Recently got this diagnosis. I've suffered with depression since 12, (I'm now 19), been on 6-7 different medications, always stopped working after a while. After being on my ADHD meds, my whole life has changed. I feel I'm a person, not just a husk.
Everyone told me there's no use for a diagnosis, but this diagnosis gave me my life back.
ADHD makes me, me. I don't resent it. I'm quirky, funny, creative and smart, and now with the medication I can fully harness those traits within myself.

I have ADHD on both hyperactivity and concentration problems. My parents don't want me to tell the teachers I have it because they don't want me to be put in special ed, because they put kids with ADHD, Autism, OCD, PTSD in special ed. But schools don't realize that ADHD doesn't change your intelligence, creativity or your personality, they just want you to focus even though it's difficult, they want you to stay seated from 8:00 to 12:30...the most difficult thing is that they don't know I have it and they tell me to focus or else I'm getting an Email home. School system is really weird.

I know exactly how you feel about getting a diagnosis. I have ADD, mild Tourette's Syndrome, Anxiety, OCD, and several others, but every time I went to a doctor or a phycologist they would deny what I was feeling because it wasn't an exact description of what they had on their clipboard. Mental and physical disorders and illnesses can be very spread out and I wish that some doctors would pay more attention to what their patients are describing.

I have ADD, and I have to take pills because of it, cause I have the difficulty of learning/focusing. *Attention deficit disorder* (ADD) is a neurological disorder that causes a range of behavior problems such as difficulty attending to instruction, focusing on schoolwork, keeping up with assignments, following instructions, completing tasks and social interaction. And I hate it, because every time I take the pill, I feel like I’m taking this because I’m dumb. And I hate, HATE it...the feeling of being not smart, useless, won’t be able to get into college and stuff, it’s just the guilt and overwhelming, and as well the overthinking going on, of what will happen to me.

  • @rare8643

So for the last two years, I came with the insight that I might have ADHD-PI. I couldn't focus no matter what at school, everything about school just bore me besides the people of it. I tried pushing myself to concentrate but my mind just never listened. Because of my poor concentration it also mean't I had a very bad working memory, which made learning concepts much more difficult for me. It also never helped that I was so engrossed on my phone and laptop which was 10000000000 times more immersive than just looking at a piece of paper/book and trying to absorb the information in my head. I also procrastinated a lot. Im also a pretty quiet kid, which could of confused others that I was just spacy. Last year, I got diagnosed by a psychiatrist who thought I didn't have ADHD, like I said before because I was such a quiet kid I had trouble communicating and my mind was extremely cluttered, I thought my speech was disorganized most likely because of ADHD. When I got results back, I felt terrible, I knew there was something wrong with me, I felt like a failure like always, I just wanted to have a normal life. But it just so happened I was born like this. I'm typing this down the day before I come back to school. I just feel anxious & hopeless like always, I hate the idea of going to school, the fact that my value was determined because of a piece of paper. Anyways if you took time to read this, Thank you. I'm trying to get diagnosed this year and I don't feel like hiding anything.

As I’m a secondary school student with ADHD I have had the same feelings. Feelings of trying to fit in to be liked. But it sort of worked. I have started to begin to not like myself and making myself someone I’m not. It just isn’t good. This has also led to me having self harmed myself at the start of year 10 and I’ve never felt right since. I’ve felt like doing nothing. Not even leaving my bed room. Trying to act normal at school around my friends but I get home and just lie there, in bed with to many bad thoughts. Just flying around my head. Feeling paranoid and feeling like nobody even likes me. Like all my friends fake being my friends. I don’t even really talk to people in the house. All I do is go out my room for food or the toilet, the rest of the time in my room. I try to take my mind of it by listening to or making music but it just doesn’t help drown out the bad voices in my head. Even my dad has said to me over the past couple years he thinks I’ve not been right or feeling down. The smiles I do are fake to make other people happy. Like a mask hiding all my feelings underneath. I feel worthless. I feel like I’m nothing. There is no point to life.

I relate so much to this video and the story within it. I too struggled with etiquette at school. I also lived of fear in embarrassing myself, and it made me withdrawn and selectively mute. I was not diagnosed with ADHD until five years ago when I was 33.
I also have had to fight to get diagnosed and recognised. My Borderline Personality Disorder traits and Cyclothymic Disorder (mini Bipolar) symptoms were dismissed by the psychiatrist. I am struggling to get diagnosed with Avoidant Personality Disorder aka Anxious Personality Disorder.
I believe my GAD (Generalised Anxiety Disorder) diagnosis was an under-diagnosis. I still suffer anxiety attacks despite having taken medication for anxiety and had talking therapy six times. I need intensive therapy for the anxiety which is ingrained within my personality.
I love that she ends the video on the positive. Those of us with ADHD have a lot to give this world. I'm proud to be a part of this tribe.

ADHD teneeager from Spain here. You wont believe it me but i speak English automaticly thanks to this. We do and succesed in whatever we want but we need more time than the others, but the help it isnt bad, worst of all is that they dont know what we have so they put togheter two things :
    1. That we cant concetrate without medicine and that is not true, i have a friend who learn to concentrate alone without medicines and that is something that makes believe that our system of education is horrible, but learn that this is an research imcomplete for the profesionals, so imagine.
    2. what happen to her almost could happen to me, but was worst, thanks to medication experimental that they gave me i suffer depression, it is over, but it was horrible, but i learn that can happen two things: Or you stay with the medicine all your life or you learn to life and concentrate yourself.
Thank you for your attention and sorry if i couldnt express myself.

Unfortunately in the USA, Kaiser won't do ADHD evaluations for adults who smoke weed. I've had hyperactive type my entire life. It's so bad now my knees are going out because of dancing and... I just never stop... if I'm not walking to the store, I'm at the beach or cleaning my house non-stop. I've never gained weight. Couldn't learn math as a kid; I was always bad; and impulsive. I've drank and smoked weed since age 15 for my hyperactivity/lack of understanding in class/faking it/ and not having real friends because I was annoying. I ran away with friends, stole at age 7 candy from stores, and was the "bad kid." Never had any other symptoms like depression or anything but anxiety over my failure to be 'normal."
I tried a Vavaince once and thought I'd drank 40 cups of coffee + a heart attack, but half an Adderall completely cured my symptoms and made me sit and actually think as well as planning ahead when doing a task. I'd do anything to go back in time and get the treatment I NEEDED in class when I couldn't add up the little bears at age 6. I could have been a scientist. But I'm pretty much screwed. Like many many women who were not treated. It's like its a conspiracy to make sure the boys with a lot of energy can focus and get a great career but the girls can go untreated and just have a ton of kids; with that type of energy.

I have ADHD, unfortunately i grew up in the system, and if you don't know what that is, its basically this program(don't remember the name) where they adjusts things for you to make it easier. Basically, social skills every morning, temper development, speech development. I was pulled from my classes every morning as a kid, and i was even bullied for being too energetic, too talkative, too "crazy". I watched other students that were like me in a way scream and cry and be put into a room with padding on the walls and floor. Might be a little screwed up, but it had a purpose being so they don't run out in the middle of the school and start hurting others and themselves. I grew up from that just knowing i was "different", i was treated like a freak because i didn't understand the concept of a conversation. No i don't want pity. No im not looking for attention. I've just finally found a place where i can share my story like so many others. ADHD is something that is either easy or hard to deal with. What makes it worse is how others treat you because you're "different". However it taught me to never be like those kids, to treat others with kindness, and to stop being a dick. So many go through so much, and we don't even know, you might go boo hoo another sob story, but in the end we've all had something horrible or awful done to us. We can either grow from it or we can let it destroy us. Different meds for ADHD have so many different effects, like how i can't even have a simple kickstart otherwise i literally shake and sometimes lay on the floor waiting for it to stop(i have only had a kickstart twice, first time to try, second to test if things would be different). So lets just be kind to eachother and supportive, because im here for you whoever is reading this.

How do yo get an appointment with a psychiatrist?

    • @2FAST4U5ever
      @2FAST4U5ever 5 лет назад +2

In canada, you meet with a psychologist (either a private one or one from your school or university) then if they suspect you have something they'll recommend you to a psychiatrist.
      Good luck

Lucy Whitehead in the UK, you go to see a GP but the waiting time is over a year, if ur in school and ur symptoms are pretty bad they will usually send you to the school psychologist (that’s how I got diagnosed) The system is awful, try and go privately if you have the money x

Through your GP in the UK. Unfortunately ADHD services are few and far between with reeeeally long waiting lists.

Adhd sucks, i Dont know what i have, like aside from adhd, i can't describe my feelings and thought, let alone anything at all, i can't speak properly, i feel like i have a weird perspective of life and everything im doing. I dont know how to explain myself to a doctor and i just can't handle it, i feel like i want to die but at the same time i dont care to actually do it. I dont know if the only thing stopping me from killing myself is my past with anxiety, where i had this fucked way of thinking that everyone and everything wasn't permanent and we whould all be gone soon, and that this life is all i had and thats it. Yknow i remember sitting in my bed when i was young, shaking, scared of death and what was to come, and wanted to try to pray to god or something, yeah didn't work. Well after a while the doctor had gotten rid of my anxiety, a long with all emotions accept anger. That might also be one of the reasons why i cant end me, i dont feel that much, i think again not really sure how i feel, but i can't recognize or feel so much emotion, if that makes sense, i dont know. And i just realise that i've just spat out a bunch of bullshit out here so whatever

Well, sir, I, as an aspiring psychiatrist, am thrilled to follow in your footsteps of four years of majoring in pre-med in college, four years of medical school, and an additional three years of psychiatric residency. You are such a diagnostic inspiration.
