Tannis actually *does* state, either vocally or in mission text, that the loot we get *can* be brought out into the 'real' world. it's not just gameplay, it's lore
I feel she is just a memory in his head, MAYBE a sentient one at that... So three minds in one body now, with Maya possibly being a calming voice for the two, more than an entity that can simply be brought back out of his head. Although weirdly with all the hijinks and shenanigans throughout the series, I do feel there is definitely some lore friendly way to bring her back, though I am sad she had to go in the first place, especially the way she had gone out. Sadly it just wouldn't feel the same if she did return, and people would absolutely bash it if they DID simply retcon her back into existence. Also a little sad they changed the scene after her death from a proper funeral and character development for the kid, to whatever that was we got on the ship. Though here I have been thinking maybe, and I HOPE, that they fix that in the next installment. But all one really can do is hope.
She was my favorite character and to and her death is the reason why I won't play 3 so yeah I would like to see her come back then I can keep playing the series
They really need to just somehow bring the memory of Maya into reality and handle it the same way the MCU handled the revived Gamora so far. Maya wouldn't have her full abilities because she's essentially a clone, and would have to learn who Ava is again. I genuinely don't think the fourth game could work without the BL2 cast to take over the Crimson Raiders, and I really don't just want Lilith somehow coming back AGAIN.
on your way back from killing mouthpiece theres a side mission that does exactly what tannis is talking about and even creates a duality of a memory versionn in the real body and the original personality in a jar i think it was. also there is a room in psychoscape with a rainbow on the floor and writing all over it talking about being trapped in a pschos mind and how to quantum teleport out. the rainbow seems out of place and it all seems childish in a way. im gonna look and see if i cant find any references to mayas handwriting or if she ever drew anything we can see buuut the rainbow seems to reflect the sirens so i believe this is maya finding a way out.....also where is this actually taking place we travel there by space so its not in tannis lab and the planet view kinda looks like a planet that exploded from something similar to erridum. im wondering if this isnt some weird warped reality of kriegs mind actually manifesting in the primary universe. maybe from the "creator" then with the mayhem mode tannis is unsure about the reality of these versions of the game add on top all the time manipulation with the seer and watcher the eridians having come from another dimension the hplovecraft inspiration is becoming overwhelming. and theres also the line about the twins which is delivered in a way that seems like there is supposed to be a set of twin sirens. also the merging of the 2 kriegs seems like a siren or erridum thing take in case how the big angry version of him you fight changes with a completely different style. all in all im positive more then one maya is gonna come back maybe even three but doubt it original maya brought back through some siren thing but without powers or as a new 7th, and one from kriegs mind but probably in a chip. kreig is definatly on a planet somewhere most likely unconsius whether what we see visually of the planet is real or not from space idk. and each siren will have an ability associated with the colors of the rainbow
I see this DLC as a knee jerk reaction to the actual Cluster Fluck that was Maya's death and the rise of Ava. I dont think this was planned, hence the retcon of yea Sirens can store a part of themselves if the emotion is strong enough.
Late to the party, but I feel it would be a moral choice at the end of the day. Maya already promised him “she would see him in the stars”. So bringing her back because from the memory she left in the log alongside the manifestation of her in kriegs memory would seem wrong. Also a downside is she might have her powers. Unless Ava gives the clone her power and somehow that power has Ava’s soul. 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️ I feel like I would rather have the real thing than a copy.
It won't happen for a long time. The game did well. Pitchford is willing to die on this hill for some pants on head stupid reason. His wallet will have to take a beating hard enough to bruise his ego before he will alter course. I might be wrong, but I don't think I am. We only got this much because they knew slapping Maya in a DLC would ensure that they sold at least the last of this game's content to us before ship jumpers start stealing lifeboats. We brought back Vaughn’s sun smasher lieutenant with a new body back near the beginning of the game. Ended up with her original head in a jar still and having a conversation with her clone. So I’d say yes, if Maya’s mind is still floating around then they can digistruct her a new body. Would be within in-game reason.

Because she's a horrible, poorly written trash character and Maya's death is 100% her fault. Also I don't think the team knows how to make child bodies, so she has a small body but a gigantic head.
She was written poorly and came off as annoying. Her backstory justifies why she can come off as a bit abrasive, but her moments in the game itself are written like she’s completely blameless and always right. Even that would have been excusable if it wasn’t for the fact that everyone else also acts like she’s blameless and always right too! Ava could have been great, but in the end the story surrounding on her made no sense and came across like she got rewarded for causing problems and learning nothing.
What she meant was there's a loaded Torgue brand firearm somewhere with exactly one round in it. She was saving it for a day Ava really pissed her off.
I agree that Ava's stupidity killing Maya was horrible plot, but that could be the catalyst that turns her into a badass world-saving heroine. If she spends her life trying to make up for her mistake. It's an origin story, even if it's one none of us want, it's still an origin story.
Wait... Tannis is a siren able to phaseshift electronics... And she has a collection of backup memory chips of ppl around her that she describes as "valuable" or "useful". That explains why after the fall of Hyperion and death of Angel those new-u devices still resurrect us.
Legacy characters in general always suck ass. Getting rid of a beloved character and replacing it with a new character that fails to live up to expectations happens all the time in western comics and only serves to piss off long term fans
I would play 3 with my father and while he's buying ammunition upgrades and doing side quests I'm dumping more bullets into Ava then I did on any of the bosses

The antagonists are cringey streamers who have a bare bones understanding of their leeching ability through just sacrificing others so that one can empower the other (since males can not actually receive Siren powers), so one is naturally just a weak leech. Said weak leech manages to kill a Siren who's had time to figure out her powers. And so we lose a good character because a shit character decided to throw weight they don't have around the ring. And lets not forget that Ava never learns anything from any of this. She goes from "I'm gonna kick your asses!" to "My mentor is dead and it's all your fault, Fire Hawk!", to "haha, fire lady go brrrr!". And despite learning nothing and making no progression as a character, she gets entrusted with the lives of the Crimson Raiders. A teenager, who is immature, lacks the ability to take accountability, who would rather throw a tantrum and throw blame at everyone else; has just been given control of the denizens of Pandora. A legacy she was not ready to inherit.
I think what everyone needs to remember is that the whole Borderlands 3 story is being retold by Marcus. GB could/should retcon all the aspects that made Borderlands 3 story so disliked. It all could be a case of a unreliable narrator.
And Marcus has proven that he is an unreliable narrator in the past. Some details in the Zombie Island DLC are questionable considering that Dr. Ned is just Zed with a false mustache on his mask. Which I take that as that Dr. Zed was the one that caused the zombie outbreak but Marcus changed the details of it, likely at Dr. Zed's request (with money, of course) should he ever tell the story. Then there's the Robolution DLC where he lies about his own death at the hands of Interplanetary Assassin Claptrap. Don't recall if he had any cases of being an unreliable narrator in Borderlands 2 or 3.

I'm still wondering if people remember the BL3 side mission "Head Case" where Vaughn literally tasks you to bring back one of his clan named Vic. In that mission Vic is just a severed head in a jar, in which case you go into her mind and bring her back out where as she has a new body and everything. She even talks with her own severed head. All I'm trying to say is that if that was possible for Vic than its possible for Maya. 6:25 and yes i do think it's part of the lore.

Why does everyone hate her so much? She's less annoying than Claptrap was in the first game, and he's been a fan favourite since. Plus, they wouldn't need to kill her. But, if they did, it would probably be to drive the story of 4. I agree with Michael a little bit, in that it would happen at the start of 4, but that it would be a story-based decision instead of a fan service. Also, just for the record, they won't kill a kid. Even Gearbox has limits.

Can I point out that this isn’t the only one you enter the mind of, a side quest from the base game on Pandora in the holy broadcast center allows you to enter and extract stuff from this random characters mind. Before this dlc was a thing you could already prove that in the world of borderlands you can take memories and make them real
I mean, with digistructing having been a thing since the literal beginning of the very first game(Catch-A-Rides), it stands to reason that machinery of ANY sort could be created out of someone's memories, so long as a clear "blueprint" is in place, which you either have via the gun working on Ork magic(It just works in the person's head, so it works in real life), or the digistructing medium does the heavy lifting to make it work.
I think personally by following the rules of the sirens, she would return without her powers, If she got a metal arm that would be badass bit she'd then be able to teach Ava how to control her powers also then krieg would be happy and Maya would be Tina's new secret step mum, I think my theory would work and would be pretty good
If they followed the rules of the sirens in the first place, passing on powers wouldve never been a thing and being BORN with them would still be the way they get transferred.

Lilith is the "Pheonix" though and a Pheonix never truly dies they always end up rising up from the ashes. Lilith herself is an implication to the fact that she is not truly dead.
Tannis said later in the DLC that she can bring back Sane Krieg, but also says that all his memories would stay in the insane body and floated the question, who we are if we hadn't our memories? That's why I think Tannis wouldn't bring back Maya from Krieg's Mind as Maya would lose all her memories, maybe even destroy her, as she is only a memory/spirit-thingy of her.
I think it's the other way around. By removing Maya from Krieg's mind, you'd be effectively erasing Maya from his memory, which would be _really horrible._
You missed a point chief. Sane krieg would lose his memories since his memories were so fractured and fucked up. With anyone else, they would still have their memories.
Even if we lose our memories, our personality remains similar. And memory can sometimes be regained by revisiting places that people with been to before. So imo not a bad deal

@@damrullah I actually hope that it would be for like borderlands 4 rather than just another DLC because of how short those are compared to a main game. It would be nice staying one just one planet while trying to stop a mad psychopath from opening a vault that contains an entity that can control time. Though that would make for an interesting boss fight if we are to fight it. It slowing down or reversing time to try to beat us.

Maya's death hit me so hard. Roland and Bloodwing were nothing compared to it. She was my favourite ever since she was introduced. And then she just died. And so soon, too...
The mission Head Case you can get after beat Mouthpiece in the story literally answers this. In that quest you enter a virtual world to rescue Vaughn's second-in-command from torture. At the end of it you have her head in a jar and a digi-structed clone of her existing at the same time. They share memories but are now two different people. I actually really liked Maya and hope they can bring her back but not as a Siren.
More like the Borderlands fanbase hated Ava so much that the creators had to retcon a way for Maya to come back in future games like Tanis builds a robot body and uses the part of her that might be alive in Krieg to bring her back.
The only reason I can see if they do decide to bring Maya back via extraction would be to have her help out finding what happened to Lillith when she phased locked the moon.
The problem with the Extraction is that this Maya has the memories of Krieg of her, so if they do extract her from his mind, he will forget about her, which is a miserable deal for Krieg, in my opinion.
Don't think that's possible. It would have to be an actual living consciousness. Maya is currently on a plane of existence that's outside the realm of what science can do.
As I recall, the BL crew has access to a mad scientist(Tannis if I remember correctly.) She got Sane Krieg back AND unraveled the secret of why psychos go crazy, so if there is anyone who could find a way to resurrect Maya, it would be her.
Personally, I think that because of the bond Maya and Krieg has/had, it serves as a bridge for her to walk upon, letting her live on in his head. Kinda like a roommate, and if this is true, Tannis can extract Maya from Krieg's head and implanting it in a new body. Yeah she's no longer a Siren because Ava now has the Phase-Lock powers. But is still Maya.
That makes a lot of sense. I was wondering why Maya knew us, the Vault Hunter, when Krieg never was there when we were with her on Athenas. Plus, she did feel more "real" than the other characters like Brick, Mordecai, and Lilith.
So because of the message that she sent to Krieg before the Vault, Maya, via her Siren abilities in the Echo device, is able to come back inside Krieg's mind
Its like she foresaw her fate, instinctively knew what the result was going to be. Everyone's so busy hating a teenager when it was all Maya all along.

Psycho Krieg can't even form sentences and Maya had no idea of sane Krieg... as such, she simply cared for him as a friend and saw that he was more than just psycho, but das it. She had no feelings even in the same neighborhood as love... jfc shippers -_- and even from krieg's side, it was a completely one-sided and extremely superficial form of love. The reason for that: krieg knew nothing about her, could never even talk to her. Sane krieg barely saw more than psycho k, it was just "pretty blue lady who helps me" with barely anything else. How is that even love? or a relationship?
I don't care how they do it, but they need to make it so a lot of the shit they ruined with BL3 never happened. Lilith sacrificing herself is fine, but Maya should 100% have been the next leader. And It would have been so much better if Ava died in Maya's place and her dead would help Maya grow and have her own character ark which ends with her becoming leader. But to be honest, with how the BL3 story is and how the New tales went, I don't think the writers at Gearbox are capable of it.
It's good to know that there is one character who was deeply affected by Maya's death (or in this case by Maya in general). This dlc, while it lacks side quests and the third major boss feels absent for most of the act, it's pretty good storywise. Ending was very bitter-sweet. Am I the only one who's a bit dissapointed that they got rid of Krieg's memories of his "pre-insanity" past? That nursery rhyme gave us no explenation... + there was very little meat bicycles

there's literally precedence for siren powers to be shared between two distinct people, a new digistructed Maya can just share her power with Ava, and serve more as a mentor that way that just giving Ava instant, total control over her own powers.
Well it would mean that Ava has one more thing of Maya's: First her siren powers and then Maya's conscience. That's just punishing Maya for no good reason. No, better to kill off Ava totally and never hear of her again.
Now if it completely erased Ava's consciousness so that Maya could take over (and maybe get Zed to do some weird bio science to turn Ava's body into Maya's afterwards) then I'm fine with this option. Ava's gone, Maya's back, it's a win-win!

We brought back Vaughn’s sun smasher lieutenant with a new body back near the beginning of the game. Ended up with her original head in a jar still and having a conversation with her clone. So I’d say yes, if Maya’s mind is still floating around then they can digistruct her a new body. Would be within in-game reason.

She was written poorly and came off as annoying. Her backstory justifies why she can come off as a bit abrasive, but her moments in the game itself are written like she’s completely blameless and always right. Even that would have been excusable if it wasn’t for the fact that everyone else also acts like she’s blameless and always right too!
Ava could have been great, but in the end the story surrounding on her made no sense and came across like she got rewarded for causing problems and learning nothing.
I'd like to see Maya return. Her and Krieg being together on Pandora or another world could make for some interesting possibilities for Borderlands 4

The antagonists are cringey streamers who have a bare bones understanding of their leeching ability through just sacrificing others so that one can empower the other (since males can not actually receive Siren powers), so one is naturally just a weak leech. Said weak leech manages to kill a Siren who's had time to figure out her powers. And so we lose a good character because a shit character decided to throw weight they don't have around the ring.
And lets not forget that Ava never learns anything from any of this. She goes from "I'm gonna kick your asses!" to "My mentor is dead and it's all your fault, Fire Hawk!", to "haha, fire lady go brrrr!". And despite learning nothing and making no progression as a character, she gets entrusted with the lives of the Crimson Raiders. A teenager, who is immature, lacks the ability to take accountability, who would rather throw a tantrum and throw blame at everyone else; has just been given control of the denizens of Pandora. A legacy she was not ready to inherit.

I think what everyone needs to remember is that the whole Borderlands 3 story is being retold by Marcus. GB could/should retcon all the aspects that made Borderlands 3 story so disliked. It all could be a case of a unreliable narrator.
And Marcus has proven that he is an unreliable narrator in the past. Some details in the Zombie Island DLC are questionable considering that Dr. Ned is just Zed with a false mustache on his mask. Which I take that as that Dr. Zed was the one that caused the zombie outbreak but Marcus changed the details of it, likely at Dr. Zed's request (with money, of course) should he ever tell the story. Then there's the Robolution DLC where he lies about his own death at the hands of Interplanetary Assassin Claptrap.
Don't recall if he had any cases of being an unreliable narrator in Borderlands 2 or 3.

I'm still wondering if people remember the BL3 side mission "Head Case" where Vaughn literally tasks you to bring back one of his clan named Vic. In that mission Vic is just a severed head in a jar, in which case you go into her mind and bring her back out where as she has a new body and everything. She even talks with her own severed head.
All I'm trying to say is that if that was possible for Vic than its possible for Maya.

Why does everyone hate her so much? She's less annoying than Claptrap was in the first game, and he's been a fan favourite since. Plus, they wouldn't need to kill her. But, if they did, it would probably be to drive the story of 4. I agree with Michael a little bit, in that it would happen at the start of 4, but that it would be a story-based decision instead of a fan service. Also, just for the record, they won't kill a kid. Even Gearbox has limits.

Even in the DLC Krieg doesn't even know that Maya died, and it wrenched my heart and nastily cut it how in the end, Krieg was able to come to an agreement with his psycho self that they will unite as one and keep fighting for their dream of marrying Maya. They would be driven to despair if they learn about it, both sane and psycho will break and lose all hope they ever had from Maya.

Can I point out that this isn’t the only one you enter the mind of, a side quest from the base game on Pandora in the holy broadcast center allows you to enter and extract stuff from this random characters mind. Before this dlc was a thing you could already prove that in the world of borderlands you can take memories and make them real
I mean, with digistructing having been a thing since the literal beginning of the very first game(Catch-A-Rides), it stands to reason that machinery of ANY sort could be created out of someone's memories, so long as a clear "blueprint" is in place, which you either have via the gun working on Ork magic(It just works in the person's head, so it works in real life), or the digistructing medium does the heavy lifting to make it work.
I think personally by following the rules of the sirens, she would return without her powers, If she got a metal arm that would be badass bit she'd then be able to teach Ava how to control her powers also then krieg would be happy and Maya would be Tina's new secret step mum, I think my theory would work and would be pretty good
If they followed the rules of the sirens in the first place, passing on powers wouldve never been a thing and being BORN with them would still be the way they get transferred.

Tannis said later in the DLC that she can bring back Sane Krieg, but also says that all his memories would stay in the insane body and floated the question, who we are if we hadn't our memories? That's why I think Tannis wouldn't bring back Maya from Krieg's Mind as Maya would lose all her memories, maybe even destroy her, as she is only a memory/spirit-thingy of her.
I think it's the other way around. By removing Maya from Krieg's mind, you'd be effectively erasing Maya from his memory, which would be _really horrible._

You missed a point chief. Sane krieg would lose his memories since his memories were so fractured and fucked up. With anyone else, they would still have their memories.
Even if we lose our memories, our personality remains similar. And memory can sometimes be regained by revisiting places that people with been to before. So imo not a bad deal

@@damrullah I actually hope that it would be for like borderlands 4 rather than just another DLC because of how short those are compared to a main game. It would be nice staying one just one planet while trying to stop a mad psychopath from opening a vault that contains an entity that can control time. Though that would make for an interesting boss fight if we are to fight it. It slowing down or reversing time to try to beat us.

Maya's death hit me so hard. Roland and Bloodwing were nothing compared to it. She was my favourite ever since she was introduced. And then she just died. And so soon, too...
The mission Head Case you can get after beat Mouthpiece in the story literally answers this. In that quest you enter a virtual world to rescue Vaughn's second-in-command from torture. At the end of it you have her head in a jar and a digi-structed clone of her existing at the same time. They share memories but are now two different people. I actually really liked Maya and hope they can bring her back but not as a Siren.
More like the Borderlands fanbase hated Ava so much that the creators had to retcon a way for Maya to come back in future games like Tanis builds a robot body and uses the part of her that might be alive in Krieg to bring her back.
The only reason I can see if they do decide to bring Maya back via extraction would be to have her help out finding what happened to Lillith when she phased locked the moon.
The problem with the Extraction is that this Maya has the memories of Krieg of her, so if they do extract her from his mind, he will forget about her, which is a miserable deal for Krieg, in my opinion.
Don't think that's possible. It would have to be an actual living consciousness.
Maya is currently on a plane of existence that's outside the realm of what science can do.
As I recall, the BL crew has access to a mad scientist(Tannis if I remember correctly.) She got Sane Krieg back AND unraveled the secret of why psychos go crazy, so if there is anyone who could find a way to resurrect Maya, it would be her.
Honestly, I would love it if her memory stayed inside Kreig but manifests powers. So Kreig could become a psycho pseudo-siren.

Personally, I think that because of the bond Maya and Krieg has/had, it serves as a bridge for her to walk upon, letting her live on in his head. Kinda like a roommate, and if this is true, Tannis can extract Maya from Krieg's head and implanting it in a new body. Yeah she's no longer a Siren because Ava now has the Phase-Lock powers. But is still Maya.

That makes a lot of sense. I was wondering why Maya knew us, the Vault Hunter, when Krieg never was there when we were with her on Athenas. Plus, she did feel more "real" than the other characters like Brick, Mordecai, and Lilith.
So because of the message that she sent to Krieg before the Vault, Maya, via her Siren abilities in the Echo device, is able to come back inside Krieg's mind
Its like she foresaw her fate, instinctively knew what the result was going to be.

and even from krieg's side, it was a completely one-sided and extremely superficial form of love. The reason for that: krieg knew nothing about her, could never even talk to her. Sane krieg barely saw more than psycho k, it was just "pretty blue lady who helps me" with barely anything else. How is that even love? or a relationship?
I don't care how they do it, but they need to make it so a lot of the shit they ruined with BL3 never happened. Lilith sacrificing herself is fine, but Maya should 100% have been the next leader. And It would have been so much better if Ava died in Maya's place and her dead would help Maya grow and have her own character ark which ends with her becoming leader. But to be honest, with how the BL3 story is and how the New tales went, I don't think the writers at Gearbox are capable of it.
It's good to know that there is one character who was deeply affected by Maya's death (or in this case by Maya in general). This dlc, while it lacks side quests and the third major boss feels absent for most of the act, it's pretty good storywise. Ending was very bitter-sweet.

there's literally precedence for siren powers to be shared between two distinct people, a new digistructed Maya can just share her power with Ava, and serve more as a mentor that way that just giving Ava instant, total control over her own powers.

Well it would mean that Ava has one more thing of Maya's: First her siren powers and then Maya's conscience. That's just punishing Maya for no good reason. No, better to kill off Ava totally and never hear of her again.
Now if it completely erased Ava's consciousness so that Maya could take over (and maybe get Zed to do some weird bio science to turn Ava's body into Maya's afterwards) then I'm fine with this option.
