Nice quality video. I didn't need the information. I stayed because it was visually interesting. Colors, lighting. Well done. (Also funny, Squarespace haha)
After scouring the internet for reviews and beginner flash photography information, this video was easy to follow and understand. I feel so relieved and less anxious about shooting this weekend with this extra bit of knowledge to enhance my photos. Thank you Taylor 🙏 Much love from South Africa.
This is the exact same combo I recommend to people regularly. Kudos for not trying to upsell people on more than they need. I encourage the few extra bucks for the black cover like you gave a nod to, and an umbrella diffuser, because then you have shoot-through, shoot-in, and softbox in one affordable package.
@TaylorWillard thks, i love this simple explanation! can u also share a link to see what that suggested next step set up might look like pls (and how might it give an all-in-1 "softbox") Novice here.
What an awesome video! I can't believe someone as helpful and creative as you is only starting out. You're 100% gonna kill it on this platform, can't wait to learn more from you!
The most practical video that I have actually followed without getting lost. I recently bought a pair of the Godox TT600 and I shy to use them. After watching this, I am more than confident I'll take awesome pictures. Thank you. All the from South Africa
the quality of this video 👌🏼 the way you talk, the way it is edited, the way they recorded it is spectacular and it is a pleasure to watch! And very good information ✨: )
Expert class for the amateur photographer. Thanks for the equipment brand and cost. Can you produce more how to videos? I think you are a natural at this. 12:05
Thanks for the video! As a newbie trying to learn flash photography, just curious why you didn't put the umbrella on the right side, to fill in the light, since you had natural light coming in from the left? Is this not a good idea?
Hey great question! The flash I was using was overpowering the window light and I wanted to show what a one light set up could give you in any environment. If I had another light and wanted a less contrast look I could have added a light to both sides (or a bounce board) to fill in the shadows a bit. No a bad idea at all!
This is a great beginner intro video! I was surprised to see all the equipment you suggested was 3xactly what I had already put together from other sources. The Godox X2T and TT685II are pretty amazing from their price tbh, as a beginner I really can get a good jump with practicing from this setup. That mount was also recommended from another channel specifically because it holds the lightso7rc3 in the center of the umbrella instead of toward the top, and that model is actually highly recommended on Amazon too, for a steal of a price. Good work, this is the perfect video to share with budding photographers!
Great video - i love your style, I am recommending this video to anyone who wants to get started in flash photography. You break things down really well and you have a really positive way of doing it. The results are so great!
I love the ads disclamer! Its like a cofe in the middle of the morning. And this is truly a througuth on-the-topic video too. Thansk a bunch - helped a lot
Great video. Really appreciate you showing the kit and how you use it. Also, really appreciate how you demonstrate distance between background and its effects. Thank you
best video for flash photography beginners. I've watched tons, and this break down was perfect, the walk-through, test shoots, just everything was very informative to help guide newbies. I feel more optimistic to get started. Great teacher
Taylor, Impressive video that has no doubt helped many passionate photographers on a budget. Your work needs to be shown more! Can't believe the value and clear concise information
What a great informative video! I have been on the hunt of such a video through which I can inform myself right about everything you mentioned about ocf photography. A huge thanks and love :)
Wow, that was very helpful and easy to follow. I watch a TON of photography videos. You stand out by a long shot. You have a natural way of teaching and leading. I hope and would encourage you to make more videos. I'd love to see more videos around flash; if this is the budget set up, what does the upgrade look like, and the upgrade after that? How do you shoot different types of portraits (moody, cheerful, stoic, timeless, etc...). How do you get your clients to loosen up in front of your lens (posing, getting them to laugh, get them to feel natural, etc...). I'd love to hear how to shoot other studio work like products or food. I'd love to hear your workflow in editing your photos. I'd also love to hear about breaking into the photography industry; ideas on how to start, how to charge, and how to work your way up to bigger clients. Again, you have a real talent in explaining and walking the viewer through. I wish you the best and am subscribing to your channel.
This video was very helpful. I have been researching how to get started in photography for weeks and this is the best help i have found so far. Keep up the good work bro.
Thank you for this! This was extremely helpful!! I need a more in depth tutorial on best ways to use this, perhaps with a softbox, for food photography. Also, the bracket for Sony is now $25.
i found your unique story telling and detailed and friendly explanation rather stunning. i hope you're on the journey of finding the audience your video quality resembles! i'd love to learn more from your pov of how you developed a variety of skills as a photographer, meaning both practical, as strategic problem solving, e.g. how you would set a roadmap for what you/one want/s to offer in your/their first portfolio and how to reach social standings & clients in the developing phase of networking.
Fantastic video Taylor. I was really surprised by how much you covered in only 12 minutes. I was wondering if you have a video talking about the backdrop. Price how to set it up and where to get it. That will be interesting. Thank you and keep it up Taylor!
Thanks Harold, appreciate it! I don't have one yet but thanks for the suggestion! In the meantime here is a link to the backdrop I used if you're interested amzn.to/3OjE9BS
Oh yes sir! Looking forward to your upcoming videos! This got randomly washed in my feed, as i was looking for flash setups before. Must admit this was the best information paired with humor and enternaining film making. Keep it up Taylor! Fan from Germany

Thanks! Ya, umbrellas are a little less complicated, portable, and budget friendly when you're just getting started. Soft boxes are great tools too, but for ease of use and getting people's foot in the door with using flash, you can't beat the umbrella!
Just got the v860iii and x2t and found your video looking at budget modifiers and setups. I've been a hobbyist for maybe 10 years or so but flash has always intimidated me. Ive realized that flash is just such a game changer though and adds so much dimension and sharpness. A video I'd like to see would be on getting side gigs as a photographer. I have a full time job, and don't think I'd like being a full time photographer, but would love if i could get myself a few portraits here amd there to put money back into the hobby. Subbed and liked - thanks!
Awesome! Congrats on the purchase and diving into the world of flash. It can definitely be intimidating at first but glad you chose to try it out and are loving the results. Thanks for the comment and suggestion on future content!
Awesome, glad you're enjoying the videos! If you only want to buy one, I'd go with a softbox. It'll have a little more flexibility by being easier to control the light (especially light spill) and still give you great soft lighting. If you have the budget, get both. They are both great to have depending on the situation and look you're going for!
I’m curious if this flash is strong enough for the movement of toddlers or dogs for portrait photography, can you let me know. This is a great video and very helpful but I’m just unsure if I will need a strobe for the movement of little humans and pets!
Hey! I think it’d be plenty powerful in a studio environment. You may need to adjust the power (which would effect refresh time, or how fast the flash needs in between fires).
I bought two of products you recommended today at B&H. You should have more content being that the one was well done, informative, and you actually have a channel with a good amount of views.

You’re loosing light from your flash/umbrella setup because your umbrella is too fat out from your flash.
