The Hidden Influence of Money in Canadian Politics

  • In this video, I dive into the flaws of the Canadian political candidate selection process. The way it stands, the candidates who raise the most money and sell the most party memberships often get the nomination, regardless of their connection to the community or their potential as effective leaders. This system can sideline grassroots candidates who genuinely understand and care for their communities but lack financial backing.
I'll break down how this process works and explain why this focus on money and membership sales is detrimental to our democracy. My goal isn't to bash Canada or any particular political party-it's to highlight a significant issue that affects all parties. As I stated in my video, I'm a proud Canadian and there is nowhere else I'd rather live.
Join me as I simplify this complex topic and discuss why it's crucial for the integrity of our political system to prioritize the right qualities in our candidates over their fundraising abilities.

Thank you, Mr. Randy, for the engaging video and interesting topic.
Although I wish I could share my thoughts, I find politics and political parties difficult to understand.
Despite trying to learn, I struggle to grasp the complexities of political systems, including that of my own country.
Nonetheless, we truly appreciate and enjoy your videos. Keep up the great work!
    🙏🏼

Fully agree. My vote isn’t swayed by metrics like membership numbers. That just means that particular party has a bigger PR machine or name recognition amongst certain circles - but it doesn’t translate to good governance.

It is unfortunate that money does talk, but sad that money doesn’t listen. I do agree with you.

    💯 agree with you.
It's unfortunate that the best candidates don't get elected because of these circumstances. Expecially when they are usually the best ones for the job.

Thank you Officer Arsenault. My question is do you think there is a way to change this motion of elections? As being Canadian by birth, and living in the GTHA, I question how and when can the structure of our House of Commons changes?

I think only with enough pressure or people to get involved.

Interesting video Randy! I agree that the potential candidate who sells the most memberships may not be the best person to be the nominee. i always have met the candidate. One think I dislike a lot is parachute politicians.

Viva La Vida What is the meaning behind the Viva la Vida song?
It symbolizes someone who just like a king can have everything in one moment and nothing in another. The song is a lesson to acknowledge that nothing is forever and that we should learn to appreciate and value what we have at the moment because it may not be there tomorrow.

Interesting. I'm not a political person, so I never knew how it all works. That explains a lot about why a certain party has this person as a candidate. I know for sure that come the next Federal election, I do not know who to vote for. I don't like any of them. :)

Not ranting. Very clear and you dumbed it down enough for me to understand it because understanding political processes are not my strength. So thanks :). Met some fantastic community leaders quietly doing the work necessary in places that need it the most. Politics needs to change to attract these good intentioned and results oriented people. One of the changes needs to be reducing the elitism attitude. Then there’s a good chance once they’re in politics the game won’t change them because that’s the other threat. It’s all about true leadership, and changing the face of politics. It’s hard to be optimistic about that happening. Most people who should run for politics don’t want anything to do with it :)

One thing is for certain: politics is the dirtiest game you can play. This was said by the former politician from Minnesota Jesse "The Body" Ventura. Sometimes, financing is everything and also name popularity plays a role. The political party is also another issue for there is some great deal of stigma such as the NDP in Ontario: Bob Rae was in power back in the 90s and it was a "never again" moment. I say if you have the heart to do politics, then do it. I say the less skeletons in the closet, the better.
Constable Arsenault, your so called ex head of your police service who ran for mayor was an absolute disgrace and was nominated for his name and financial backing got him in. I looked at this fear mongering he did as to how much it would cost to have the mayor and to me it was way too overblown! I could say something defamatory about this particular former mayoral prospect but I'll keep my comments to myself. If an ex cop was running for mayor, that would be another story for they know all the issues that need to be fixed and will go about and nominate those proposals to change.
