    Thank you for your video! How many pictures can I take with one charge with a perhaps typical setting of 1/32 or 1/16? Which settings do you use on average? You talked about about three weddings, which last hours. Don’t I need an additional battery then?

      I use flash mostly at reception typically 4hrs, some for prep if needed and some fill if needed and for family as a fill/trigger for the ad200s usually. It sure the exact numbers but I’m happy for report I use them 2-3 weddings without recharge, but I usually play safe at 2 weddings without even thinking about them. No spares needed. It’s great. I love the V1S, I have three of them and have used them for a couple years now with great satisfaction.
    HOWEVER: Two have broken, one the flimsy hotshoe (easily replaceable, 4 screws and a $20 part).
    The other stopped firing entirely, suspected a faulty trigger coil. It is not a user replaceable part. Apparently MANY folks have suffered this issue.
    I tried replacing the flash tube just to be sure it wasn't that... no good.
    I'll still buy another one to replace it, but just be aware, these things do have some weaknesses.
    Probably good to buy a backup to have on hand in case one goes out on you during a shoot.

    • @RickyCheung
      @RickyCheung  Год назад +1

      For some reason the Sony ver. Is having issues with the hotshoe. I am a canon use e but yea unfortunately for Sony the digital shoe is an issue. There is a newer metal shoe but not sure if it fixed or is better. In my experiences the flash tube rarely goes even with heavy use unless abused 1/1 all the time. Best of luck, still considering the cost of replace vs factory repair has gotten me Godox route and I have done my fair share of repairs with Canons in the past.

They running with 1.2v what means there have 0.5v less than the godox accus or normal alkaline batteries at the beginning of there life. So there the powerex never pushes the limits what the flash or device would be capable of. I have three Godox AD300Pro and two Godox V1. Both models overheat pretty easy; they get very slow and have to "rest" a few minuters. Not a huge problem if you don´t shoot intensive, but I do that sometimes. The newer Godox V1Pro are presumably better in that area, but they need to work on the AD300 as well.
    Other than that happy with my Godox!

      4years going strong with the V1s OG and never overheating issues. Some comm. issues but I explain that in a video on how to fix that but what much power and how often are you popping? I’m usually 1/16-1/8 at most on events and I can fire off a lot with no cooling issues on AD200s. Maybe AD300 have different thermal issues. Even than my V1s still workhorse with no issues of overheating. Interesting.

      @@RickyCheung I use a ring flash adapter on the V1, which steals alot of light. So I usually have to shoot on 1/2 or full power. The V1Pro can do more before overheating. But it´s not a dealbreaker for me on the V1.
      The AD300Pro however; I mainly use them outdoors with HSS, that also creates heat. I often have to give them a minute or two to rest. But during that time I usually talk to the model, plan next shoot and so on.
      I really like the flashes, apart from this issue. If Godox updates the 300 I´m first in line. I also hope they update the interface, like on the AD600ProII.

    Since these are educational/informational videos, you might want to mention at the beginning that Flashpoint (that you portray) is the Adorama re-branded Godox (that you speak of). People that don't already know this might find your video confusing (along with repeatedly referring to it as the "Canon V1). Also, I would say that the main strength of Godox is not necessarily the innovation, but the innovation for the price. You can get plenty of round-head flash innovation from a brand like Profoto - at 4 times the cost.

      Cheap and inexpensive are two different descriptors. Canon flashes are for sure overpriced - and until companies like Godox bring to market the same level of quality at a fair price, they will continue. Years ago I saw that with contact lenses - hundreds, when the cost to bring them to market, was only a few dollars. Now with hearing aids, we see the same rip-offs. I needed VA to help as Kaisers' cheapest models were over $2000/ear. Suggest you continue to view videos as I am doing. Lush wrappings can be a real fooler. I'm moving from an 80D with a Canon 580EX to my new R5.

    • @Poopdeck1015
      @Poopdeck1015 2 года назад

      @@bobbuchanan6912 I think watching videos gets us to the wrong conclusions most of the time (and to the right ones on occasion) as with a lot of work online, content producers need to find new things to talk about to be ‘different’. There are lots of products out there with a propensity to oversell what they’re offering.
      The v1 wobbles on my camera. I’d rather not risk damaging my hot shoe and/or the flash. It may be a tool, but money shouldn’t be thrown around. All cameras do the same thing effectively, but some products are different. Like flash.
      I did try the Profoto a10, and that’s a good flash. The colour temp is good, it’s softer and less harsh and is robustly built.
      I’ve had so much gear over the years as a photojournalist and can now tell when I’m not comfortable sticking with something. That happened with the v1. I’ve bought cheap flashes before and it’s never worked out. Rick is right, it is a tool. But, do I want to be stuck in the middle of no where with a broken flash and terrible Godox service?
      Your Canon 580 may be over priced, but with that you’ll get service, a reconcilable warranty, easily replaceable parts, access to stellar professional CPS membership if you have 2 bodies or more and 3 Canon lenses.
      Godox, have a notoriously awful service.

    • @naushikaa01
      @naushikaa01 Год назад

      Sorry I failed to add, why not cheap continuous lighting with a slow shutter? Anyway, I'm not saying there's anything wrong with having a ton of flash power because why not, and it makes many different photographic situations possible. I was just a little baffled with the still studio shots as an example as to why you felt forced to upgrade because in my mind, I would just use continuous lighting with a long shutter if my flash power weren't enough in this kind of setup. But now that I think more about it, you can certainly achieve different results with flash vs continuous lighting depending on your light placement, getting different mixes of studio and ambient light. And certainly easier to control your less (or ambiently) lit areas when using flash.

For example, do you have to use a flash at night or can you just open the aperture/shutter speed to a lower number? Thank you Great video!

    • @_michaelglass
      @_michaelglass Год назад +6

      Not the Creator, but maybe I can help!
      You can and use flash in any of the situations you described. If you are shooting with an on camera flash, then you will probably have the best luck doing this indoors pointing at a ceiling or wall. If there is no wall or ceiling close by, then you can attach a velcro bounce modifier - there is a brand called Rogue that makes them, for example - so you are not shooting *directly* at the subject unless you want the hard light, Polaroid look (and probably some red eyes).
      In other situations, particularly at night or on cloudy days when you can't get the exposure you want, you can use flash off-camera to light your subjects nicely. This will require you to have some sort of trigger on your camera to communicate with the flash. For this particular flash, something like the Godox xPro series ought to work. You will also need a light stand and probably a soft box of some sort to diffuse the light so it's a nice softer light. It's a matter of personal taste, but I think most people would agree that having the light come from another angle than directly pointed at the subject from the camera is more pleasing. That is why we tend to bounce the flash off of ceilings and walls - it's not direct light, it's indirect and being scattered all over the ceiling and back down to the subject.
      If you are shooting landscapes or objects that are massive / far away and it's too dark to shoot handheld, then your best bet will be a tripod because these subjects will, in almost all instances, not benefit from using a flash. Put your camera on the tripod, find your exposure, set a timer for the shutter so you don't have camera shake at very long exposures, and then let your camera keep the shutter open as long as it needs.
      The tradeoff that you can make to be able to shoot handheld is by raising your ISO and lowering your f-number (Aperture) in order to keep a fast enough shutter speed. The biggest problem with this is that your image has a smaller depth of field by opening the Aperture (which is not always desirable), and raising your ISO starts to introduce more and more grain. Even on the nicest cameras, the grain starts to become noticeable after 3200-6400 ISO. On some cameras, especially DSLRs, the grain can start becoming noticeable at as little as 800 ISO. You may be able to adjust both in order to get the shot. 1/100 SS is a comfortable handheld shutter speed for me personally, so you could start there and then start opening Aperture and raising ISO incrementally until you get the shot you are looking for.
      The easiest way for a beginner to do this is to set your camera to Shutter Priority (S on most camera dials, Canon might be different, I don't use that brand), set your Shutter Speed to 1/100, and then set your ISO to Auto. In the settings on many cameras, you can change the range of your Auto ISO. It's hard to say what's best since I don't know your camera, but 2000 is probably safe for a passable photo. The camera will automatically adjust your Aperture and ISO settings so they will expose properly for the Shutter Speed you set.
      I know this was wordy, but hopefully it helps at least a little. Happy shooting!

I would like to start doing events, so my question is this: with the AD200 Pro, I also own the H200R Round Flash Head and the Godox EC200 Extension cable. Is that a good idea to take on events or is it a bit too wonky-lol? My reasoning is that by never having done events, I don't know how much power I would need in certain situations, like low light. Also, by having the extension cable it would lighten the load of carrying the camera and give me the flexibility of a flash head to bounce flash. Would you recommend a V1 over the AD200 kit? Yeah, personally I don't get the hype about the V1. It's main selling point is the round head and it's nice light fall off, but that only shows when you shoot someone against a wall. For which you use a bigger light with a modifier anyway... I'm not a fan of magnetic clip on modifiers. A speedlight is a small pinpoint light, there is little room to play with add ons. Also, I never shoot my flash straight out in front, when on my camera. I always bounce. Which doesn't require any "smooth light fall off", but does require a greater zoom range. Which the V860III offers.

      Are you using Sony? Because a lot of Sony users are reporting this but most if not all my fellow wedding photogs are Canon shooters.

    v1 is a great FLASH. but at least on sony, the hotshoe is the most fragile piece of shit ever. Knock a camera past a door, "CraCK" broken mount. Sit on a sofa and get up and flash rugs on handrest "CrACk" broken hotshoe mount. i broken 4 in 1 year, having had many other flashes before for 10 years and not having broken a single one before ( including other godox's )

    Best? Compared to? I get the clickbait titles but it’s false. Maybe the best budget flash would be a good title. For someone who shoots Sony (a1, a7rii, a7) for digital and Leica (for 35mm)and Rollieflex for medium format. I have purchased Godox and actually have the V1s as well as 3 other models. They’re nice inexpensive and fairly reliable lights. However, the Sony HVL F60RM2 is the best speedlight I’ve used. I like Profoto gear but even they can’t out perform Sony’s latest lights. When you add the fact that you can control everything about the light from your Camera’s menu is now a game changer. I get the price factor will drive some away but the performance is without a doubt the best I have ever used.

    This information is useful, but I spent so much time listening to you either ramble or fill the air with filler comments. I’m not saying this is insult you, I’m saying this in hopes that it will help. I think if you condense your videos into a more streamlined experience, people would be more likely to click - and stay for the video. Your lighting and audio look incredible, by the way.

      Man, at a time where most RUclipsrs take around 20 to 25 minutes to tell you something that would rarely need more than 5 minutes just to « please the algorithm », complaining about the duration of an 8 minutes video seems harsh… Maybe you copy and paste your comment under almost every video you watch! 😅
