  • The Pittsburgh Steelers could make a big draft day trade this year. Chris Carter and Mike DeFabo explore options to trade for a veteran like Brandon Aiyuk, or move up and get a top tier receiver like Rome Odunze. But what would be the better option? And what would be the cost for either move?
    Also, Chris and Mike discuss a recent article from Mike about the wide receiver class and how different fits for the Steelers could work in different rounds. Could Malachi Corley, Xavier Leggette or Luke McCaffrey be legitimate options?
    Finally, it's Mock Draft Monday, and Chris picks a winner that made a big move.

    I don’t understand how with this current wr core guys seem to think getting a wr in the 3rd and getting another in like the 6th is enough if Pickens goes down like u said we would be fcked. And even if it’s a first round wr these are still rookies we can’t be relying on them to just come save the day if we have a chance to go get a proven star wr to go with pickens do it we can’t always go the cheap route and expect big win results

  • @jrsharbaugh8863
    @jrsharbaugh8863 Месяц назад +2

    The Steelers made it clear that they want to win now. If you think getting a WR outside of the first Rd. will equate to the success Brandon Aiyuk brings you are sorely mistaken.
    If you use a first-round pick on a WR you then lose your chance to add a day 1 starter to the O line. With 1 legitimate receiver who hasn't shown he can run the whole route tree teams will have zero issues cracking the box to stop the run. Neither QB on the roster has shown at this stage in their careers that they can carry a team without the proper pieces around them.
    So if you can get Aiyuk without having to give up a first-rounder you do it in a heartbeat. Draft a center or tackle in the first and go from there.

    Okay hear me out on this take.. I really think if we’re going to go out and make a big move for a WR that’s going to be in the top 5 in $ and also going to cost us some draft pick or picks why not go out and try to see what it would take to get DK.. it makes to much sense. First of all the connection between him and Russ would be a very big plus and how well would he fit into Smiths game plan. DK doesn’t just block he blocks like he loves it. If he can just work on keeping his cool it would be a match made in heaven, a absolutely perfect fit

    i think itd be a mistake to try and get aiyuk, but i dont know. youre giving up one to two players who are gonna be on cheap rookie deals, paying top 10 money for a guy who hanst proven to be that yet (not that i dont love aiyuk as a player, he just hasnt), and almost 100 percent giving up george pickens for the future. including the fact that this upcoming reciever class is probably the best class of all time, theres like 20 guys who have a shot at becoming real nfl starters. i dont see it, unless you get a ridiculously good deal, which i dont see why you would.

    I'm going to be a little bit happy if he gets to be a Steeler for only picks from next years draft. But only a second round pick and a 6th round pick. And the niners are gonna pay half of his salary this year. And then they get him for no more than 20 million a year. And have the contract done with the ability to get out of it after two years. Hopefully We can sign Pickens up next year before he has a chance to be considered elite. It's not a secret to me that the Steelers don't want good receivers anymore when they become DIVAS. WE CAN REPLACE THEM WITH YOUNGER MUCH CHEAPER ONES MOST OF THE TIME.

    It's a tradeoff either way. At least with Aiyuk you know you're getting a good WR who can play at the NFL level. Yeah, you'll pay more, but he's proven.
    With a rookie, you'll pay less money, but there's no guarantee that he'll play as well in the NFL as he did in college. How many times have you heard it's a deep receiver class, but how many of them actually pan out to be a #1 or #2 WR in the NFL, which is what we need.
    I'm fine with doing either, but there are always tradeoffs. Just because you draft a receiver high doesn't mean he'll pan out, it's a gamble, but you'll pay less. Aiyuk is proven, but will cost more. Just depends on what's more important to you... spending less money, or a proven player.
    The deciding factor for me on Aiyuk would be how much draft capital does it take to get him. Omar Khan is great at restructuring contracts to free up cap space, so I think he can make the financial part work. The question is, what would it take to get Aiyuk from the Niners?
    If it's a 2nd round pick like you mentioned, I'd take that deal. If it's a 1st round pick, then maybe not.
    If we do get Aiyuk for a 2nd round pick, I think I would try to trade back in the 1st round and gain a pick or two. Unless someone you just have to have falls to you at 20.

      Have you also looked into and understand Arthur Smiths offense? It is not a wide open passing system designed to feed and satisfy multiple big name wr's.
