Fame comes with a price that has to be paid by the children of the famous. But does it compare to kids growing up in a home where the family is poor, the dads a violent drunk and the moms in jail for writing hot checks no! If Dale Sr didn't have the balls to put Teresa in her place over his kids then that is on him as well. He sounded like a good dad sending a gasman to pick up his daughter.
No I’m pretty sure that was Dale’s decision to send Jr to military school. Dale Earnhardt dropped out in the 9th grade and he didn’t want any of his children doing the same
Teresa actually wanted to try public school or another private school. Earnhardt was a hard ass for a dad, he gave them the belt for any disobedience. If Earnhardt put his foot down Teresa obeyed. Teresa taught him business ideas, Earnhardt made the calls, thus why everything crashed when he died

I think the mindset has definitely shifted through generations. The hurtful parts removed in favor of more positive reinforcements. Looking back throughout history, considering facts like the Great Depression, Spanish Flu, The Civil War, I can’t imagine how serious life was back then. Not so long ago I asked a 95 year old friend what he thinks has changed most throughout his life. He quickly replied, “That is simple. Nobody has to work anymore. I remember clear back to when I was three years old. I had to put the work in or I didn’t eat. May have been small tasks. Pulling weeds out of the garden, or picking the garden, feeding the chickens things to that nature but it was work and we did it all day long or we didn’t eat.” That frame of mind is so much more serious than what we live these days. My father was raised by uncles after a stormy broken home between his parents. I got a chance to meet those uncles when I was 12. They were as stern and serious as any prison warden portrayed on television. One in particular seemed to be exactly like the warden on Shawshank. So yes, my upbringing was much the same with my father. No if’s ands or buts, everything brought forth consequences. The few successes were minimized. About the only thing I could do well was run very fast and that didn’t last forever. When I started getting out run in junior high that was about it. I now call it being raised by anxieties.

David Lusk different generation of raising kids I suppose. Just cause they don’t show it or act like it doesn’t mean they don’t but whatever I was raised by the same type of father. At the end of the day it’s what they think of him not anyone else and they have lots of love for him with a lot of hurt feelings as well.
@@JLC87420 very true, always have love and respect 4 our parents!!
David Lusk they don’t always deserve it
Dale Earnhardt was one of the best driver but screwed up big time as a father
I wouldn't necessarily say that . His children seem to be doing pretty good for themselves. Talk about an understatement . At last count Jr. was worth $300 million...
@@chrisshockey5845 shitty parents can have good , successful kids. Dale sucked as a father
@@bdix42 - Totally agree. Because Sr. was such an indifferent father it made Kelley and Jr. more independent. They had to be more mature than their age, and they didn't want to repeat their dad's parenting style themselves.
So sad, never thought about their childhoods😔😔😔😔😔
Great sister-brother relationship...they were blessed to have each other...
Love the conversation Dale. I appreciate you all sharing.
Not really a Sr. fan.
Really not a Jr. fan.
But after watching this huge Kelley fan!
I could listen to Jr. all day. What a wonderful human being. Jr. did Joe Rogan's podcast and it was amazing. Thanks for sharing these stories bro.
I can totally relate to Dale and Kelley. I grew up in Hickory, not far from them, and during the same time frame. That is just the way it was in that part of North Carolina for all of us. My dad was just like Dale explained, there wasn't even a smidgen of a chance they were going to take it easy on you if you got in trouble!
I enjoy Kelley and Dale stories.
There's nothing more Real in this platform than the #DaleJrDownload. The family casserole dynamic brings every pot on the stove to a boil. Every ingredient on here makes it great. Thank you, all!
