  • After cycling to every place in Leicestershire and Rutland in 2021, I started a challenge to cycle to every place in Warwickshire. I have just reached 50% of places ridden to, so I thought I'd share my progress so far.

Interesting to see some of the villages, roads and lanes I cycle on east of Coventry

Fantastic! I also like that you started with Willey and ended with Haseley Knob

I've been riding from Tamworth (the town is in Staffordshire, but I'm on the Warks side) into Leicestershire and Derbyshire for somewhere that feels like far and for roads I don't already know well, so a lot of these places I've been through recently! No Man's Heath has a pub in it called "The Four Counties", where four counties meet inside the building. I'd recommend Ratcliffe Culey, Sheepy Magna and other little places between Atherstone & Twycross, and the lanes between Atherstone & Coleshill. Lots of sweet little villages out there!

@@shroom2ma Wow, I didn’t know that about the pub (that is so cool). Yes, I’ve been through places like Ratcliffe Culey and Sheepy Magna on the way to Warwickshire. The rides I do with the cycling club often go on the lanes around there to a cafe stop in Twycross.

Great video. Maybe next year you come and 🚴🏻 in Ireland. It’s amazing, with a few greenways only for bikes like Waterford Greenway or Limerick Greenway.

@@ieuanstroud5542 I’ve been enjoying it so far, but the new places that I haven’t ridden to yet are getting further away, so I’ll probably wait until next year to make more progress.

@@zedddddful Thanks, it’s a great way of exploring (although it will mainly be long rides now, because I’ve ridden to all of the ‘local’ places).

What a great idea and a great way to visit new areas. I take it you will have planned these routes using ordnance survey maps?

@@MrAnon-2024 Thanks - when I cycled to every place in Leicestershire (where I live), it surprised me how many places I hadn’t even heard of. I’ve planned them using Google Maps to find the boundary (with a Wikipedia list of places in Warwickshire to check against) and Garmin Connect to plot the routes.

@@rebeccalaurel1471 ah, right. That sounds like a better way of planning the routes. Have you heard of Veloviewer? Basically, it’s a division of the world into a grid of squares that you ‘collect’ as you ride through them. I’ve rode to areas that I would never have done if I hadn’t been looking to collect a specific tile 😉
