Dale Jr. & Kerry Earnhardt: We Were Little Sh*ts To Each Other

  • As Kerry Earnhardt continued to grow closer to his Earnhardt side he eventually began living with Dale Jr. in the doublewide trailer across from their dad’s shop. Find out what Dale did in the middle of the night that pissed Kerry off. Who caused the phone bill to be so damn high? They explain. When Kerry didn’t pay his share of a bill once, you won’t believe what Dale Jr. did and how Kerry responded.
Stories about working together at the dealership start rolling next and we get both sides of the story about Dale Jr. getting fired.

I visited Dale Earnhardt's Chevrolet dealership in the early 90s during one of my trips to FL. I remember seeing Kerry and Dale Jr and got to talk with Dale Sr for a few moments because I had a yellow '63 Chevy Impala SS 409 on my car-carrier and a black, with flames,'39 Chevy Coupe on my trailer. Before long, most of the employees came out to see the cars that I was hauling. Dale Sr asked if I wanted to trade the '63 SS 409 car for a new Lumina. I said yes if the Lumina was a 2dr, RWD, and had high horsepower V8 in it. He wasn't amused and told me to be on my way down the road.

I never watched NASCAR and I really only knew about Sr and Jr because in the late 90s, all you had to do was turn on Sports Center and they’re talking about Dale Earnhardt. I don’t even know why RUclips put me here, but I have really enjoyed watching these two brothers reminiscing about growing up. They just seem like really great guys and it sounds like they grew up like pretty much the rest of middle class America. I might even look up Jr’s podcast and check out a few episodes. Good stuff!

Thank you Dale and Kerry for sharing these personal stories with us. As nascar fans, fans of you and your dad, its really cool that you guys let us be a part of your private lives and childhood stories. As a fan I've always looked at you Dale Jr. as a super star racer and a famous person known by millions of fan. It's really cool watching your podcast for the first time and seeing the normal guy in you and Kerry as well. I had a dysfunctional family upraising and at the time when you feel like its hell on earth, looking back and now as adults, I personally think its what makes us who we are today. Not sure if you race on iracing much lately, but i hope i can race against you someday when and get my rig set back up and get my irating up to above 10k. Thanks again for opening your door and sharing you personal life stories. 24,48,88,3,25 huge fan

Dale I really love hearing about your dad man. I remember the day I heard he had passed and for some reason I cried like a baby. I was young but I never met your dad but for some reason he had a special place in my heart and mind. Racing has never and will never be the way it was when Dale Sr. Was making his moves. Thanks for sharing this with us. It’s very special.

I absolutely love this footage and makes me very happy to see Kerry. He looks just like Dale Sr. If we as fans are so happy to see Kerry then I'm sure it's something Jr absolutely loves. It's his brother who looks just like his father. We need to see ya more often Kerry.

Kerry. Wished he'd had a bigger chance to race with good teams. Listen to them talk to each other. Earnhardts and good ole' Southern boys. Kerry so looks like Sr. It makes me think about my memories. Please respond to that message I sent you through DirtyMo, Jr. "I didn't know how else to show you I loved you." and Kerry is Sr to the core. You can see it. This is awesome. I love it.

Very cool to see this side of him. Kerry seems a real humble down to earth fellow as well. Thanks for sharing this Jr & Kerry.

It's worth suggesting Kerry's adopted father was probably like most adult men. He probably had pride too. You don't have to be the nascar champion to have an ego and have self respect.

I remember coming in there to help my buddy Barry Reece with the special edition's for a short while. I still remember Kerry hangin w/ us...and sometimes...late at night, I STILL wake up w/ heartburn from eating at Drums. Barry told me of a hilarious story about Sr. calling in reference to their (then) new paint shop. Hopefully, God will see fit for me to run across one of you'ins to confirm. Dale....you will remember me as his friend who, like an idiot felt like I needed to launch into a ridiculous "pass in the grass" soliloquy being an Elliott fan....man, sorry bout that...I was a pup dude...lol. Great interview ya'll ...so great to watch!
