburn by accident a few years ago. Boy I did a very good thing. They don't really need mods!

Does anyone know how this guitar sounds unplugged?
From what I heard the ACS is quite quiet unplugged. The grand concert and Nylon SA are semi-hollow and louder unplugged
I just bought the Godin A6 Ultra...very disappointed on how it sounds unplugged...but plugged in it's great! Very versatile but still trying to figure out the sliders and how to adjust...Godin has very poor customer service...unlike Martin...very helpful
