Part of why Dale jr doesn't remember could be because of his many concussions from his racing career.. glad Kerry can help him remember those old stories

I visited Dale Earnhardt's Chevrolet dealership in the early 90s during one of my trips to FL. I remember seeing Kerry and Dale Jr and got to talk with Dale Sr for a few moments because I had a yellow '63 Chevy Impala SS 409 on my car-carrier and a black, with flames,'39 Chevy Coupe on my trailer. Before long, most of the employees came out to see the cars that I was hauling. Dale Sr asked if I wanted to trade the '63 SS 409 car for a new Lumina. I said yes if the Lumina was a 2dr, RWD, and had high horsepower V8 in it. He wasn't amused and told me to be on my way down the road.
I have been to that dealership, was told about the guy trying to fire jr. I also have some pictures and ink pens sales slips. The manager told us about Dale sr. signing autographs one Saturday all day long, that people were lined up all the way across the river bridge, and Dale would not stop until he signed everyone of them, thats why everyone loved him.
I remember watching HSN or one of those channels they had Sr on.....he said "if ya cant get an autograph on something and you want it done just send it to my dealership with return postage......be patient but it will get done!"

imagine being the guy that fired junior in that area. and then watching dale become the biggest thing in nascar despite not having a ton of success. it musta just ate that man alive. lol. its pretty clear looking back that dale simply was not committed in the way like johnson or knaus or some people are. he was given everything. and just wanted to live life. be a normal guy. he didnt want to be his dad. and thats why hes so damn lovable. the guy coulda been a workaholic at hendrick and brought down a championship. he was just to happy being dale and living for all that.

"We have a new service manager coming in and he's really going to turn this place around" -- as a mechanic and service writer for a Dodge dealer for about 30 years I used to hear that at least once every 8-10 months... One of them told us he's going to turn this place around or heads were going to roll.. He just didn't say it was going to be his head. Brought back old memories listening to dealership chatter.
I used to hate that crap. They're only idea was to take away privileges, more work and responsibilities without more pay or start cheating the customers to bring in more money. All I remember about them was that I outlasted of them all.
Me too. Spent decades at a single Chrysler dealership. Just like you say, every year at the most, there would be a big meeting after work , and another announcement that a new manager was coming in to "straighten this place out". All I had to do was wait them out, and the only changes that occurred were more manager changes.

I grew up working in my Dad’s company, in the warehouse, and let’s just say, Junior and I dealt with it in totally different ways. I was petrified of messing up at any moment, because I didn’t want to hear the “Boss’s kid” thing. I’ll give him all the credit in the world, he leaned in to it.
I never watched NASCAR and I really only knew about Sr and Jr because in the late 90s, all you had to do was turn on Sports Center and they’re talking about Dale Earnhardt. I don’t even know why RUclips put me here, but I have really enjoyed watching these two brothers reminiscing about growing up. They just seem like really great guys and it sounds like they grew up like pretty much the rest of middle class America. I might even look up Jr’s podcast and check out a few episodes. Good stuff!

As a fan I've always looked at you Dale Jr. as a super star racer and a famous person known by millions of fan. It's really cool watching your podcast for the first time and seeing the normal guy in you and Kerry as well. I had a dysfunctional family upraising and at the time when you feel like its hell on earth, looking back and now as adults, I personally think its what makes us who we are today. I remember coming in there to help my buddy Barry Reece with the special edition's for a short while. I still remember Kerry hangin w/ us...and sometimes...late at night, I STILL wake up w/ heartburn from eating at Drums. Barry told me of a hilarious story about Sr. calling in reference to their (then) new paint shop. Hopefully, God will see fit for me to run across one of you'ins to confirm. Dale....you will remember me as his friend who, like an idiot felt like I needed to launch into a ridiculous "pass in the grass" soliloquy being an Elliott fan....man, sorry bout that...I was a pup dude...lol. Great interview ya'll ...so great to watch!

I was young but I never met your dad but for some reason he had a special place in my heart and mind. Racing has never and will never be the way it was when Dale Sr. Was making his moves. Being a friend after you raised your child is fine. But when you are trying to be a friend of a child you forget that the world doesn’t care about them. It’s your duty to prepare them for the world. Hell if my mom tells me to take out the trash when I’m at their house I do it lol. And she is still not really a friend.
@@mikem6280 I've read many articles about what a bad father he was. A lot of what I read came directly from Dale Jr. Just from this interview alone he didn't even have a relationship with Kerry until he was 16 years old. He was a better father as he got older, but when he was younger, not so much.

I worked with a mechanic who got all the other mechanics riled up about something. Led them all up to the bosses office. He held the door open for everyone to enter. Once they were all in the bosses office he closed the door and went back to work leaving them alone with the boss. The boss was not to happy with the group. Those were the days.
After watching this video with Kerry and the one with Kerry and Jr first meeting have to be the best two shows I've seen on here. Kerry is really a cool dude and and be proud to call him brother.

Ole Ralph raised Sr. the same way. Mostly only gave him advise on life and let him figure it all out.
Earnhardt was my favorite driver until 2001, but he was not a good father.

I've read many articles about what a bad father he was. A lot of what I read came directly from Dale Jr. Just from this interview alone he didn't even have a relationship with Kerry until he was 16 years old. He was a better father as he got older, but when he was younger, not so much.

I worked with a mechanic who got all the other mechanics riled up about something. Led them all up to the bosses office. He held the door open for everyone to enter. Once they were all in the bosses office he closed the door and went back to work leaving them alone with the boss. The boss was not to happy with the group. Those were the days.
Its 3 AM I have to be at work at 6. I can't stop watching this exchange between Kerry and Jr. Hope there's more to come.
