This week on Basics, I'm going to show you how to make some of my favorite drinks for the holiday season, like hot buttered rum and eggnog.

Recipes:
+ Eggnog
8 eggs (yolks and whites separated)
1/2 cup sugar, plus 2 Tbsp (divided)
2 cups steamed milk
Whole cloves (2)
2 cups heavy cream
Bourbon and white rum, to taste
+ Gin Punch
1 orange, peeled
1 lemon, peeled
1/3 cup sugar
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
1 bunch fresh sage (torched)
2 cups Lapsang tea
3 cups gin
1/2 cup Triple Sec
4-6 lemons, juiced
Lemons, oranges, and blood oranges for garnish
Hot Buttered Rum
1 cup brown sugar
1 Tbsp cinnamon
2-3 tsp freshly grated nutmeg
1 stick melted butter
Dark rum
Boiling water

Knowing how to drink, you did it right if the drink is mostly in the glass
And some on the counter
If the drink you want is spilled all over your bar, you did it right
if an atom of every part of the drink is dispersed among the rooms air, you're doing it right
I've never worked in a bar, I've been a bar back, I've held a position as a bar apprentice, I've, I've been in bars... i don't care too much about precision and technique, cause at the end of the day, if the drink you like is in the glass, you did it right!

I was only recently introduced to How To Drink and I really like it. Cool to see you two together, but it leads me deeper into the conclusion that every RUclipsr knows every other RUclipsr.

I've been watching him for about a year now, he seems to be the only non-pretentious cocktail channel.
In place of water in all these recipes you can just add double the liquor!!! And instead of all the spices three more parts of liquor!!! I recommend this if your family is like mine!!!

I'm not sure why, but this video has become a sort of holiday tradition for me. I always find myself coming back to it. I'm not even old enough to drink, but something about the mix of the music and the festive theme always puts me at ease and into the Christmas spirit.

I found Greg's channel a good while after finding Babish, and when describing How To Drink to friends, I often tell them he's like Babish, but with booze

@this is so sad can we hit 12 subs This is not true on any level. Eggnog does contain egg yolk, I mean they make it three different ways in the video each using the whole egg. Second, raw egg whites aren't any safer to eat that raw yolks.
Its perfectly fine, the alcohol burns off the salmonella, atleast I think it does
@@hyperbolic3259 the risk to get salmonella from raw eggs isnt that big. normally the salmonella sits on the outside of the egg, not inside. just make sure the eggs are kinda fresh and wash your hands afterwards.

Hey Babish, I don't make anything you make videos about but I love watching because its like watching a fun teacher teach a class and some of the things you say stick and have helped me in making certain foods in my kitchen, your music is also relaxing and so is your voice. I always tell people about your channel and we watch Frasier every single day at my work at lunch break and I like that you mention Fraiser alot on your channel.

Yay!! I've just been thinking back to when I was growing up and my mom showed me how to make eggnog with an egg beater in a big mixing bowl (if she ever spiked it, it was after we'd already mixed it up and the kids had had their share). It's always my favorite drink this time of year, and even though I stopped drinking a few years ago, I was looking forward to maybe making a batch this christmas. These two kinds of recipes give me a great base to work from for making either a good fresh or a good stovetop custard nog, and I thank you both very much. Happy New Year, BwB and How to Drink!
