    I just ordered a used ACS Multiac but have no synth. ... I tried a cheepo to put a Fishman triple play on (maybe) but it was not accurate at all above the 12 fret. Back it goes. I am about 1/10 skilled as the gent in this video. Is there any way to work on other sounds without the Roland products? I contacted Godin as well and hope there is some connectivity to the computer etc. Also how was the music recorded and sequenced to play with it?

    • @JohnnyCoxMusic
      @JohnnyCoxMusic  4 года назад

      Hi David. I recorded the music in the video by connecting the Roland GR-55 to an audio interface and recording it in Pro Tools on my computer. It's just a basic home recording setup. The Roland GR-55 has a very basic looper, but it wouldn't be capable of doing what I did in the video. It only give you about 20 seconds of Loop time.

      @@JohnnyCoxMusic Thank you for your reply and information. So I think I understand the basic configuration. Anything going into the computer has to go through and interface.... pin 13 to USB? But maybe the 55 has that automagically. :-)

    hello. I just bought a godin acs slim. but I can't find any amp that sounds good with it. and I mean acoustic amps, of course. the sound feels "harsh". but if I connect it to an interface and some studio headphones it sounds great. just great. The question is: how to correctly amplify this type of guitar so as not to depend on headphones? I also used an interface against some full range studio monitors and it feels harsh too. it's as if two preamps were colliding, the one for the guitar and the one for the amp itself. only some headphones make a difference, as I told you. how did you achieve it? In other words, how do you make that guitar sound live? thank you so much

    You might consider running this through an acoustic guitar incidence response (IR)

    • @JohnnyCoxMusic
      @JohnnyCoxMusic  5 лет назад +1

      Hi John. Thanks for the suggestion. Maybe you could. Although I'm not sure how well it would work with a nylon string guitar. I've never used them before, but as far as I understand it they're used for making steel string electric guitars sound more like acoustic guitars.

    I currently only play a mini acoustic guitar from Maton and do a lot of looping. However i do own a GR20 guitar synth and am loving the sound of your nylon with the synth. I just hope i can get use to working on a nylon string guitar as i have never played much nylon string. What would you suggest. Just love your sound

    • @JohnnyCoxMusic
      @JohnnyCoxMusic  6 лет назад

      Hi Wallace, thanks so much for your kind comments. I think you'll find the ACS Slim is a very playable guitar. It's setup for people who don't usually play nylon. The setup is most similar to an electric guitar in terms of the scale length, string spacing and body dimensions. I'm sure it will feel very different to your Mini Maton but I imagine you won't find it difficult to adjust to the different dimensions. I hope that helps!

      Hi bud thanks for getting back to me so appreciate that. I play six days a week in London and I do a lot of looping, however I find I am getting bored with what one can do with just an acoustic guitar, so hence why I git the GR 20 second hand. It came with the GK2 which I find is very bad as far as latency goes and I was advised to get the GR 55 with a multiac Godin and a friend of mine has the one that has the normal nylon neck and he recommended the ACS slim. So I was delighted to find your clip using one. Do you also use the GR for looping at all. Many Thanks for your kind assistance will order next month 👌👍🏻

    • @JohnnyCoxMusic
      @JohnnyCoxMusic  6 лет назад +2

      Hi Wallace. No problem, thanks for getting in touch. I do use the GR-55 for looping when I'm practising at home. I don't use it live because I find it much easier to plug the GR-55 into a loop pedal. It's a bit easier to operate, rather than trying to do everything on one pedal. Also, the GR-55 only gives you a relatively short loop duration. I think it's about 20 seconds. It's ok for most loops, but it doesn't work if you want to do anything longer than that. The latency on the GR-55 is really good compared to its predecessors. You can sense the latency on some of the patches, but on others it seems like there's no latency at all.

      Yes I hear what you saying. I must admit that I also prefer a separate loopstation. I actually have both the RC30 and RC 300 and they really are great units I must say. For vocals and guitar effects I use a TC Helicon Voicelive 3. Also a great unit and that has a looper in it but once again it’s pushing too many buttons to get to where I want to be. So I hear you that the separate looper is way better. One thing I like about the Godin is that you don’t have to use the GK pickup system it has the built in 13 pin pickup. Can I ask if you have the 13 pin cable plugged in is it still necessary to have the normal guitar jack plugged in if I just want the sound of the normal pickup in the guitar or do I have to have both plugged in. Many thanks for your help and please do a few more videos on the Godin. Love your sound. Maybe a looping video. Would be great

    • @JohnnyCoxMusic
      @JohnnyCoxMusic  6 лет назад

      Thanks Wallace. You don't need to use the jack input at all when you're using the 13-pin cable. Have you seen this video I did with the ACS Slim? ruclips.net/video/vb6G8G_ewU0/видео.html. I'll try and get some more out soon. Best wishes.

      Hi David. The drums in this video were not recorded with the GR-55, but everything else was. You can make drum sounds with the GR-55, but it would be a lot of work to put together an entire drum track with it. I hope you enjoy it when it arrives!

    • @JohnnyCoxMusic
      @JohnnyCoxMusic  3 года назад +1

      Mine is very well set up. I would say that the action is lower than the average acoustic nylon string guitar. I haven't altered the setup since I've owned it. It has a truss rod which you can adjust if you want to mess about with the action.

    I wonder if you could assist me here. I just got myself a Roland GR55 and a Godin ACS Slim. I have been trying to get the sensitivity right and am really struggling. Especially with sounds like drums giving out notes that I did not play and pianos sound like they being pitch bent. It’s frustrating as it was not a cheap investment and I feel somewhat disappointed. Could you maybe share your set up. I am a ginger style player doing mostly pop songs that are looped. Many Thanks

    • @JohnnyCoxMusic
      @JohnnyCoxMusic  5 лет назад +1

      Hi Wallace. I've also experienced a lot of the issues that you mentioned. And I think they're issues that you will come accross with any guitar synth. I also tried messing around with the sensitivity when I first got the pedal. But found that it didn't make much difference. So I can't offer you much useful advice in terms of setting up the GR-55. The thing that makes a huge difference is string damping. The unwanted noises and pitch bends are happening as a result of small unwanted noises coming off the strings and confusing the GR-55. You could try using FretWraps, although I never use them. But for me, I just spent loads of time with the GR-55, working out what does and doesn't work with different patches. Some techniques work better than others, and some patches are more temperamental than others. The piano patches, as you mentioned are hard work. But the best way to get a clear sound through the GR-55 is to play as clean as you can with your right hand technique and avoid any unwanted string noise. Hope that helps!

      Johnny Cox Music Ok I hear you Johnny. Thanks man I thought it may have been something I was doing wrong or my setup. It’s quite a challenge but I can also see that once you utilise the GR with looping the scope is endless really. I guess it’s back to the drawing board and relearn to play a little. I am also considering adding the normal ACS SA that has a slightly wider to my ACS Slim. I’m wondering if the spacing of the strings would add some benefit in some way. Just a thought. Anyhow thank you so much for a great channel. 👍🏻👍🏻
