Tenby Sea Fishing: Bandstand Rocks & South Beach!

- A spot of Tenby Fishing, along the Pembrokeshire Coast. When it comes to things to do in Tenby, sea angling is right up there for me. Join me as I try my luck at The Bandstand Rocks and on South Beach, where I have caught some nice fish in the past, including Smooth-Hound, Bass, Turbot, Rays, Dogfish, Tope, Mackerel, Garfish, Gurnard, Flounder, Bream, Plaice and more. I love this part of the world, a great place to unwind, a great place to reset body and mind. I shall also be making a video at North Beach, another favourite place of mine!

I'm sorry to hear that Ben, I can appreciate that it's not easy, especially as he only passed away in February. Of course, we never fully get over it but it does get easier, all be it the occasional wobble (it's when I'm out fishing that I sometimes find it hard) Nice to hear that you both watched the videos together and no doubt you have many great fishing memories, these memories will last a lifetime. Look after yourself, take it easy 👍

Good morning Gareth, hope you’re well and on top form?! I really like your easy presentation style, your content is well made including clear audio and your passion for angling is obvious and endearing. Your honesty relating to your fishing, why you do it and the links to you and your Dad all add to the experience. It is no surprise to me that someone was so generous to donate such a sizeable amount following the broken rod episode or you returning it, both lovely gestures. Finally, thank you for showing on camera that to be open about your feelings and emotions is a good thing and that fishing is great for the body and mind. Keep the vids coming and rest assured your time, effort and resources are always appreciated.

When I film I'm just me, there's no act or anything and I'm naturally a deep thinker, hence why I like to talk about Dad etc, I guess I'm quite philosophical too. Yes I was really shocked when that donation came through, extremely generous as you say, there's some good people out there! Thank you, Gareth. It's a great video. Brings back many happy memories for me. As a child my family took are holidays in tenby. My parents rented a house near the beach . It's back garden led down to the rocks and beach. It was an amazing place. At the age of 7 I bought my first rod and reel from woolwoths in tenby having saved my pocket money and from doing jobs in the garden. My Dear Father caught a 6 lb Bass at high tide. He was using ....bacon rind as bait...he was over the moon...bacon rind of all baits.😊 Sadly he passed over about 10 years. I still miss him.❤. That bass fishing trip was 52 years ago and I still fish today. Once it's in your system it never leaves. When I feel sad about me Dad I try to remember the happy fishing trips. A 6lb Bass on bacon rind, now that's impressive, I can imagine what the excitement levels were like as your Dad was winding it in! My Dad also used bacon rind and he caught some nice Congers on it around the Newport area. Ah yes, I can appreciate that you still miss your Dad, it's never easy, although it's great that you have many happy memories of him and no doubt he's not too far away from you. Tidy session we have tolerate dog fish thease days it's just how it is . My cousins boy was bullied at school for his dancing and he ignored it as best possible. Now dances for the welsh national ballet and has represented Wales many tides abroad, literally living his best life and I'm super proud of him as are we all

You certainly bagged up on the doggies, not what you wanted to catch I’m sure but sometimes you just have to fish through them and hope something bigger moves in and chases them off, you got rewarded eventually with the smooth hound 👍

Another great vid, on your own at night and on rocks not always the best but thankfully turned out fine. Enjoyed the location, Tenby a beautiful place. Further west may be a marks for a future weekend trip but lucky with those dogs viewing many videos with other anglers and drawing blanks so lucky with your trip.

Great effort Gareth. Don't dig them dogs but hey-ho, if that's what is there. Took your tackle...just in case. Took your fishing clothes...just in case. Took your camera equipment...just in case. Yeah, we've all been there!
Aye that's it Gareth, it has to be done, I can't help it you see ha! Yes the dogs were in massive numbers and I was surprised I got through them and got that Hound. Also, I lost a massive Hound during the first night session, came off 5 yards out...I sulked and turned the camera off, hence no footage ha! Will reply to your email this evening. Cheers 👍

Congrats on a cracking hound & a bundle of doggies....it's nice to keep those rods busy!!....those spiders can be scary, especially when you see them in their hundreds on the move!!!.....used to be a common sight, but like most things in nature, becoming rarer unfortunately.
I talk to my Dad when I'm out shooting or fishing, all the time....he usually 'gifts' me a perch or a tiny tench!!!...ha!!....but he's always there with me.
Bullies are cowards & ultimately will get found out....to the lad who loves dancing.....keep it up buddy!!
Anyways Gareth, back to the fields, well, hedgerows....couple hundred miles to top this weekend..

Our parents took us to Tenby many times when we were young, my first experience of fishing was from the harbour pier in the evenings. Lots of good memories. Thank you for that video Gareth, very enjoyable for me, we didnt catch 1000 doggies though!

Nice one gareth ,me and the mrs love tenby but i`ve never taken the rods with me after watching this video the next time we go down there it`ll be the rods i pack first. Glad you had some fish though even if you had a shed load of doggies tight lines buddy.

My fondest Tenby fishing memory is when I was catching Turbot on North Beach, using frozen black lug and squid, I had the entire beach to myself, it was a beautiful evening. Thank you Gordon, it was a nice weekend down in Tenby. Young Daniel who's being bullied will hopefully be inspired by the comments on here and hopefully he will carry on dancing. It can be a cruel word at times. Tenby is beautiful, it can get a little busy during the summer holidays but other than that, it's definitely worth a visit. Nice easy fishing off either the South beach, North beach or the Harbour wall. The rocks where I was are a little more tricky underfoot but fine. Cheers for watching 👍

Great video as always, nice smooth hound, and at least the doggies keep the rod tips moving. The £300 donation shows there are some good people around, and you returning it shows what kind of man you are. To the lad being bullied keep doing what you like doing, i would much rather be someone that has something in there life that they like doing and are good at than someone full of negativity who thinks its ok to bully

Thank you Marc. Yes it could have been a Huss, it was a belter. That same night I also dropped a big hound around 5 yards from the rocks, I was gutted, although it was nice to get that other hound the next day. Those rocks in particular...anything can turn up, it can be awesome on the right day. Cheers as always, take it easy 👍
Great video Gareth and lovely location. Lovely smoothound but the dogfish become a pest after a while. Never saw dogfish being caught from the shore years ago they were always a deep water fish. Also catching bass was difficult but they seem to be far more plentiful these days. As for bullying, we’ve all been there and I think social media has made it worse. Difficult I know but bullies must be confronted in some shape or form. They are the cowards! I lost my father 37 years ago and I miss him every day. I am sure you will agree your dad is your best mate❤. I am sure he is looking down on you and would have been immensely proud of your achievements. Life tends to look a lot shorter as we get older so we must make the best of every day. Kindness costs nothing! Best wishes, Dave, broadstairs

Another wonderful video, Gareth! I recently travelled back to South Wales from China to spend time with my family, who I hadn't seen for five and a half years. I brought a telescopic spinning rod with me and headed to Tenby for three nights. What a beautiful place it is, eh! I tried lure fishing from the rocks in front of the bandstand. I must say I was a bit nervous climbing down, it's certainly not for the faint-hearted. I only had a light backpack (my fishing rod stowed inside) and I found it a struggle, to be honest. This got me thinking about how you managed it with all your equipment? Oh, and I blanked the entire time, but I enjoyed it, nevertheless.

Yeah it doesn't matter about blanking, just nice being out there isn't it, spending a few hours next to the water, that's what it's all about. Haha I won't lie, it's not easy at times with all my equipment and I sometimes wish there was something with me to help but there we are. If the truth be told I take too many risks on the rocks etc, I need to reign it in a little bit. Hope all is good with you, enjoy the weekend 👍

Two things Gareth, the young man who loves Dancing, one of my Grandsons is in a school band and he loves it he also loves mythology and does a lecture in the school library and is only just hit his teen years, remember nothing worth having comes smoothly, but it is worth fighting for in life, the other is Gareth your father is most definitely with you, around when you are talking, behind you the double glow rod nodded and you caught the nice smooth-hound that was almost like your father was there with you and nodded his head, agreeing with you, Life is what you make it never allow someone else to make it for you, may your god be with you, Jim from Scotland, also remember young man never let them win you can learn as much at home as they try and take away, best wishes for the future, fight back with a smile and walk away if you can.😊
