I wouldn't say he's underated, he won the best actor award and was nominated for it other times. Maybe some people don't recognize him in some roles because he plays vastly different characters.
I met gary oldman in 1997, he was in front of me on line at a pharmacy in Beverly Hills buying cigarettes...me and my friend politely told him what a great actor he is, and he politely smiled and said 'thank you'....he was this thin, mild-mannered humble Brit....which really puts into perspective how ferociously talented he is
that is awesome - when i see someone famous i really like/admire i typically won't approach them because i am afraid he/she will be a jerk and i won't like them any more. "don't meet your heroes".......
Gary Oldman is one of those actors that are so good I don't even recognize him at first glance. Like I've watched several movies where I didn't know it was him until someone either told me or I watched the movie enough to realize how brilliant he is. He's a chameleon of an actor and one of the absolute best I've ever seen if not THE best.
Wholeheartedly agree. Poor old Shaun Connery complained that he was unfairly treated by the Academy and IF I remember correctly that he should have been Knighted for his services to the entertainment industry?? Please correct me if I'm wrong🤔. Gary has been upfront about his alcoholism and I am a recovering alcoholic. His first movies were in the 70's classed as avant guard. Other actors, I have read, found him so intense to work with. It comes from training at the Academy and a life's passion for his Art.
Gary Oldman. There is no one like him. I've spent the past week repeatedly watching "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy." He is completely mesmerizing in any role he choses. His range is infinite. He takes a role, turns it inside out and makes it as real as anything. In some cases there's good humanity. In others, there is trembling terror. I fell in love with Oldman's Bram Stoker's Dracula while being scared $hitless at the same time.
Gary Oldman is an amazing actor! Not only does he play a character he becomes the character! He is definitely under rated actor. Oldman is up there with Sir Lawerence Olivia
I am a huuuuge Gary Oldman fan. His intensity fires off the screen. However, in “Leon-The Professional”, in my opinion, his most gripping scene is when he confronts Mathilda in the bathroom of the police station. Also, his phenomenal performance in “Romeo Is Bleeding” deserves a mention in this list.
The man is a master at his craft. I roared with approval a few days ago when he won the Oscar. A couple of weeks ago he did a Q & A after Darkest Hour here in my hometown. I was fortunate enough to be there. He seems as nice as he is talented.
@@tylerdordon99 Yes, but the actual character of Jonathan Harker is bland. The much better developed character of Dracula and Oldman's powerful performance pretty much overshadow everyone else in that film. In my view, the situation wouldn't have changed a lot had they cast another actor.
The fact that Gary Oldman wasn’t even nominated for an Oscar until Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy is all the proof we ever needed the Oscars and it’s voters are clueless. Gary Oldman is one of the greatest actors of all time and should have been nominated so many times
You totally overlooked his performance as Beethoven in Immortal Beloved. Most of your picks are the same type of character, and you missed several roles that show his versatility.
Smiley is my personal #1 pick for GO performance. He was breathtaking as the quiet ex-agent. Carried the whole movie without saying much and using almost zero facial expressions. Superb acting
A brilliant actor, when he played Churchill , superb, Drex in True Romance , awesome, what about when he played Beksy in The Firm, 1980's footie hooligan film, quality.
He should have got one for Bram Stokers Dracula. Hell he should have got one a long time ago. He's been looked over way too long. I'm happy he finally got his Oscar.
My personal favorite Gary Oldman movies and performances are: Bram Stoker's Dracula Léon: The Professional The Fifth Element Romeo Is Bleeding True Romance Hannibal Darkest Hour The Dark Knight Trilogy I like him best when he is over the top or Almost Unrecognizable or Unrecognizable.
his Jackie Flannery is my most favorite Gary Oldman's performance...over Dracula, the crazed cop in Leon...even over the Oscar-winning Churchill in Darkest Hour.
So versatile and always nothing less than perfection. As Oswald he could only have been denied the Oscar because of who he is playing. I STILL have trouble at first figuring if it's archive real footage of Oswald or Oldmans portrayal. Enough said.
He was so great and pure in Rosencrantz and Guilderstein are dead, together with Tim Roth. It must have been pure fun for them to play those characters. When Oldman makes the "1st ever hamburger" the childlike joy on his face, so effortless.
If you think about Gary oldmans roles. You got Dracula, The 5th element, Harry Potter. The professional, the book of ELI. And not to mention commissioner Gordon in the dark knight, and that’s just to mention a few honestly. The guy is one of a kind, and incredibly talented.
State of grace classic one of my favorites, so underrated because it was released the same day as Goodfellas, amazing cast but Gary Oldman owned that movie.
He was so brilliant in Meantime, and so young. His character had you really on edge the entire time. I also thought he was fantastic as Joe Orton in Prick Up Your Ears.

He must be a good actor if I never matched the name to any of the characters. I've watched his acting for years and never knew his name and didn't even realize he was the same guy in different movies. Its as if he is a different person in every movie. My favorite is Leon the professional.
Oldman honestly should've won multiple oscars by now
at least multiple nominations.
No not really. Nobody compares to James cagney.
@@ciaran6309 I love Cagney but Oldman is definetly up there and definetly has way more range. The guy can be completely unrecognisable at times.

He’s been my favorite actor since Bram Stokers Dracula.... he’s insanely phenomenal.

Totally agree, my favorite performance of his in one of my favorite movies ever!
Hahaha! and after that he does tend to get a little ... boring :D
I watched an interview he did promoting Leon, he broke his own arm patting himself on the back for pronouncing bingo beengo. What a colossal douche.
Actually the movie got less boring thanks to Oldman's performance; his just overshadows other characters
