      Thanks 404! I agree with you, with the products that are out on the market right now, it's difficult to pick a wrong choice unless you're dishing out an ungodly amount for something like TopCoat F11. In the consumer world: Meguiar's, Turtle Wax, Griot's, Mothers CMX, I think these are all very capable especially if you're running regular maintenance.

      @@ReaperKezia I've enjoyed using Chemical Guys' glaze and paste wax combos for years. I'm a fan of Black Light, EZ Creme, and Glossworkz Glaze, and you combine one of those with Pete's 53 and you have a solid combo fun for spring and summer periods. Their discontinued Classic Paste Wax is one of my favorite waxes. I think V7 and their detailing sprays like Synthetic Quick Detailer, Speed Wipe are solid. Good soaps too, Mr. Pink and Honeydew both smell fantastic.
      Chemical Guys is not going to win any durability battles though. Decent if you're always up on maintenance, but not built to withstand any area with some serious winter weather.

    This is an excellent example of just how many variables there are when comparing paint protection products. Old, oxidized and sun soaked paint simply will not accept or retain most paint protection products even AFTER paint correction.

    • @jamest7485
      @jamest7485 4 года назад +2

      I'm inclined to agree, but in all honesty I've brought some pretty oxidized, sun soaked paint, back from the dead. I'm talking little to no clear coat left.

      @@jamest7485 You can certainly restore the looks, but in my experience it sometimes will behave differently when it comes to wax and sealants. It’s especially true for newer products in my experience, where as old school waxes tend to do a little better.

    • @WaxMode
      @WaxMode  4 года назад +2

      Good to see you in here again Markus! Absolutely, putting these products on a much newer and healthier paint could have a drastic difference in lasting performance, which is one of the reasons why even the popular pure durability tests might only be relevant to the individual performing the test. The compounding and polishing can correct the oxidation and look like you're getting near perfect correction, but when done on top of paint that has already shifted into the process of full failure, the protectants will not respond as well in these areas and will fail prematurely. The other Honda test car with CarPro Lite is a better example of this for the viewers, I'll have to do an update video for this section.

    As always, nice job on this video. Your analysis and explanations are great. Love the comparison to a non-protected area. It might be helpful to split each section by doing a topper so we can see how each product holds up compared not only to the other but to itself with a little maintenance. Also, maybe I have to listen again but--maybe intentionally?-- you do not conclude on product over the other for your preference. Thanks again for doing these videos.

Really like how it looks and feels. 2 durable products together! I tried it with Seal N Shine on bottom and didn’t like it as much. Either way, I keep refreshing my car with something. I like to keep a fresh coat of something on. No matter what the bottom coat product is. Nice to know these products last long even though they may not have fresh beading. Do you have a favorite combo yet?

      Glad you enjoyed it Robert, appreciate your feedback as well! Good to hear that the Griot's Ceramic 3-in-1 Wax works well underneath of the new Seal N Shine for you! I think the star of the consumer lineup is the Griot's Ceramic 3-in-1 Wax, it has undoubtedly performed the best in my durability tests so far.
      I'm still not sure if I can narrow down my favorite combo's. In the consumer world I think our options right now are really good across the board with Meguiar's, Turtle Wax, Griot's, even Mothers CMX can satisfy me with regular maintenance usage. I would be interested in seeing just how well these could hold up in the colder northern winters, I haven't seen much feedback on that.
      I still want to see someone bring a true Polish Angel High Gloss/Cosmic Spritz/Rapidwaxx equivalent to the market at a much less expensive pricepoint. Those three still top my list of favorite toppers to work with and all three of them are pretty similar to one another.

    Say you fully prep and coat sns. You wash every 2 weeks consistently and every wash you top with ice spray wax... How would you ever know the ice spray wax is no longer cutting it and you should spray SnS and then go back to ice spray wax as a topper?
    Would it be better or worse to apply sns, top it with ice spray wax, and re apply sns every 6 months even if it's not necessary, just to be safe?
    My bottom line question I guess is if you fully prep a car and coat it with seal n shine, what do you do with the rest of the bottle if all you need is a topper and not clogging with another sns application in the short term.
    Hope this makes sense.

    • @muckeyn
      @muckeyn 4 года назад

      You should be able to tell if the spray wax or SnS isn’t performing the same as it initially was (hydrophobics, dirt repellency, slickness, etc...). If it’s performing well I’d just keep the same routine.
      The simplest way to do another coat of SnS is to use a panel prep product to strip off the wax. It would probably take off the old SnS if it’s been 6 months. I would just make sure not to put SnS over the wax or anything other than itself or clean paint.

      Great question LeoC, and it's a long answer so bear with me. The short answer is I wouldn't have any problem swapping back and forth between Seal N Shine and Ice Spray Wax. Get Seal N Shine down as your base protectant, you can use Ice Spray Wax as your main topper after your washes, and I would prefer to reapply an application of Seal N Shine after about 2-3 months or so. You could technically use Seal N Shine after every wash but it's just a little heavy for that and I wouldn't prefer to do that as it can clearly hold up for months on its own.
      The long answer, is outside of the testing realm my overall paint maintenance schedule is not usually governed by the performance of the base layer protection, it's governed by how often I feel the need to decontaminate the paint and polish it.
      Even with regular uses of Seal N Shine and Ice Spray Wax, bonded contamination will eventually find itself into the paint over time that requires claying to remedy. Whether it's brake dust, industrial fallout, or in my case hundreds of stubborn tree sap spots, it's going to find its way into the paint that doesn't come out during regular washes and begins to breakdown protection and stick into the clearcoat until it's clayed out. The protection should still slow the extent of the contamination really building up compared to unprotected paint, but it still gets through to some degree.
      On top of that, I'm not as careful enough to 100% prevent lighter wash-induced marring from popping up during the wash process, so if the paint doesn't really require decontamination, I'll usually still want to perform a lighter/mild polish to remove that marring over time. I start checking for this contamination or marring around 6 months since the last decon and polish and take the proper steps from there.
      I could decide at 6 months to not require the need to do any decon or polishing, in which case I could just continue maintaining with either Seal N Shine or Ice Spray Wax. I think switching back and forth between both of these is a good idea and should be beneficial for the best performance. 2-3 months could go by, I'm thinking about reapplying the stronger spray protectant, and not really worrying about the base hindering the performance of the topper. Once the base protectant is on the paint, I can be a mad scientist as far as maintenance goes over the month so long as the protectants are compatible and non-abrasive to one another.
      The guys up north in the cold areas usually have a more strict schedule. You decon/polish/protect before the cold season, and think about decon/polish/protecting after the cold season. Run maintenance as best you can in between. Otherwise I think it would be difficult to pinpoint through water behavior alone with regular maintenance applications of Ice Spray Wax to know for sure just how well Seal N Shine is doing underneath of it, because Ice Spray Wax is quite durable and hydrophobic by itself.

      Nothing lasts forever.

    • @WaxMode
      @WaxMode  4 года назад +3

      Hank is correct, here in the Florida the upper areas on the paint feel the bulk of the intense constant heat and UV bombardment, this will accelerate paint weathering and clearcoat failure in these areas. So all of the horizontal panels (roof, trunk, hood), will fail first, then the top sections of the vertical panels, and the failure will work its way down from there.
      During this specific test before compounding and polishing, these upper vertical areas were the most oxidized and already undergoing full paint failure. They cleaned up really well during the compounding stage but once the failure has begun to really start, there is no stopping it, so usually the protectants will suffer from being applied on those sections that are marginally weaker compared to the more healthy paint below them.
      Also, the protectants feel the bulk of the heat and UV bombardment at the same time compared to the middle/lower sections. So it's a compounded problem by applying protectants to weaker/less healthy paint, and on an area that faces tougher weathering at the same time in this environment.

    Good video, from here on out I’m gonna start spraying Moonlight , CarPro lite as my base because most of these sprays aren’t lasting past 60 days. After topping with PolySeal or any of the sprays you’ve reviewed I’ll probably get much better durability than using these sprays. But good video either way love your vids.

      @@jamest7485 I haven’t seen a six month review of any of the Turtle wax sprays including Seal & Shine and I actually used that a lot last year but needs two coats of the original to achieve 8 weeks. But yeah I get it , really inexpensive for the performance but moonlight will probably last longer, same with CarPro lite maybe moonlight wouldn’t and would need a topper at 4 months but it looks better longer. Definitely not as chemical resistant but not by much and the price is a lot better( Turtle Wax) but on a single application or even maybe two you’ll see CarPro lite and moonlight stay on the panel a really long time looking good. The Fillers still standing tall and the shine and gloss hasn’t diminished much after 90 days. I’m not sure we can say that about the Turtle Wax offerings. In fact on some of the cars I used the seal and shine beaded ok after 35-40 days but the shine wasn’t there. Unlike Moonlight and the CarPro lite which I had on the hood and still beaded and still mad shiny after 90 days & on the roof of the car. That’s just me tho. Maybe other folks had different results but I’ll try and hunt down a 60 day review of seal and shine as well.

      @@AmirAbdullah I still think Moonlight and definitely CanCoat and CarPro Lite are a leap above the performance of what you can get with products like Seal N Shine in the wild. I haven't tested Moonlight yet, but CanCoat and CQ Lite just deliver on maintaining their stronger hydrophobic nature over time and don't diminish at the same rates. I still feel I have to respect CanCoat much more with its application, it's not a quick spray protectant to work with, it needs to be properly wiped down thoroughly as you would a coating. Whereas Seal N Shine you can overapply it and get streaking but no high spots as you would with CanCoat and CQ Lite and likely Moonlight. I feel this Seal N Shine has been able to maintain good gloss on this rear quarter panel section over the months, the paint still looks great to me.

Again another way to get more out of my work the acrylics from Xtreme, And I know it’s not apples to apple but it seems so much more rewarding after 90 days and my bucket Kia is still looking really good with a coat of PolySeal on either the Acrylics or the lite coatings. That’s just me tho. I’m getting older I don’t wanna be reapplying a product every 45 days or so. I’d like to see these sealants go 60 days but a good looking 60 days maybe even 75 days looking outstanding on one application. I get that from the lite coatings. You and your assertion is 100% correct. CanCiat is a dam good product. I just feel like I’m moving away from sprays like turtle wax as my base. I feel like the above mentioned products are a better deal for durability of the top coat. I did see where you had mentioned that the top coats perform so much better with other base layers. In those examples you used some ceramics and the top coat of your choice and then you were seeing those 90 day durability claims but looking better along the way. That to me is a twice a year application of the base layer and then the top coats. In my case now I have the CQ lite and the RX Coating performing outstanding on a black test panel. Application after the prep wasn’t to bad but if I’m gonna get a year of really freshly looking applied material after rains and whatnot that’s so much more for me. I know a lot of folks enjoy washing the car and using the sprays it’s very therapeutic for a lot of folks. Even myself but this here for me is the way. Also interesting to note is I don’t lose clients to longer lasting coatings. Just a side note. Yeah you’re 100% right different products 100% of the way.

    Hey buddy, what are your thoughts on using Turtle Wax Seal and Shine on rims? I was thinking about using this on my 370Z's rims as a spray sealant. I reached out to Turtle Wax to see if that was even worth it or would Seal and Shine just flash off quickly under high heat scenario such as rims heated up by hot brakes? What do you think? A viable option as a rim sealant? What about reapplication of this product? Could I just reapply over itself every time I washed the rims? I wasn't sure what you thought of reapplication of Seal and Shine over itself after every wash as a topper? I know you mention using Turtle Wax Ice Spray Wax as they topper for this, but what about just using this stuff again, over the top of itself?

    • @WaxMode
      @WaxMode  4 года назад +2

      Hey Joe! I'm still hooked on the spray and rinse style protectants for the wheels. This is where 303's Touchless Sealant really "shines", because unlike Meguiar's Hybrid Ceramic Wax that can be hit or miss when used as a straight spray and rinse protectant in some instances, the 303 has no trouble reacting positively and providing that awesome hydrophobic protection immediately on the first spray and rinse. So 303 Touchless Sealant, Gyeon Wet Coat, or CarPro Hydro2 are still my go to products for wheel maintenance.
      I actually haven't tested Seal N Shine out on the wheels, I remember someone saying they got good results when using it as a spray and rinse so I'll have to check this out. I think it should be able to hold up to the heat, and likely better if you're always running a wheel specific cleaner to be able to hold up better to that by being more chemically resistant.
      For maintenance, I could see myself swapping back and forth between both Seal N Shine and Ice Spray Wax, and then back to Seal N Shine every once in a while. If you've found that Seal N Shine works really well for you on your paint without streaking, I wouldn't see any problem using it very regularly as its own maintenance topper and skipping Ice Spray Wax. Ice Spray Wax I find it can still be a bit heavy, but generally easier to work with compared to Seal N Shine and I can be less worried about chasing down the paint with a damp microfiber towel after I use it. Ice Spray Wax is also nicely durable by itself, so I find it fun to work with and a perfect compliment to the heavier Seal N Shine.

      I would say yes, Seal N Shine is something I would want to reapply within 4-6 months if you are maintaining with the spray wax, or 2-4 months if you’re just using Seal N Shine by itself. You can apply right on top.
      For me, since I have a paint polisher my prep changes. I look at the paint after maintaining the base protectant for six months and check for embedded contamination, and if the paint has light swirling or marring that I want to clean up after claying. If so I will polish it out, reapply the main protectant like Seal N Shine, and then recheck for embedded contamination and swirling at 6 months again.

    Oh man, how sad is to see paint failure next to the gas door on that BMW causing corrosion.

      Yeah it's definitely a shame because other than the exterior of this car, it's a fantastic driver. There's a massive amount of rust that has popped up during the rainy seasons, originally this car was from up north which just accumulated too much rust from the salt dumped on the roads during the winters. Previous owner brought it down south to Tampa when he moved here and was selling it for practically nothing and I couldn't pass it up.

      @@WaxMode Since the rust doesn't seem to have a hole it would be worth the effort to correct it so you can enjoy it a bit longer and flip it later.

    Dent guys who come to dealerships could fix those dents. It's normally $40 a panel.
