Boy that looked like a royal pain. I just noticed my steering box is leaking on my blue truck...can't quite tell where exactly but hopefully it's an easy fix. Thanks for the video.
Multiple questions 1 how many miles are on ur truck or how many sense that’s been last replaced ? 2 has the seal held up good ? 3 do they sell the seal at any auto shops ?
Hello! The truck has under 200k miles and this is the first time that seal has been replaced. Still no leaks yet but it's only been a month. The seal kit is made by Gates (part # 351320 ) so your local Orielly or Autozone should be able to order it in for you if they don't have it in stock. I ordered mine from Amazon, less than $11.
I think the heat you were putting on that was potentially causing your problems getting the seal assembly out. Heating the male threads was expanding it tighter in the housing, just my opinion.
Very useful video as I'm about to do this job on my Dakota, which has the same box. Thanks! And extra points to you for the Red Green quote!
Thank you for video it helps me fix my 2001 dodge ram 2500 4x4 same leaking issue on my truck, got part #
I’m going to need to replace the same seal on my ‘84 D150.
This video should help a lot.
Awesome! Good luck!

I just did my steering box re seal this weekend. When I smacked that retaining nut the whole thing spun loose instead of what happened to you.

did you have to bleed the air out

Yes, if I remember right I re-filled the reservoir and turned wheel all the way left and right a few times and checked level again.
