  • Football stadiums come in all shapes and sizes. But not many resemble log cabins! In this video I travelled to the south of Scotland to investigate Creetown Football Club.

Fantastic video! I'd love to see you give more exposure to the South Of Scotland sides. Lochmaben FC are my parent's local club and sometimes it's even a struggle to get players so I'm sure they'd welcome any publicity.
The South of Scotland is also extremely beautiful with a really fascinating history and gets overlooked as everyone tends to just blast through it on the way to Glasgow and Edinburgh and then onto the touristy Highland places.
    Great job!

I live in the English Midlands and tended to blast up to the Northern or Western isles in my camper. We "discovered" Wigtown because our adult daughters wanted a Scottish holiday and it was the only place which had a cottage that would take 3 dogs at the time that we wanted to go. We loved it that much in the area that we returned to Dumfries a couple of months ago and will be back to the cottage early next year. I'll try and squeeze a 10 day or so camper tour all along the coast to the Mull of Galloway in May. It's great as its not packed out like the NC500.

the hotel in the background (Ellangowan Hotel) is where they filmed the pub scenes in the original The Wicker Man movie, re-released this year for its 50th anniversary. The big granite ball was sculpted by Japanese artist, Hideo Furuta, who lived at a nearby quarry for many years.

The South of Scotland League isn't really a tier 6 league. It should either be a standalone league with clubs that want to progress applying to the West or East leagues or a lower tier league with promotion to the next tier which would be either West or East. Now Creetown have the SFA licence they might be able to push on, a run in the Scottish Cup would help financially, even if they can make the 1st Round.

That's a really nice looking town, for as small as it is. I think living in the U.S., usually towns that small over here are on the verge of drying up, with most residents being 50+, with plans to live out their lives there, while the youth moves to a bigger city. It ends up leaving a lot of the towns to have buildings crumbling and decrepit, but Creetown looks nice and still kept up.

I hate play offs & feel the league tables are too small , playing each other FOUR times then after a long season play each other in play offs again! Your season gone in two games. But A pyramid system is in place & a South team at least has the opportunity to go up. If the tables were longer, it should be automatic.

I must try and catch a match when I do my South of Scotland tour in the camper van. At least I won't have far to stagger back to the van after a few post match beers*. My wife wants to revisit the Creetown Gem & Rock museum which is well worth a visit for anyone in the area.
Annan Athletic is another club in the south with a campsite adjacent to the stadium. Ross County in Dingwall is the same but that's much further north and a lot further up the pyramid.

Sorry to be a pedant, but unique is a binary proposition.
There are no degrees of uniqueness. It either is, or it isn't, and every football stadium, by definition is unique.
Most unusual or most unconventional might be a better description.

Borders is in the Southeast of Scotland and contains places like Hawick, Peebles, Galashiels and Eyemouth.
Creetown is in Dumfries and Galloway Region along with Stranraer, Castle Douglas, Gretna, Annan and Dumfries itself. All the SOSFL clubs are from towns and villages in D&G region, Borders teams play in the EOSFL.
