That’s kinda funny, I have my great grandmothers old bible that of course is in rough shape, there are places you can see where she stitched it back together. She was 101 when she died in the 50s. Anyway.....my point is she has dried flowers in hers also

It amazes me that kids this generation has everything..but never think back to how hard their grandparents and greats had to go thru to give them the "easy" life they have now. I'm always appreciative to my parents and I'm 1st generation... we grew up harshly poor and very discipline in the 80s.

Super popular in the states that were the original 13 colonies. In order to be in the group you have to prove your heritage stems from someone who was in the revolution

I’m late to the comments but just watched today. I’m a family historian. I’ve traced my family back to 1700s on many lines. I have pictures, documents and legal records of all kind, neatly organized.
But I’m pretty sure none of my adult kids will want it. It’s a shame, but a reality that most surviving children don’t have the interest or time or space for all this stuff. I’d donate to a historical society to preserve this history. Great video.

I just disposed of 320 yrs of family history in papers and history book mentions because no one in the family wants "That Stuff" to keep. People now live for the moment and future. At 82 yrs I don't feel that way but if it's not wanted away it goes because I can't afford storage fees.

When one of my nieces was looking for scholarships the DAR provided some. Love of family history varies from generation to generation, just like love of heirlooms (e.g. old cookware and family China, and well-crafted furniture). Handiwork is currently not valued because it is too easy to buy new goods.

I feel sorry for those who disregard the family history and what is left behind by loved ones, I think it shows them to be shallow and selfish to be honest. I revere my family history which passed from father to son from about the 2nd century to the present day, but if you look at the men in our family most of them have looks in common and personality traits too.lol. I love all the little ornaments, and the little book ornament was lovely, I've never seen or heard of them before. I used to patch trousers and jeans so they lasted longer as they were then used for working in so what the problem is especially with all the clothes shops shut I don't understand. Take care and stay safe please everyone Mary-Ellen UK ps Love and hugs to you and George Jeremy Mary-Ellen UK

In all honesty and this is just my opinion. The reason they probably left it behind is because they don't have the same interest in it that other family members had. I have two family members that have traced two different parts of my family going back to great great great grandparents on my paternal grandma and paternal grandfathers side. It is something I have interest in as well but not everyone is like that. I also come from a family of vets so tracing it back it important to me. You are right, it is a lot of work, the generations now don't seem to have the same interest and if they do it is very few and far between.
