I feel the same. I've got an OBS Z71 and plan to keep it. I don't think anyone has made a truck that compares to these in terms of looks, except for some of the Ford models(the f150s and raptors are pretty sharp) but definitely nothing from GM. Their full size designs, other than the model after these have all been pretty horrendous!
man i'm not into GM ANYTHING but this truck is up there as one of the greatest of all time no doubt. so beautiful. that white extra cab with the ATs looks so good and is exactly how i would set one up if i had one.

I just bought a 96 gmc half ton fully loaded 308,000 miles for 1500 bucks. Only a couple owners and it was religiously taken care of and looks and drives like it has 100,000 on it runs amazing I love it
I still have my pops 94 Chevy Country Coaches K1500 as a daily driver with now only right at 90 000 original miles and yes it's like a TANK and drives smooth as silk with that automatic transmission and wouldn't take NOTHING in the world for it either and if something breaks on it it's totally worth fixing rather than being in hock for $600 or $700 dollar month payments !!!
I have '94 350 TBI Z71, bright teal - call her The Hulk - just rolled over 250k miles. No rust from Arizona. Such simple and great trucks - incredible that there are so many still on the road today.
My dad bought one of these brand new in 94 with the z71 package and dressed up nice with factory chrome with the 5.7 and Ive bought 10 different trucks and he still only has his 94 The original plug wires lasted 25 years and 244,000 miles Its pulled boats, campers etc and till this day It still dont show any sign of giving up

The GM 5.0L was a DOG power wise. I’ve owned two 98 GM's, one with the 5.0L and one with the 5.7L and the difference is night and day. I still own the 98 with the 5.7L, 209,000 miles and it still runs like a top with zero major repairs. Love driving it, even 20 years later. All I’ve ever done that one was a fuel pump and an alternator. Other than that, just regular maintenance and they’re indestructable so long as they are cared for.
I've owned both the Vortec 5.0L V8 (305) and the Vortec 5.7L V8 (350) .... They towed about the same and seat of the pants feel was about the same... Only the 305 got much better fuel economy.....Both had 3.73 rear axle ratios ....You must have had a Dud of it was a "Dog"...
I have a 97 k3500 crew cab dually and put a 12 valve cummins and a manual transmission in it. Built for running , driving , and WORKING. Thats it. It does that very well.
@@screamingscarecrow4251 guess where I’m going to go to buy my next truck in the future 😆. Bringing it back here but this time I’m coating the underside to make sure it never rusts on me. Used trucks are terrible around here. It’s sad because I have a great 98 z71 fully loaded for its time and if it wasn’t so full of rust and faded paint it would be perfect. Probably be on the road for another 20 years yet.
@@screamingscarecrow4251 I would bet if you dragged a few of those trucks frames up north, you would have a lot of buyers. We have trucks that look brand new with perfect bodies and interior but the damn frame is rusted to dust. It seems to only be the 1500 trucks, I’m guessing 2500 and 3500 have a thicker gauge steel.
After working at an auto auction for a few months I've come to deeply appreciate how strikingly lucky I was to receive a 98' z71 from 2,000 dollars for my birthday 6 years ago. They really, genuinely actually don't make them like they used to.
I'm more of a Ford guy, but that is a VERY nice looking truck, and I'd like the 305 too. I like the last of the Ford "brick" bodies that still came with the 300 straight six in 1996. Didn't like their new shape, but GM had it right. Regardless, the 90's were an incredible decade for pickups!
Nice to see Mr. Truck and Andre together always makes me smile. They are some of the best driving pickups and sport utility trucks, the new ones tow more but these are really nice. Mr. Truck as always is very smart to say the best is up to your opinion not his, he is not starting no fires, smart man. Good job on camera and editing, stay safe and healthy guys.
I ordered and bought my 4x4 1998 GMC 2500 Extend cab long bed with a 5.7 liter with the snow blow preparation in 1998. I still drive and own the truck today 12.06.2022. It's been a great truck to own. I don't think I'll never sell it.
I have a low mileage 1998 LT Z71 in this exact color. It hasn’t run in a few years, but it has been a wonderful truck. I drove it on multiple trips from San Antonio to Seattle and Seattle to San Antonio and it was just amazing.
I have a 1997 K2500 with the big block 454, it's also fuel injected. Mine also has the towing mirrors, which look much nicer. All of the later years had both mechanical 4wd and buttons as an option.
I was 11 when I drove my first vehicle and it was a 97 gmc sierra 1500 took her out into the back forty in the middle of winter and drove her back out. It was a lot of fun.
I know that this truck is the best because I bought one new in 1995 (K1500)and now it has 295,000 miles on it without any engine problems. I use it today as my daily driver.
I have a 1999 Chevy Tahoe 4x4 with the 350 Vortec Engine, dual A/C unit and heavy duty towing package. It is my favorite vehicle of all times. It runs beautifully, handles perfectly, muscles through mud, snow and ice, and tows like a diesel. It has leather interior, an aftermarket DVD player for the kids, and plenty of storage space. For the most part I consider it too good to even use except when absolutely necessary, so it has only 66,000 miles on it…..and it should last forever. It is completely reliable, comfortable, sturdy and scrupulously maintained. I bought it new, paid it off years ago, and wouldn’t sell it for all the money in the world. I have owned multiple chevy small block 8 cylinder engines, including a 283, a 305, two 327’s, and two 350’s, and they were all the best engines I ever owned….the 350’s having the most grunt, and the 327’s being the most badass. My 305 was rebuilt at 290,000 miles and had so little cylinder wear that an overbore was not even needed. I re-ringed the standard pistons and it is still powering my 1985 Firebird today. I love 4 cylinder Honda and Toyota engines, but nobody builds a better 8 cylinder than Chevy.
My dad had a blue late 90s Chevy Silverado with the access cab. He special ordered it just the way he wanted it. I remember the weird push buttons on the HVAC controls and the odd shaped Delco stereo. Wish I the truck to remind me of him.
That generation Chevys are my favorite especially if it’s a Z71. My uncle had a maroon 1998 GMC Sierra extended cab with the flow master exhaust and it was a very nice truck and it sounded pretty good. Unfortunately he had to sell it.
I have the 98 z71 with the 5.7 at 257k and still runs like a champ. I have done a ton of work to it, so I'm willing to bet the guy I bought it from would never recognize it
Having the distributor in the back is the best vs the front moisture is harder to get to especially off roading. My friend had a F-150 with 351 hit puddle too hard it would die! His lifted 86 350 we would drive through lakes never died. I have a 99 3500 dump with the 350 vortec its been amazing for 10 years ive overloaded it millions of times. My 98 had 200k i traded it in was still running mint. My 93 had around 200k and it never got a break. My buddy had one 300k never let him down! And plowing visibility was amazing!
What a coincidence! I also have a 1998 Chevrolet Silverado K1500. I just recently put the SAME front hitch on with the red tow hooks that I had spray painted last year! Very cool seeing the same setup on another truck. Only thing different is I upgraded my tow hooks to d ring tow shackles giving my truck a much more aggressive look.
Last year I sold my GMC YUKON it was a 21. Nice SUV but I made the move bought a 97 GMC Shortbed with 350 restored with 88k orginal miles a Texas Truck. Also a 95 Tahoe 2dr. Low miles as well . Texas Truck as well complete restoration. Didn't look back. These particular Trucks by GM were the Sweetspot. The best they ever made. I love them. There Goodlooking and Reliable and Simple. Not a Computer Couch. I have no regrets .
I was in a similair situation bought a brand new 2022 nissan frontier pro4x great truck ive had nothing but nissan trucks but got tired of getting little dings from using it as my work truck found a 2011 chevy silverado with only 53k miles 5.3 4x4 on market place got it for a steal eventually started driving the chevy when i wasnt working because i just enjoyed the simplicity of it wound up selling my 2022 nissan frontier just before the market started tanking in 2023 made money off of it never looked back got 62k on the silverado now and shes been an awesome work truck for my business
I have had 2 c1500s. Sold one to my buddy he still has it and I still have my other one. The one I still have I pulled out of the shed it was stored in while I was stationed in Germany and all I had to do was change the fluids and I drove it 1600 miles to Georgia without a hick up.

Just ordered a set of 906 Vortec heads and a custom black 40-20-40 low-back seats to go with the blacked out interior of my 93 Sierra K1500 5.7. Still have a bunch of work to do but now I'm on to getting the drivetrain where I want it. I love this truck.
My step father has a 92 same body style but with a 5.7 5 speed. It has 500k+ miles on complete factory drivetrain, although i believe he had to rebuild the rearend once. Motor and trans are factory never rebuilt i honestly believe it still has factory seals even head gaskets. It is still his daily driver.
Had a s10 blazer from this generation. Comfy, rugged, fairly easy to work on. I'd like to get one of these rigs again but first things first, need a carb conversion, a stand alone trans controller (or a 3spd), and a cable for the front axle and get rid of the vaccuum. Totally agree with the steering and suspension.
I like dodge but they rust really bad in that year and not to mention the dash. The f150 in that year had the 5.4 and I don’t need to say anymore about that. My grandpa had a Chevy same year as the one on the channel and it is still going with 300k on the odometer.
I’ve had a 94 k1500 z71 for 8 years (was my first truck) it was same as this extended cab short bed except last year of the old interior witch I love a lot more And it has the tbi 350 I’m planning on restoring it frame off and put a ls in it I will forever have one of these trucks in my opinion best cheap trucks ever made
Yes a 94 interior was awesome! Dad had a 94 2500 and it way the best buckets and an actual useful center console. I hate the center console in my OBS 2000 Z71 Tahoe. Absolutely worthless lol
My dad used to have a Ford from around the same time I think, well it died. Sold it and got a different one, idk if it was this truck (2500) and it runs. It still runs, kinda. Unhappy as heck but still a work truck. Rusting, missing things, broken things you name it. Idk how many miles but it probably has a ton.
My dad bought a 95' brand new, it was the first vehicle he ever saved up and paid cash for, and his first brand new one at that. It was a great truck, the memories of sitting in car seats in the back and popping open the little side window and traving to wave my fingers at other cars haha. Personally, I like the 2nd gen rams much more from that era. But really all the trucks were well built.
I have a 1996 silverado c1500 with a 5.0L. It's a 2wd vehicle but the outside looks great and the inside looks brand new. Under the hood is all shiny and she don't drip any oil at all. It's got 126k on it, and at the tender age of 62, I've decided she's my last truck, and that's why I just painted her and changed all the molding and chrome.
The squeak is from the power steering pump pulley being out of alignment with the belt. Use a wheel puller and pull it out just a hair. Had the same problem.
Still with me is 1996 Silverado 250O along with 5.7 L Engine Vortec. It’s current mileage on Odometer reads 440,000 KM. It’s running exceptionally well. Chevrolet ought to keep building this type of Chevy Pick Ups I’m telling you .....
The only thing you really need to watch out for with the 1st generation Vortec V6's and V8's when they switched to that disastrous DEX Cool is the crappy nylon intake manifold gaskets.
I have to say that the GMT400 platform was well thought out to say the least. Owning a 97 Tahoe, has made me start looking for a 99-2000 K25-3500. the old 5.7 has more bottom end torque than my LQ4( it has more on the top end). My vote is for the GMT400!
I have a 1997 K1500 Silverado Z71 with a 5.7 :). Bought it new and have 223K on it. Sad to see it start to rust, the engine has been a rock , but replaced the transmission at 180K. Unplugged the antilock system at around 120K, because the Kelsey Hayes system wasn't that good and to replace it would have cost a fortune. Best looking truck in my opinion from the 90s. I called on the GM Fort Wayne Assembly plant, but my truck came from their Canadian plant. Love my truck and looking forward to the next 100,000 miles.
It wasn't a 98' but my stepfather bought a 93' Cheyenne in 94' I believe..it was the blue W\T model..Vortec V6 auto reg cab long box.. was there with em at dealership during the purchase...pretty much Base model..drove it till 2004' no problems!!😎
I got a 1996 gmc sierra k1500 my truck has the 5.7 350 vortec and the engine has almost 295 thousand miles on it and it’s still running strong besides the transmission needing to be changed cuz the person who had it before me was trynna be a show off had the truck in 4wd and tried spinning the tires in 4wd and tore the gears out of it but the transmission that’s in it now shift so good I love it hopefully the transmission I put in it will last for the remainder of the trucks life which will be a long time hopefully I just need something to get me through some deep snow if I want it to I don’t tear my truck up or go wild with it occasionally I do show off but like loudness cuz it’s straight piped can’t beat that
I have a 93 Silverado K1500 Z71 xcab and I'm the 2nd owner. I've replaced the original engine because the crank main bearings were worn out. I bought a new GM Goodwrench 350 and it is very dependable and parts are everywhere if needed and they are affordable. Transmission has been replaced and also rebuilt . Just watching out for different things and keeping it regularly maintained and it will last a long time. I'm planning on keeping my truck and not buying anything else. It's very reliable. 👍🇺🇲
The 5.7 very durable motor, minus bad injector system, once replaced with better spider, it runs much better. Cab corners and rockers rust out. But other then that, my vin R 350 just wont die! And ive put it through alot just having fun, check any vids i have, last year model 2000 obs 3/4 ton reg cab 4x4 fun toy!
I had 370,000 on my 1996 k2500 5.7 vortec and I only had to get rid of it bc my mechanic cracked my block at the starter bolts and it kept eating my flywheels! I love these I’ve owned 4 just bc I can’t go without them some worse than other but I promise no matter the engine size I’ve been super impressed with all of them!
I have a 97' Silverado K-10 longbed, people ask me if I'm selling it every now and then but it's a keeper. I use it to haul wood, coal, hay or for a cruise. It has a 31 gallon gas tank on it but I need to fix or replace more than a few stuff on it, mostly front end suspension parts and the power steering pump. The engine is still strong and running👍🇺🇸..

Their full size designs, other than the model after these have all been pretty horrendous!
The one with the 350 engine and manual transmission was the very best
man i'm not into GM ANYTHING but this truck is up there as one of the greatest of all time no doubt. so beautiful. that white extra cab with the ATs looks so good and is exactly how i would set one up if i had one.
I bought a 94 silverado short bed step side with the 5.7 in 1994 and 200+K miles so far and still going strong.
Not sure how Mr Truck is surprised it made it that long? Not many quit below 300,000 miles. 😉
I own the first edition of the GMT 400. it's a 88 Chevy Cheyenne k1500 4x4 with a V8 350 throttle body with 207,000 original miles and still runs like a champ
I love that Chevy I have a 94 Chevy with 4.3 has 250,000 miles don’t leak a drop of oil and hadn’t did much to it besides the regular maintenance and a water pump that’s it
I got 4 of these obs style trucks all 4x4s and one with a 454 and man GM really knew what they were doing with these
I just bought a 96 gmc half ton fully loaded 308,000 miles for 1500 bucks. Only a couple owners and it was religiously taken care of and looks and drives like it has 100,000 on it runs amazing I love it
I remember wanting one of these at bad as a kid, the last year, 98 with the 5.7. just so classic and bullet proof
'99.
Yes 98 on truck Tahoe 99 good motors
I have '94 350 TBI Z71, bright teal - call her The Hulk - just rolled over 250k miles. No rust from Arizona. Such simple and great trucks - incredible that there are so many still on the road today.
My dad bought one of these brand new in 94 with the z71 package and dressed up nice with factory chrome with the 5.7 and Ive bought 10 different trucks and he still only has his 94 The original plug wires lasted 25 years and 244,000 miles Its pulled boats, campers etc and till this day It still dont show any sign of giving up
My 1997 GMC Sierra Z71 w 5.7l was bought in 2001 w 54000 miles. It is still going strong 20 years later towing my travel trailer with 247,000 miles...never giving it up
there a great truck , I still have my 1991 GMC single cab short box in Alberta Canada , I worked for the oil & gas companies using those trucks , there are like a ROCK .
GMT400 WAS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING.
MY 91 K1500 Stepside Single cab is Too cool.
It’s a 5 speed, tilt, cruise, and gas sipping 4.3.
I have a 92 k1500 single cab fleet side z71 with the 5.7. Have had it almost 20 years and no major issues.
sounds like a really nice one i had a 91 also k1500 ext cab SB with the 350 and the 5lm60 gen 2 4spd with od manual i loved that truck a lot definitely miss it actually 4/20 reps it being 2 years since i wrecked it
It's awesome seeing Mr. Truck on the channel!
Thanks
The GM 5.0L was a DOG power wise. I’ve owned two 98 GM's, one with the 5.0L and one with the 5.7L and the difference is night and day. I still own the 98 with the 5.7L, 209,000 miles and it still runs like a top with zero major repairs. Love driving it, even 20 years later. All I’ve ever done that one was a fuel pump and an alternator. Other than that, just regular maintenance and they’re indestructable so long as they are cared for.
230 hp and 285 lb-ft ain't bad in 1998
@@steveheighton5971 I agree, but when a modern day Honda Civic is pushing 300Hp, it brushes the ego a bit, lol.

My 98 has 356k and she’s still running on all 4 smooth 90mph on the freeway my favorite truck I’ve driven.
I have a 97 k3500 crew cab dually and put a 12 valve cummins and a manual transmission in it. Built for running , driving , and WORKING. Thats it. It does that very well.
Best Truck GM ever made if you can keep the frame from rusting out!!!
I’ve never had that problem in the south 😁
That’s the only problem with mine lol.
Down here in the south I never seen a rusted out gmt400. They are everywhere.
Own a 95 Silverado 6 cyl with 8' bed. 190k miles. 21 mpg hwy 16 mpg around town. Great truck!
I just got myself a 97 C1500 Stepside and what a beauty she is!
Glad Mr. Truck is hanging out with the TFL boys again!
Thanks
The visibility in a 90’s Chevy is so refreshing compared to current trucks. Got my Dad’s 94 V6 work truck, and I love it.
I have a 96 suburban k1500 with over 202000 miles on it and still runs perfect. Passes smog 100% still.
I have the 98 z71 with the 5.7 at 257k and still runs like a champ. I have done a ton of work to it, so I'm willing to bet the guy I bought it from would never recognize it
I use to have a 98 350 single cab Silverado with the vortec a beast
This old truck would be a lot better of a truck if it had the 350 instead of 305
-stares in dropping a 350 in my 1990-
The 305 votec is 230 hp the 5.7 is 255 so wich engine makes more power per displacement ?

Bought my 97 Silverado 7.4 with 240k miles on it. Yet to throw a code and gets about 14 mpg. Love the thing!
Best looking truck ever.
I have had 2 c1500s. Sold one to my buddy he still has it and I still have my other one.
The one I still have I pulled out of the shed it was stored in while I was stationed in Germany and all I had to do was change the fluids and I drove it 1600 miles to Georgia without a hick up.
I had a 95 1500 with the older TBI 350 and it was a great truck. Definitely the best truck GM ever made in my opinion.
My 94 GMC k1500 with the 5.7 is still going strong at 325,000 miles. I don't know if it was after it was made but it has a spot for a goose neck

My 97 Z71 blew the motor at 104 thousand miles. Loved the light blue color.
I like dodge but they rust really bad in that year and not to mention the dash. The f150 in that year had the 5.4 and I don’t need to say anymore about that. My grandpa had a Chevy same year as the one on the channel and it is still going with 300k on the odometer.
Haven’t watched the video yet, but yes. These trucks are. They will not die
I’ve had a 94 k1500 z71 for 8 years (was my first truck) it was same as this extended cab short bed except last year of the old interior witch I love a lot more
And it has the tbi 350 I’m planning on restoring it frame off and put a ls in it
I will forever have one of these trucks in my opinion best cheap trucks ever made
Yes a 94 interior was awesome! Dad had a 94 2500 and it way the best buckets and an actual useful center console. I hate the center console in my OBS 2000 Z71 Tahoe. Absolutely worthless lol
Realizing you shouldn't have gotten rid of it... :)
More Chevy K1500 and Silverado videos please!
Chevrolet ought to keep building this type of Chevy Pick Ups I’m telling you .....
have a 1999 Tahoe 5.7 4X4, is bulletproof but had to replace starter and flywheel, shocks, and the paint delamantes but everyone loves it.
one of my biggest regrets was buying a 1995 GM truck that had OBD-1.5. NOT OBD-1 or OBD-2 but one point five! Common scanners are not compatible!

Just watching out for different things and keeping it regularly maintained and it will last a long time. I'm planning on keeping my truck and not buying anything else. It's very reliable. 👍🇺🇲
My dad and older brother have had like a dozen of these.
