I was finally able to try out my new workshop and I created this lovely lady!
I still need to figure out the best lighting and set up, but at least my spine is way happier, than before :)
I am pretty happy with how my Bee Fairy turned out, and I hope that you will like her too!
I also tried a slow shrinking method on the doll's head and my very first ever reroot. It wouldn't be so easy without a very helpful tutorial from Dirili Dolls:

The OMG body looks so good with a Monster High head. I never was a huge fan of OMG head sculpts and how thin Monster Highs are, but this combined the strengths of both doll lines.

So common to see characters that have unnatural skin colours portrayed with traditionally white features, so the natural hair on her is very appreciated

I'm pretty sure that poppen atelier changes face tone by using the opposite colour on the colour wheel to neutralise the original colour before using the tone you want, not tried it myself yet but sure I've seen her do it. Much love X

@@SilentSympathy Yeah, to help the pastels stick better.
Same as with makeup, using color theory to hide dark circles, redness from rosacea or acne, and in drag to hide facial hair. Just use the opposite color to hide the problem color to have an even base
the fact that the first reroot you did was on a smaller head, that had to have been hard with how tough the plastic gets when it shrinks! Thats some dedication.
What can I say? I am addicted to head shrinking XD
I was shocked when she said she was going to re-root the shrunken head, and that it was her first time trying it. All the other doll customizers will glue the hair on shrunken heads (even if they usually root the hair) because the hair plugs shrink, and the vinyl becomes much to hard.
Really have to admire the dedication to getting it done, and not giving up!
Loved this custom so much. Saw it on Pinterest and thought she was gorgeous, accidentally stumbled upon the video today and it made my night.

To answer your question, honestly I love when people explore different forms of beauty in a range of body types and atmospheres. I found a lot of inspiration watching fashion shows growing up that showed how different cuts of clothing interact with various body types, and then adding in things like "oh this seems very sleek and modern" versus "this is romantic and has Victorian elements" versus "these clothes take inspiration from traditional clothing from XYZ locations" or even "this is hardcore, cool in a punk-y kind of way" only builds upon that.
It was clear to me, at least, that you found sincere inspiration in this curvier body type and used it to help shape the tone and personality of your bee fairy. Being able to set multiple dolls beside one another and see different silhouettes through body types is also a really cool part of design imo, so I'd love to see you potentially contrast other body types/insect-type fairies against the bee if that inspires you in the future. Same with color palettes and all, I just think the contrasts in possibilities are really cool.
I must say… you do think exactly like me ;) and my next project will be a similar topic approached in a different way… I hope people will like that one too

Man, that hair!! I love it!! The whole doll is so CUTE and I heartily approve of the body type choice. It was interesting to see a customizer switch heads between doll types, as it’s something I had thought of doing but wasn’t sure if I could execute it. Fantastic job!!!

The stance you picked is BEYOND perfect. With her arms outstretched like a ballerina and then her other hand resting under her chin and with her stance being in a leaned back off kiltered pose, it's absolutely spot on. I truly enjoy when you create creatures equivalent to nature. Would you consider making a praying mantis inspired creature? Or possibly any other unique insects/animals? Like birds. Harpy eagles, Clydesdale horses, Cassowary, sea horse, strange newer discoveries in nature? Or possibly Greek, African, Mexican or other worldly mythological creatures. Would be FANTASTIC to see 💛🖤💛🖤

I love it!! This was a great color theory lesson, if the base is any other color than white and you want to put another color on top always remember that even though they aren’t technically “mixing” the background color will still come through (if the paint isn’t opaque enough) blue + yellow = green
Honey Swamp head is already green (minty green I would say) :P but yes. It is a strong color. Too strong to be covered without a base. BUT: I have already painted yellow the light green and dark brown heads and didn’t need a base for neither of this. The light green one I turned yellow with only soft pastels. So it is not the “different than white” problem, but this specific color was a problem :) now I now :) and, as you can see here - I also didn’t have any problems with covering the very, very green apoxie with the same yellow paint ;) without a white base ;)

You bee girl is an excellent character. You style and talent show in your work. I am an artist myself working in 3D art. But after watching you video I think I am going to try to make a figure character tr myself. I can only hope it comes out hafe as good as yours. Completely random but I’ve heard from other creators the shrinking the head and doing a reroot isn’t as easy as if it was normal squishy plastic. Just letting you know, since this is your first reroot.

Thank you for the tip. I will definitely try to cut it shorter next time :) I only broke 3 needles here, but I already made another (spoiler alert) and I broke like dozen XD

Love this doll, so beautiful! My advice for painting the face yellow, you have to do many watered down layers of acrylic paint, it takes time but the results are so worth it !!

Woah, I'd love to see the curvy body used in future. I might try a Persephone repaint using the same base - though I am a mere amateur (probably more traditional than Lore Olympus but LO Persephone does have this exact body shape and either the regular soft look or Dark Queen forms would be fun to make.)

I love this concept and the final doll is so cute!! I love that you used Honey Swamp, she's one of my favorite sculpts, but her color is a little hard to work with lol. In the future if you're changing the skin color of a doll so dramatically like this I think you should try neutralizing the original color by doing a base coat in its complement first (in this case since the doll was a blue-green that would be a reddish-orange), then go in with the yellow. I think it would hide the blueish undertones even more effectively than the white. (Or, you know, whatever colors you're working with next time.)

some of the best channels I've found are completely by accident. This is one of them :D I love how you show what faults and changes you made throughout. I find that really interesting as part of the process. Stunning piece! I'm so happy you went with the fuller body type. I know it can be really hard to step away from an idea once you've decided on it, so hearing you admit that your sister had the suggestion was really cool. I think it shows you genuinely care about the creative opinions of others 🥰
