  • Hop aboard for a short ride on the Ghost Town and Calico Railroad at Knott's Berry Farm in Buena Park, CA! Rio Grande Southern Locomotive number 41 pulls a matched set of 4 pullman green coaches around the loop of track.
    Bonus: See if you can find the typo!

    I've been to Knott's Berry Farm a hundred times. Used to live in OC for over 40 years. I've always loved Knott's for the train, Calico Mine Ride and the Stage Coach. All three attractions are my must do rides when I visit.
    This video is just wonderful. Knott's somehow still manages to make me feel like it's 1880 all over again.

    when you look at the grade this engine used to pull from Dolores over Lizardhead down to Telluride over Dallas Divide to Ridgeway, she sure gets a nice leisurely stroll now days.

    I think KBF has my favorite park train because it's an actual proper steam consist with detailed and accurate paint, cars, and operation as opposed to those brightly colored circus trains you'll find at Disney. (Don't get me wrong though, I love Disney's too)

      Only sad part is that their track dosent allow their enige to really show off her muscle I always loved dollywood big strong mikados that climb a tough 5% grade but I do agree knotts have the best coaches

    Between Knott's Berry Farm and Disneyland just a few minutes a way, there is quite a lot of steam railroading to be had in that part of SoCal.

    Do you know that Ed "Big Daddy" Ed Roth, (Rat Fink) was a sign painter at Knotts for a while? (I have 2 and soon to be 3 shows on him on my channel) Anyway, Ed was there, at a bad time in his life, when he was at the top of his fame, but needed money. Long story. But Knotts has taken all the signs he painted there an put them in a "gallery" in the back area. Anyway, great video!

    Knott's Ghost Town and Calico RxR runs 2-8-0 Baldwin SerNo 5780, built 1881, in Rio Grande Southern livery as Fleet No. 41, Class C-9. Exactly when was she converted to oil? (I presume her originally built as a coal-burner, as the petroleum industry had yet to take off while she was under construction at Matthias Baldwin's old works, Philadelphia, PA, USA.)

    • @CoasterFan2105
      @CoasterFan2105  8 лет назад +3

      +B. C. Schmerker Yes, 41 and the other locomotive they have, number 340, were both converted to oil some time between 1951 - 1952 when they were moved from their original home in Colorado to Knott's Berry Farm in southern California for use in the park.
