Hi Marta, have u met any Spanish speaking Filipinos? Sadly tday it's no longer widely spoken.
Heres a history about the language:
If you go back 90 years ago (1920) it was the language of the Majority. According to the census in 1905 70% of Filipinos were Spanish speakers (10-15% used it as as their First language while 60% used Philippine Spanish as Second Language) but The use of Spanish started declining in the late 1920's due to the wide suppression by the Americans and the imposition of Tagalog as a National Language in 1936. The suppression was successful and by 1940 native speakers declined from 15% in 1905 to 3% in 1940 even though it was still the language spoken in Urban Manila. The language further declined in WW2 where many Spanish Speaking Filipinos died during the bombings of Manila. Somewhere between 100,000-600,000 civilians perished. Ultimately Spanish was removed as an Official Language in 1987 by President Cory Aquino.

I am from Zamboanga City, Philippines, and we speak a dialect called Chavacano. It's a Spanish Creole! A mix of Spanish and Filipino. Ola, como estas?

Yez! it's so sad to see.But if you go to the province there's a lot of old people left who where fluent in Spanish.
Bravo! You two are now 'balut conquistador'...very brave to try local food...my daughter was adventurous in Spain by eating the local Valencia Paella (with rabbit)....learning the local language means a lot & is greatly appreciated!!!!

Jay Angelo yes, I agree with Saudi boy. She just wanted to try driving it, not renting it. And you're right Jay Angelo, the man wanted to take advantage of them knowing that they're foreigners and that they didn't have the slighest idea about the systems in our country.
Alexandra Jones let's not try to bedevil these drivers. If she wrecks the jeep, 500 is nothing compared to repairs plus days of not earning as he waits for the jeep to be fixed.
Still 500 is not a reasonable price. FILIPINOS are known as FRIENDLY to visitors. Real Filipinos don't ask money from a visitor. :)

when you eat balut,you open first the bottom part of the egg and make a small hole and put vinegar and sip it.....there are many spanish speaking people in zamboanga,its more likely spanish language.. 😊😊😊😊
I used to zip all the soup first before I will put salt. I don't use vinegar.

I wish someone (a local) did teach them how to eat Balut. They might appreciate it more, and maybe even like it. They are humble and respectful explorers though, especially Marta..

In the early of the video when you both saw the jeepney was transpired so called the JEEPNEY from the american jeep left it to the Philipines after ww2. Actually, the first jeepney converted for a public vehicle was only a 4 seater. Now what you saw is the modern conversion longer by us for many passengers for transport.
