+Justin jonston Yeah, its way worse than most people say it is ;) If it had been recorded, mixed and mastered properly some of the riffs might have sounded heavy. And they should replace the drummer now. He cant play anymore.
+Justin jonston It's shit no exeption. Metallica have only made 5 good albums and those are the 5 first ones. St. shit is terrible. Sure lode and relode are not that good eather but this is the album that ruind metallica forever.
+David 55509 you must walk in metallica shoes to understand st anger . the riffs are good , you can litteraly breath what they are feeling ineach song, but if you are looking for a problem .. there is the one, only big problem of st anger : bob rock . shorter song, more guitar ( in st anger chorus the guitars disappear in the mix ..) and st anger will be perfect
08:28 best moment on the album besides the maniac part on All Within My Hands (feel wise. This album is full of excellent riffs) Edit: I've discovered the part after this riff, which is basically one of the heaviest riff sections ever done by Metallica. I think that riff should have been included too but anyways great work man!
St. Anger always sounded like a demo to me, and still does. I'm sure a lot of people here have already said this, but if they would have further edited the album and got rid of a lot of overly repetitive parts along with fixing some of the sounds -coughsnarecough- it would have been a pretty decent record. Probably a little short for their tastes, but look at Beyond Magnetic. It was short and yeah, most of the songs weren't as good as what were on Death Magnetic, but I enjoy listening to Rebel of Babylon occasionally. I'm just sitting here waiting on their next one...almost ten years later...
Honetly, this album to me is the heaviest one from Metallica (yeah, and also that snare). The people who hate it, don’t know how does the true heavyness sounds like.
Awesome! So much f'n hate on this album. I personally think this album is awesome considering all the stuff going on. And I loved the new sound in the album. The snare sound was awesome in my opinion. Everything was awesome basically. Even though there were no solos, it was amazing. It turned out amazing! \m/ Great video!
I think exactly the same, that snare sounds so good on songs like Some Kind of Monster, My World, All Within My Hands... and for me, this album have one of the best songs Metallica had ever composed, musically and lyrically: The Unnamed Feeling.
wrong. Metallica intentionally took a totally different approach creatively to this album. You either like it or you don't. Personally, I like it, but then again I like more styles of music than just traditional Metallicas mainstream sounds.
just wanted to say a true heart felt thank you. this Metallica album receives alot of bad reviews and comments and as you go throug9h the riffs, it just reinforces what I have always believed. This album is a piece of art that deserves to stand alongside this bands other works. Its a badass album
I honestly feel like James was just noodling the 0-3-5 chord progression in drop D. Most of the riffs all sound alike with slight variations. I feel like All Nightmare Long is when they got used to drop tuning and how to write in it.
Its Frantic in My World trying to tame Some Kind Of Monster, the Invisible Kid and St. Anger wont leave me alone, I've got The Unnamed Feeling while I look out my Dirty Window as they try to Shoot Me Again as I Purify All Within My Hands, Sweet Amber is there for me! Thats a like on the video bud, absolutely awesome job! Thanks for the share!
Superb tone!! And really precise playing, you know exactly which notes should be muted and which shouldn't. One of the best Metallica riff videos I've seen.
It's actually really easy. I may be a bassist but I hold my bass that low and it's really easy and comfortable. You get to play really fast and don't have to use the whole forearm to pick, you can use just the wrist. And it's a lot better to downstroke with.
I feel like this album would be so much in the nature of playing it with a cello (since the natural tuning of the cello is Open C, I can use the first 2 strings to get a amortize of these riffs). Thus, I want to do something I’m coining “Re-Covering” these songs, where I get rid of 0-3-5 riffs (except on Some Kind of Monster) and on Invisible Kid with Drop G# I’ll just use an Octaver to bring my instrument’s digital tuning that low without noodling my strings. Some songs could really be brought back with some Orchestral concepts, changed lyrics and make the snare a little ‘thumpier’ to get the extra oomph . The tin can effect of the snare could be emphasized to a progressive style while keeping the ol’ fashioned snappy snare to get some rhythmic ‘wall of sound’ going on, like Gojira’s first album kind of heaviness.
Like seriously the guitar at the end of sweet amber is one of the best drop riffs I have ver heard, people just can’t get past the production sound, even though they literally said “we wanted it to sound like 4 angry kids in a garage”
I always think that St Anger could be a short EP, if all the heavy and fast parts are edited together and leaving out all the nu metal parts Are you playing off on Frantic?
Short EP??? Nü Metal??? Man did you see the rehearsals dvd of St. Anger?? This is just that, full Anger and Fury, mainly of James and all his arsenal of riffs. Kirk following as he can. Lars frantic at the drums. And Robert getting better on bass lines already composed and played by Bob Rock on the album. Result: a fucking list of song included on that album, underrated by some people that expects Metallica would do the same shit as in the eighties!! Evolution is the key, one band never can do the same material in almost 40 years of carreer!!!
Probably the last truly genuine metallica's record. You can feel the anger, the messed up things going on. I think the therapy they had as a group during this record may fixed the issues between them, and some personal issues, but they are not angry any more, specially James. So they can only make happy music, or music with an over-cliched universal message. They are not special any more. But I still love them and the music will be always there for me.
Gobi Pup There’s something with art in which the person creating such music per say has to truly feel what they’re playing. Classical pianists, cellists, violinists do it all the time, and a lot of metal artists like how Metallica approached St. Anger do it too. It seems that to them they have to submit to their own fans’ demands for their ‘classic’ thrash metal sound just so they can make a profit. They need some sort of musical enlightenment, and I bet that’s what they’ll do on their next album, after HardWired and DM’s ‘unoriginalia’ era of their music.
it sounds quite angry and pure... when I look at this, I picture this small inside-war that happens because of all these problems in life... and this hoodie you're wearing makes it look as if you are just a young teenager, caught within this. incredible, if you really think about it. could write a book about this one, too. perhaps somebody who has pictured this while smoked/drunk/whatever might actually have some talent to want to really write a book about this if you really think about it. great potential. if I inspired somebody, just please let me know- I would love to also work just a little bit of some details, if you like. thanks! cheers.

St. Anger has great riffs. Too bad the production is so bad. Combine that with the snare, and you can barely hear the guitar lol.
I honestly love this album so much. Amazing lyrics, banging riffs, excellent drumming (even with that snare) and a very powerful sound overall.
Could not agree with you more man, St. Anger became somewhat of a weird classic most hate and some love.
It's definitely that all we listen to in our closet
Seriously tho, I don't want my dad knowing I like St. Anger, considering he's the one who got me and my brother on metal! Definitely a closet album!

exactly. with some adjustments the album would be amazing
Someguy528 It already happened, just not from Metallica themselves. Search up "St. Anger 2015 re-recorded".
