    Getting back in the kayak might be a bit difficult with your dive gear on. Might be best to take your bcd off at the surface before climbing aboard. You guys should do a tutorial on diving from a kayak.

      yep, you need a couple of dekitting lines attached, once BCD is off, kicking up with fins on is easier than getting back onto a rhib

      If you don't know kayak reentry, why would you even think of taking on this mission?

  • @jjohn8989
    @jjohn8989 5 лет назад +3

    Just have to practice your Deepwater re-entry (getting back into kayak while in deep water). AND have good enough balance to hoist your gear back on board

      I was thinking the same thing. These are skills that are, in my experience, not practiced as often as they need to be.

    My dad and I made Kayaks back in the 60’s attached them together with a couple of boards and put a small outboard motor in between them for diving. Close to the same time a guy in my dad’s dive club (Roy) started making a kayak designed for diving called a “Royak”! Still available!

    We r trend setters: Jetski dive. Works great. We dive all of the wrecks off Miami, Fl. Fast enough to avoid the pop-up thunder lightning storms.

    Hubby and I are on a dive trip in Negril, and literally just were talking about trying this! Only question is, how do you keep the kayak from floating off while you’re under? Do they make anchors for them? 🤔

    • @garreydove5054
      @garreydove5054 5 лет назад +1

      Yes there is kayak anchors. They are a weird lil unit but they are great

    • @andrewkearney6999
      @andrewkearney6999 5 лет назад +2

      Normal set up is a very light anchor attached to a short length of chain (to make the anchor lie flat and bite), attached to a dive reel and then clip the reel on to a buoy at the surface, then clip the whole lot to some sort of quick release attached to the kayak - you need to be able to quick release (look up kayak fishing videos and sites) but you can easily come back round and retrieve your anchor because its all attached to the surface buoy. If relying on the kayak to get back to shore, I carry the anchor (you can attach a small DMSB to the anchor as a lift bag to negate most of the weight but its only a kilo or two) and treat the kayak as an SMB - or clip your line to the anchor and reel off, or a combination of the two - move the anchor from spot to spot and then reel off it. If solo diving and relying on it still being there, I like to be attached to it !

    Kayak an scuba are a great fit depending water/weather conditions, excellent locations supporting smaller boats! Cool! If you want to step down cabin an cook dinner, maybe boat bigger than kayak needed!? Haha! Tim

    I have a fishing kayak and scuba gear, but i havent mixed them yet. I plan on it this summer, but its hard getting a buddy with a kayak and dive gear. Aside.. lots of spearfishers fish from kayaks too. They seem to like it.

    You two check out kayak with two separate tail sections an 10hp outboard mounted on transom between the two tails, add that to scuba an you got Some Fun!

    My primary issue with kayak diving is emergency procedures, how does one manage to rescue a diver to shore with only a kayak rather than being able to haul them onto a rib/larger boats.

    • @andrewkearney6999
      @andrewkearney6999 5 лет назад

      better than on a shore dive is the answer - I use the kayak to extend shore diving and make it safer, but that (for me) is the limit - I'm not sure that the exertion of a long paddle is a good idea from a DCS perspective anyway

      @@andrewkearney6999 I would agree, treat it like cave dpv, never paddle/scooter what you can't swim/rescue a diver from.

    Paddle boat with a trolling motor and a used truck trailer maybe about $1500 total. Better than a kayak for scuba diving more stable.

    As a free diver unfortunately not scuba. I have 3 friends that come out and we all use kayaks this summer (Australia) we will have tow along kinda trailers for some of out gear.... spear guns and spare/bigger fins but it makes it alot easier to get places without towing boats and paying parking fees in trailer parking.

    Hi Guys! Many moons ago the sit on kayak in one brand I saw when I was youngerish had built-in scuba tank placements in them, and most of the sit-on kayaks these days don't . But that was a little bit before the internet, iphones and Samantha Fox, the sit-on are obviously the better as far as access goes as they can't sink when you haul yourself onboard. I guess a lanyard from bow to stern would be an asset fastened to the centre of the kayak.
    Who is Samantha Fox?
    Look her up on the internet or ask Google with pics.
    Like catching some of the info you put out, Wet is Best!mmmm Cheers👍👍👍👍👍🇬🇧👍🇦🇺✌👌

    Utterly hate this double act format - self indulgent and painful. And not much useful info in this video either. I kayak, dive and kayak dive. A wide beamed sit on top kayak works well. A difficulty in the UK is exposure protection - the sort of suit needed for diving does not lend itself to paddling out any real distance. However for shore diving type distances and depths it does work reasonably well. You can also use the kayak as a decent mount for a dive flag, and by picking up the anchor (which need only be very light for a kayak) you can use it as an SMB surprisingly well - drop anchor, descend it as a shot line, and then either carry the anchor or clip a line to it and reel off to ensure you do not get separated.
