Laurie was great. It was her FIRST time and she'll get even better with experience. It's great to have an actual gymnast guiding you into the heads of other gymnasts as they perform their routines. Way too much squealing for a professional commentator IMO. There are other, more professional ways to show excitement. Plus it irks me to no end when they're like, She has a 1 point lead going in to the last rotation. NO -- she has a 1 tenth of a point lead. Huge difference and it's not asking too much for commentators to read numbers correctly.
There really was not a point where she was overly negative. She is also friends with all of these girls, especially simone as they were teammates in 2016. The dominoe effect thing is very real though. Just look at the French team in qualifications. They medaled at worlds last year but didn’t make finals this year, largely due to mental pressure, they had multiple falls and major mistakes on every event
Laurie was one of my favorite parts of the Olympics. Her insight is from experience!! Not only did she positively speak on USA Athletes she did so on many countries. She spoke facts from experience and did a phenomenal job. I hope to hear her more ♥️
And don’t at me, I’m not being a hater. I appreciate all the work they do. I just don’t think Sam P is getting enough credit for her amazing work as a commentator. She explains everything gives credit where credit is due.
I love sam too but I will take Laurie’s commentary specifically on beam. Sam says “the beams only four inches wide” several times during most beam routines and for whatever reason it grates on me. I also love that laurie explains a lot more on what’s going on in a gymnasts head, like bringing up the dominoe effect. Her commentary is also live so it’s harder to be less emotional whereas Sam’s can be edited bc it airs hours later
