- Enjoy these vintage home videos of System of a Down at the Record Plant with me and Rick Rubin. An don't miss the "car listen" in Rick's Bentley and the Army Man compressor (a big part of the sound of Daron's guitar). This video reveals how the "Army Man" got its name. #systemofadown #ricksbentley #carlisten #recordplant #sugar #darts #rickrubin

Came here after reading this part in Serj's book. Wow he was so different back then, and really high too
Please keep uploading System of a Down footage, this is too cool
Never realized how crazy serj was back then lol
Now we've got Rudy Ayoub.
Absolutely love the silliness and goofing around by Serj. Sad to know they'll likely never make new music again. got into them from this album.
Sylvia helped produce System and Tools first albums. Absolutely raw power in what she helps bring out of these guys.
0:41 So that's how "Spiders" was mixed? They made a plastic spider work for them?
😂😂😂
My god it is pure gold ! Do you have more recordings from that session ? Will we ever see them ? haha
Favorite part of the video is hearing you laughing behind the camera, having a good time! What memories these are, bet your glad you got them on tape!!!
What an awesome snapshot of record making history, I love how candid and normal it is too - a few years done now but i was doing sound production at college where i properly got to learn about Sylvias badass approach to making records and this would have been such a cool resource on our group projects! Regardless, as a SOAD, Rubin and Massy fan and audio dweeb: this is a great gem to have :)
There is a channel called Victims of a down and they might be interested in any Archive footage, that would be a awesome collaboration he's got stuff and I thought I've seen it all, awesome upload as always Sylvia! Don't let Serg hang upside down for vocal tracks now 🤘😵💫😅
Welcome to the soldier side… haha love this
Thanks for all the entertainment and education you've provided over the years. Most of all thanks for all the amazing work you've done! A true legend. Much love Sylvia
Absolutely awesome. So many of us grew up on this album. Thanks for sharing, Silvia.
I was a jr engineer in '97-98 when I got to go to The Record Plant. That console!
This is a section of this footage I haven't seen before, but I know there's alot more. Serj and his psychedelic tent, John recieving flak for reading the same book repeatedly, Daron playing an ironic "She's only 17"... me and a friend used to sit and count the bongs. I wish I knew where this footage was from and that is was complete.
Its in a video called "system of a down- self-titled making of and behind the scenes (1998)" on a channel called "Francisco Cavalcanti." Hope this helps!
There it is! God its fun to watch this back. Thanks @@fredDurstforpresident !
Never knew they did the car test back in the 90s either , so cool and new information about SOAD
They had cars and cds and cd players and tapes and tapes players back in the 90s, you know?
Thank you for this!
Thanks for uploading this pure gold❤️🔥🤘🤘
Thank you for uploading this piece of gold for us
This is great!!!
Thank you for sharing this video❤️❤️
Sooo cool, I’m a huge System fan. Thank you!
love this videos 🙌🙌 love u Massy!
This is gold! Thank you Sylvia!
Wow awesome footage!
I love your approach to everything! This footage is bringing me back to how I felt reading your book :)
OMG!! I LOVE IT!
Thanks so much for uploading Mrs. Massy, so cool to these little bits of previously unknown history :)
Thank you for uploading this heartwarming footage of the creation of the best album of all time! 💖
Please upload more if you have it. This is gold \m/
Awesome, good ol times! ☺️👍
Thank you
And so it was a productive day. That can’t have cost much. The studio charges per hour, right? And I’m sure the stereo in a Bentley is like my ‘73 Pinto😊 Looks like fun for the whole family. No smoking in the control room!❤
Hi Sylvia! So nice to see you again 😀. Thank you so much for your wonderful video 📹. Super well presented. I hope all is well with you ❤. Mark Bensette Aux Bois 🇨🇦.
@Arcadia Not the producer for self-titled, I think you are referring to Sylvia Syms, condolences to her BTW.
Great video.
Thank you for Posting Sylvia! -Brian Melting Little Army Men would help with the heavy album sessions. *Takes Notes* 🙂
funny. this studio is up in weed, ca. used to drive by it all the time in college. heh.
wait hang on is this the same one as the other one? idk now...but i know for a couple of their albums it was the one in weed, ca.
@@andrewdouglas906 this world is too small!!! i used to live up there and i had no idea 🤯
I'm pretty sure it was done in LA?
Hi Silvia this is gold... please upload all the mixing room footage of SOAD...begging you - and thank you
wow cool!
We need more SOAD footage 🤘🤘
Still my favorite soad album.
Very cool - ty so much!
That classic look the house engineer gives you when you say you need to patch in “just one more thing.” 😂😂
This is one of my fav parts right here - 4:20
Good god i have no idea what some of that gear is. Lots of custom looking compressors. What an amazing playbox of sound that studio is
❤🔥
way cool
That snake pit of doom just seems so appropriate for System of Down
they are so high lol
Fuck yeah thanks Sylvia!
God damn
💝YES
wow magnificent footage! history in the making! but could you please upload it in its original 4:3 format? 16:9 looks wrong, too zoomed in
Wayy kool
You are so cool
Sylvia this is sick
The plastic soldier melting along to the beat 😂
I am so out of patch cords. I unhooked the Brotary so that I could hook up my TWO Dynacord cls 222s that I just randomly scored.
I plan to just get the speakers dancing, and then play along and see what happens.
Sadly not yet funded for the 240 Volts here in Talent, you got any there in Ashland? 🤔
Yeah, I mean this is a video... it exist...
That sounded like Obituary in the background
those look like the same figures in serj's music video "the unthinking majority" from his solo album elect the dead
Obituary!
they’re so silly
R'n'R 🤘
If it helps: I thought this was made today.
Love the alternate listening venue. Btw, Henry Rollins blames Rubin’s RR for inadvertently causing the robbery that killed his friend, Joe.
Henry is a LIAR, LIAR, LLIIIAAAARRRRR. 🤣 he doth projects too much
What's Rubin's "RR"? I'm trying to deduce what it stands for but I can't figure it out
Edit: oh is it Rolls Royce?
@@neilkristjansson8477 Yes. “he also speculated that the reason they were targeted may have been because, days prior to the incident, record producer Rick Rubin had requested to hear the newly recorded album The End of Silence and parked his Rolls-Royce outside their house while carrying a cell phone. Because of the notoriety of the neighborhood, Rollins suspected that this would bring trouble because of the implication that there was money in the home. He even wrote in his journal the night of Rubin's visit that his home "is going to get popped".”
a Bentley!?
2:30 context? 😂
what was serj on in this video😭
The ground
I want my comment to show the utmost "respect", so I want to ask....
What happened to the rest of the footage Sylvia? This original video was like 15 minutes long.
Hey
2:32 song?
Can't remember which song but it's definitely one of the songs from either of the two Obituary albums "Cause of Death" or "The End Complete"
@@wilaim8549 thank you!
