  • This is a quick method to make a simple tote bag with French seams and reinforced straps for a very neat and strong finish.
Easy to make and only takes about ¾ yd of fabric. (0.7 meters)
Great item to sew and sell or to give as a gift.
    Cut 2 x bag pieces 17.5” (44.5cm)wide x 19” (48.26cm) long
    Cut 2 x straps 4” (10cm) wide x 26” (66cm) long
    Finished bag measures approx 16” x 16” (40.6cm x 40.6cm)
In this video, I used cotton canvas. It's a bit thicker than quilting cotton so will be nice and sturdy as a grocery bag.

A bit under the weather these days. Since this is a very basic project , decided to make a tutorial without voiceover.. What do you think?

      Lovely!
      Also, good background music choice.

@@NotchesSewing I have no preference for simple projects like this one; the music is nice, though. Having said that, I would prefer voiceover for more difficult projects. Also, your voice is super pleasant and you explain the steps quite well, so it's an asset to the video. 🙂

I made this last night. I had to be scrappy by using a literal paper ruler and free hand cutting with office scissors because I don't have any tools. I was praying it would not look too bad, and it came out amazing. If I had not known the way the fabric was cut uneven in multiple ways, I wouldn't have guessed by the end product. I just got into sewing and this was my third project, after a head band and a small draw string bag. I definitely recommend this video for beginners. Thank you for taking the time to make this tutorial!

Thank you for this quick tutorial. Although your instructions are clear, I still prefer to get voice instructions as there are additional information you provide while you show us instructions as you do it. For me it helps a more when I listen to instructions especially more intricate patterns but for quick and easy tutorials like this, no verbal instruction is also good. Hope you feel better soon. Looking forward to seeing and hearing you in future tutorials. Thank you for sharing your expertise with us who just started sewing.

What a great tutorial. This is perfect for a beginner like me. Just a quick question, since it is using cotton canvas, do I need a heavy duty needle and thread to accomodate the thicker fabric? Thanks Angela, hope you feel better soon 🙏

I didn’t with this project as the canvas wasn’t very thick but you certainly can use a heavier needle and thread for stronger seams. Thanks for watching😊
