I did the front brakes and rotors on my 99 CRV with only minor mechanical knowledge using a YT video, but I might have to take to a shop for the rears lol
I'm no expert on making YT tutorials and I'm sure you meant well by having an assistant, but next time use a tripod and do the work by yourself. Some of the finer points of the break job got lost probably because you had to pay attention to another set of hands. Still, your effort and the video is totally appreciated by most of us '96-'98 Honda CR-V owners. Cheers brother
I've been doing Drum Brakes for 40 years. Unless you live in a no snow State, the Drums will never slide off as shown. Get grade 5 8mm bolts to drive the drum off. That's the purpose of the 2 threaded holes in the drum. Although Honda reduced how many Springs are used to hold the Shoes, you cannot use any of the Brake tools that have worked in the past. The single, large top Spring is a very toughy. Even with the Adjuster turned all the way in, and brake shoes and e-brake set correctly in the Adjuster Fork, it is tough tough tough. No reason that springs needs to be that stiff. Because of the small brake shoes, all the hardware hides behind the axle hub. Even basic hand tools have limited room. For many years I wondered why they just don't use a simple Snap Ring for that e-brake clip.
Huge kudos for showing the vise grip method of blocking the shoe! The adjuster spring is the worst! I like the idea of opening the adjuster a little to help keep the adjuster in place while pulling spring. Perhaps taking a little more time would have helped and lubing the contact points. All good.
Hey man, I have a Honda CR-V 1998, I want to know everything about this car, ( is my first car) I want to know how to change it’s tires how to fix little things like for example if the window doesn’t go down what can I do, you know? Please help me. There is not a lot of videos about Honda CR-V 1998 and I know your car is 1997 but I mean it’s close.. I’m sorry if I’m wrong I don’t know much about cars but I really want to learn! Please upload every fix that you are doing to your car it would help me a lot! 😊 have a nice day!!!
I know this is almost a year late but any videos on the 97-01 crv will be perfect for you as they are the same model so any videos you find for those will work for you. If you still have the car of course
You mentioned safety in torquing down the lug nuts, how safe do you think it is to stick your feet under a 2 ton vehicle sitting on nothing but a hydraulic jack? I NEVER get under a vehicle without at least 2 methods of holding up the car. I never use just a hydraulic jack for the main support. Your legs are too valuable to be amputated..FWIW to you...the video otherwise is very helpful..
You don't need to use that vise grip to stop the shoe from expanding. The slave cylinder doesn't have enough pressure to pop the piston out...as I've never experienced that happning in over 50 yrs😂 It might if someone got in the car and accidently pressed the brake pedal...but what are chances of that?🙄
Your assistant mechanic did nothing good undoing all the clips and his hands all shaky... good quality vid though, but not as detailed as the other vids I saw.. 2 out of 100
2 out of 100 is a little bit ridiculous... It is overall a decent video. Also a good idea to wire brush the 3 spots that the brake shoe contacts and add some lubricant to keep things quiet. Nice Job.
This is the 3rd video I have watched on changing the brake shoes and I am now definitely paying my mechanic to do it,
lmao i watched 5 and contemplating

Working on getting better, hopefully I added value.
Thanks man, i needed a refresher on replacing shoes. The terminology needs improvement but i knew what u were doing.
lol everything’s an axle
Your really good at doing drum brakes. Good video quality but it would have really helped me if you would have slowed down a little.
there’s a thing called the pause button
Great details. Thanks. I really appreciate your video
Good video brotha

Too fast, I advise you to take a picture of the assembly before you dismantle it, and then dismantle the brake.
Great video!!
You didn't show any of the moves you explained..
This was basically a slide show with a voice over.
usually love Honda but that dang coil-over spring design kicked my butt!
Very informative. One thing you forgot to mention. You might have to adjust the the old shoes in, in order to get the drum off.
No grease where the shoes touch the backing plate? You should wire wheel the hub center too.

Glad I could help.
trimakasih tutorialnya..
Semoga sehat dan berkah
@0:38 good grief, it must be so nice to not be in the rust belt
For real
He said the drum should slide right off.. Ya fuckin right.
im stuck with this right now on a 97 crv, any tips on getting it off?
My drum isn’t coming off do you know the bolt size on the drum to get it off

What year is the Honda
Hey guys,question..the spring is supposed to be attached to the farest holes to the top or the closest holes to hold the spring???
Just put it back like It was when u take it off.
@@miguelortiz9171 thanks for the reply..i got it done👍
Would be great if you have a better quality and slowly show as i have no idea what exactly you do step by step
The most important part, which way to turn the star adjuster, you skipped.
You can obviously see it when you turn it.
First things first, jack stands.
Can you please help me find one brake pad for me since I'm from India and very difficult to get one
Banana skins work perfectly.

I agree. And top it off, he has his foot resting right on the jack.

Id rather know how up adjust the rear brakes with the stupid off set adjuster
I just replaced my shoe abd my drums wouldnt fit
Easier way of doing this brake job. Install all the hardware then all u have to do is install the clips.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm working on improving the quality.

Phemando, the guy did all the work. What are you talking about.

Way too fast and not specific about details
Everything you did you didn't even show so it's bs
There worst video 😂
